2So Davidדָּוִ֤ידda.VidH1732saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Joabיוֹאָב֙yo.'AvH3097and to the leadersשָׂרֵ֣יsa.ReiH8269of the peopleהָעָ֔םha.'AmH5971, “Goלְכ֗וּle.KhuH1980,countסִפְרוּ֙sif.RuH5608Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478from BeershebaH884to Danדָּ֑ןDanH1835,and bringוְהָבִ֣יאוּve.ha.Vi.'uH935me wordso that I may knowוְאֵדְעָ֖הve.'e.de.'AhH3045their numberמִסְפָּרָֽם׃mis.pa.RamH4557.”

3But Joabיוֹאָ֗בyo.'AvH3097saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “May the Lordיְהוָ֨הYah.wehH3068addיוֹסֵף֩yo.SefH3254to His peopleעַמּ֤וֹ׀a.MoH5971a hundredמֵאָ֣הme.'AhH3967timesפְעָמִ֔יםfe.'a.MimH6471as many as they are! 7NowGodהָאֱלֹהִ֔יםha.'E.lo.HimH430was displeasedוַיֵּ֙רַע֙ בְּעֵינֵ֣יvai.Ye.ra' be.'ei.NeiH7489 H5869with thisהַזֶּ֑הha.ZehH2088thingהַדָּבָ֖רha.da.VarH1697,so He struckוַיַּ֖ךְvai.YakhH5221Israelיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ פYis.ra.'ElH3478.

10“Goלֵךְ֩leKhH1980and speakוְדִבַּרְתָּ֨ve.di.bar.TaH1696to Davidדָּוִ֜ידda.VidH1732,sayingלֵאמֹ֗רle.MorH559, ‘ThisH3541isH3541whatH3541the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068saysאָמַ֣ר'a.MarH559: “I extendנֹטֶ֣הno.TehH5186to you threeשָׁל֕וֹשׁsha.Lo.oshH7969choices;chooseבְּחַר־be.char-H977for yourself oneאַחַ֥ת'a.ChatH259of them, which I will doוְאֶֽעֱשֶׂה־ve.'e.'e.seh-H6213to you.”’”

11So Gadגָ֖דgadH1410cameוַיָּ֥בֹאvai.Ya.vo'H935to Davidדָּוִ֑ידda.VidH1732and saidוַיֹּ֥אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to him, “ThisH3541isH3541whatH3541the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068saysאָמַ֥ר'a.MarH559: ‘Takeקַבֶּל־ka.bel-H6901for yourself

13Davidדָּוִ֛ידda.VidH1732saidוַיֹּ֧אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Gadגָּ֖דgadH1410, “I amH6887inH6887greatמְאֹ֑דme.'OdH3966distressH6887;pleaseנָּ֣אna'H4994let me fallאֶפְּלָה־'e.pe.lah-H5307into the handבְיַד־ve.yad-H3027of the Lordיְהוָ֗הYah.wehH3068,for His merciesרַחֲמָיו֙ra.cha.MavH7356are veryמְאֹ֔דme.'OdH3966greatרַבִּ֤יםra.BimH7227.But do not let me fallאֶפֹּֽל׃'e.PolH5307into humanאָדָ֖ם'a.DamH120handsוּבְיַד־u.ve.yad-H3027.”

14So the Lordיְהוָ֛הYah.wehH3068sentוַיִּתֵּ֧ןvai.yi.TenH5414a plagueדֶּ֖בֶרDe.verH1698on Israelבְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לbe.Yis.ra.'ElH3478;seventyשִׁבְעִ֥יםshiv.'ImH7657thousandאֶ֖לֶף'E.lefH505menאִֽישׁ׃'IshH376of Israelמִיִּשְׂרָאֵ֔לmi.Yis.ra.'ElH3478fellוַיִּפֹּל֙vai.yi.PolH5307.

15And Godהָאֱלֹהִ֨ים׀ha.'E.lo.HimH430sentוַיִּשְׁלַח֩vai.yish.LachH7971an angelמַלְאָ֥ךְ׀mal.'AkhH4397to Jerusalemלִֽירוּשָׁלִַם֮li.ru.sha.LimH3389to destroyלְהַשְׁחִיתָהּ֒le.hash.chi.TahH7843it; but as he was about to destroyוּכְהַשְׁחִ֗יתu.khe.hash.ChitH7843it,the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068sawרָאָ֤הra.'AhH7200andwasH5162sorryH5162aboutעַל־'al-H5921the catastropheH7463,and saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to the destroyingהַמַּשְׁחִית֙ha.mash.ChitH7843angelלַמַּלְאָ֤ךְla.mal.'AkhH4397, “It is enoughרַ֔בRavH7227;nowעַתָּ֖ה'a.TahH6258relaxהֶ֣רֶףHe.refH7503your handיָדֶ֑ךָya.De.khaH3027.”And the angelוּמַלְאַ֤ךְu.mal.'AkhH4397of the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068was standingעֹמֵ֔ד'o.MedH5975by the threshingגֹּ֖רֶןGo.renH1637floorH1637ofOrnanאָרְנָ֥ן'a.re.NanH771the Jebusiteהַיְבוּסִֽי׃