1 Samuel 21:1-8
1Then DavidH1732 cameH935 to 1NobH5011, to AhimelechH288 the priestH3548; and AhimelechH288 2cameH2729 tremblingH2729 to meetH7122 DavidH1732 and saidH559 to him, “WhyH4069 are you aloneH905, and noH369 oneH376 with you?” 2DavidH1732 saidH559 to AhimelechH288 the priestH3548, “The kingH4428 has commissionedH6680 me with a matterH1697 and has saidH559 to me, ‘3NoH408 oneH376 is to knowH3045 anythingH3972 about the matterH1697 on whichH834 I am sendingH7971 you and with whichH834 I have commissionedH6680 you; and I have directedH3045 the youngH5288 menH5288 to a certainH492H6423 placeH4725.’ 3NowH6258 then, whatH4100 4do you haveH3426 on handH3027? GiveH5414 5me fiveH2568 loaves of breadH3899, orH176 whatever can be foundH4672.” 4The priestH3548 answeredH6030 DavidH1732 and saidH559, “ThereH369 isH369 noH369 ordinaryH2455 breadH3899 6on handH3027, but thereH3426 isH3426 7consecratedH6944 breadH3899, ifH518 onlyH389 the youngH5288 menH5288 have 8keptH8104 themselves from womenH802.” 5DavidH1732 answeredH6030 the priestH3548 and saidH559 to him, “9BeH3588H518 assuredH3588H518, womenH802 have been deniedH6113 to us as previouslyH8543H8032 when I leftH3318 and the 1011bodiesH3627 of the youngH5288 menH5288 were consecratedH6944, though it was an ordinaryH2455 journeyH1870; howH637 muchH637H3588 moreH637H3588 then will 12their bodiesH3627 be consecratedH6942 todayH3117?” 6So 13the priestH3548 gaveH5414 him consecratedH6944 bread; for there was noH3808 breadH3899 thereH8033 exceptH3588H518 the 14breadH3899 of the PresenceH6440 which was removedH5493 from its place beforeH6440 the LordH3068, in order to putH7760 hotH2527 breadH3899 in its place on the dayH3117 it was takenH3947 away.
7Now oneH376 of the servantsH5650 of SaulH7586 was thereH8033 that dayH3117, detainedH6113 beforeH6440 the LordH3068; and his nameH8034 was 15DoegH1673 the EdomiteH130, the 16chiefH47 of Saul’sH7586 shepherdsH7462.
8DavidH1732 saidH559 to AhimelechH288, “Now isH3426 thereH3426 noH371 spearH2595 orH176 swordH2719 17on handH3027? For I broughtH3947 neitherH1571H3808 my swordH2719 norH1571 my weaponsH3627 18with me, becauseH3588 the king’sH4428 matterH1697 was urgentH5169.”
