13AndJoabוְיוֹאָ֨בve.yo.'AvH3097the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Zeruiahצְרוּיָ֜הtze.ru.YahH6870and the servantsוְעַבְדֵ֤יve.'av.DeiH5650of Davidדָוִד֙da.VidH1732wentH3318outH3318and metוַֽיִּפְגְּשׁ֛וּםvai.yif.ge.ShumH6298them by the poolבְּרֵכַ֥תbe.re.KhatH1295of Gibeonגִּבְע֖וֹןgiv.'onH1391;and they satH3427downוַיֵּ֨שְׁב֜וּvai.Ye.she.VuH3427, Abner’s menon the oneH2088sideH2088of the poolהַבְּרֵכָה֙ha.be.re.KhahH1295andJoab’s men on the otherH2088sideH2088of the poolהַבְּרֵכָ֖הha.be.re.KhahH1295.

14Then Abnerאַבְנֵר֙'av.NerH74saidוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Joabיוֹאָ֔בyo.'AvH3097, “Nowנָא֙na'H4994have the youngהַנְּעָרִ֔יםha.ne.'a.RimH5288menH5288ariseיָק֤וּמוּya.Ku.muH6965andholdH7832aH7832martialH7832skillsH7832matchH7832in our presenceלְפָנֵ֑ינוּle.fa.Nei.nuH6440.”And Joabיוֹאָ֖בyo.'AvH3097saidוַיֹּ֥אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Have them ariseיָקֻֽמוּ׃ya.Ku.muH6965!”

15So they gotH6965upH6965and wentH5674overH5674by countבְמִסְפָּ֑רve.mis.ParH4557,twelveשְׁנֵ֧ים עָשָׂ֣רshe.Neim 'a.SarH8147 H6240for Benjaminלְבִנְיָמִ֗ןle.vin.ya.MinH1144and Ish-boshethH378the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Saulשָׁא֔וּלsha.'UlH7586,and twelveוּשְׁנֵ֥ים עָשָׂ֖רu.she.Neim 'a.SarH8147 H6240from the servantsמֵעַבְדֵ֥יme.'av.DeiH5650of Davidדָוִֽד׃da.VidH1732.

16And eachH376oneH376of them seizedוַֽיַּחֲזִ֜קוּvai.ya.cha.Zi.kuH2388hisopponentרֵעֵ֗הוּre.'E.huH7453by the headבְּרֹ֣אשׁbe.RoshH7218and thrusthis swordוְחַרְבּוֹ֙ve.char.BoH2719in hisopponent’sרֵעֵ֔הוּre.'E.huH7453sideבְּצַ֣דbe.TzadH6654;so they fellH5307downH5307togetherH3164.Therefore that placeלַמָּק֣וֹםla.ma.KomH4725was calledוַיִּקְרָא֙vai.yik.Ra'H7121Helkath-hazzurimH2521,whichאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834is in Gibeonבְּגִבְעֽוֹן׃be.giv.'onH1391.

17That dayבַּיּ֣וֹםbai.YomH3117the battleהַמִּלְחָמָ֛הha.mil.cha.MahH4421was veryמְאֹ֖דme.'OdH3966severeקָשָׁ֥הka.ShahH7186, andAbnerאַבְנֵר֙'av.NerH74and the menH376of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478were defeatedוַיִּנָּ֤גֶףvai.yi.Na.gefH5062by the servantsעַבְדֵ֥י'av.DeiH5650of Davidדָוִֽד׃da.VidH1732.

18Nowthe threeשְׁלֹשָׁה֙she.lo.ShahH7969sonsבְּנֵ֣יbe.NeiH1121of Zeruiahצְרוּיָ֔הtze.ru.YahH6870were thereשָׁ֗םShamH8033,Joabיוֹאָ֥בyo.'AvH3097,Abishaiוַאֲבִישַׁ֖יva.'a.vi.ShaiH52,and Asahelוַעֲשָׂהאֵ֑לva.'a.sa.h.'ElH6214;and Asahelוַעֲשָׂהאֵל֙va.'a.sa.h.'ElH6214was asswift-footedקַ֣ל בְּרַגְלָ֔יוkal be.rag.LavH7031 H7272as oneכְּאַחַ֥דke.'a.ChadH259of the gazellesהַצְּבָיִ֖םha.tze.va.YimH6643that is in the fieldבַּשָּׂדֶֽה׃ba.sa.DehH7704.

19Asahelעֲשָׂהאֵ֖ל'a.sa.h.'ElH6214pursuedוַיִּרְדֹּ֥ף אַחֲרֵ֣יvai.yir.Dof 'a.cha.ReiH7291 H310Abnerאַבְנֵ֑ר'av.NerH74and did not turnנָטָ֣הna.TahH5186to the rightהַיָּמִין֙hai.ya.MinH3225or to the leftהַשְּׂמֹ֔אולha.se.MolH8040from followingמֵאַחֲרֵ֖יme.'a.cha.ReiH310Abnerאַבְנֵֽר׃'av.NerH74.

20Then Abnerאַבְנֵר֙'av.NerH74lookedוַיִּ֤פֶןvai.Yi.fenH6437behindאַֽחֲרָ֔יו'a.cha.RavH310himself and saidוַיֹּ֕אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Is that you, Asahelעֲשָׂהאֵ֑ל'a.sa.h.'ElH6214?”And he saidוַיֹּ֖אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “It is I!”

21So Abnerאַבְנֵ֗ר'av.NerH74saidוַיֹּ֧אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to him, “Turnנְטֵ֤הne.TehH5186asideH5186for your own goodto your rightיְמִֽינְךָ֙ye.mi.ne.KhaH3225orא֣וֹ'oH176to your leftשְׂמֹאלֶ֔ךָse.mo.Le.khaH8040,and takeH270holdH270of oneאֶחָד֙'e.ChadH259of the youngמֵֽהַנְּעָרִ֔יםme.ha.ne.'a.RimH5288menH5288for yourself, and takeוְקַח־ve.kach-H3947for yourself his equipmentחֲלִצָת֑וֹcha.li.tza.ToH2488.”But Asahelעֲשָׂהאֵ֔ל'a.sa.h.'ElH6214was unwillingוְלֹֽא־ אָבָ֣הve.lo'- 'a.VahH3808 H14to turnלָס֖וּרla.SurH5493asideH5493from followingמֵאַחֲרָֽיו׃me.'a.cha.RavH310him.

22Then Abnerאַבְנֵ֗ר'av.NerH74repeatedוַיֹּ֧סֶף לֵאמֹר֙vai.Yo.sef le.MorH3254 H559againע֣וֹדodH5750to Asahelעֲשָׂהאֵ֔ל'a.sa.h.'ElH6214, “Turnס֥וּרsurH5493asideH5493for your own goodfrom followingמֵאַֽחֲרָ֑יme.'a.cha.RaiH310me. Whyלָ֤מָּהLa.mahH4100should I strikeאַכֶּ֙כָּה֙'ak.Ke.kahH5221you to the groundאַ֔רְצָה'Ar.tzahH776?Howוְאֵיךְ֙ve.'eiKhH349then could Ishowאֶשָּׂ֣א'e.Sa'H5375my faceפָנַ֔יfa.NaiH6440to your brotherאָחִֽיךָ׃'a.Chi.khaH251Joabיוֹאָ֖בyo.'AvH3097?”

23However, he refusedוַיְמָאֵ֣ןvay.ma.'EnH3985to turnלָס֗וּרla.SurH5493asideH5493;so Abnerאַבְנֵר֩'av.NerH74struckוַיַּכֵּ֣הוּvai.ya.Ke.huH5221him in the bellyהַחֹ֗מֶשׁha.Cho.meshH2570with the buttH310endH310of the spearהַחֲנִ֜יתha.cha.NitH2595,so that the spearהַֽחֲנִית֙ha.cha.NitH2595cameH3318outH3318at his backH310.And he fellוַיִּפָּל־vai.yi.pol-H5307thereשָׁ֖םshamH8033and diedוַיָּ֣מָתvai.Ya.motH4191on the spotתַּחְתָּ֑יוta.cha.tovH8478.And it happenedוַיְהִ֡יvay.HiH1961that allכָּל־kol-H3605who cameהַבָּ֣אha.Ba'H935thereafterto the placeהַמָּקוֹם֩ha.ma.kOmH4725whereאֲשֶׁר־ שָׁ֧ם'a.Sher- shamH834 H8033Asahelעֲשָׂהאֵ֛ל'a.sa.h.'ElH6214had fallenנָ֨פַלNa.falH5307and diedוַיָּמֹ֖תvai.ya.MotH4191,stoodH5975stillוַֽיַּעֲמֹֽדוּ׃Vai.ya.'a.Mo.duH5975.

24But Joabיוֹאָ֥בyo.'AvH3097and Abishaiוַאֲבִישַׁ֖יva.'a.vi.ShaiH52pursuedוַֽיִּרְדְּפ֛וּ אַחֲרֵ֣יvai.yir.de.Fu 'a.cha.ReiH7291 H310Abnerאַבְנֵ֑ר'av.NerH74,and when the sunוְהַשֶּׁ֣מֶשׁve.ha.She.meshH8121was goingבָּ֔אָהBa.'ahH935down, they cameבָּ֚אוּBa.'uH935to the hillגִּבְעַ֣תgiv.'AtH1389of Ammahאַמָּ֔ה'a.MahH522,whichאֲשֶׁר֙'a.SherH834is oppositeפְּנֵי־pe.nei-H6440Giahגִ֔יחַGi.achH1520by wayדֶּ֖רֶךְDe.rekhH1870of the wildernessמִדְבַּ֥רmid.BarH4057of Gibeonגִּבְעֽוֹן׃giv.'onH1391.
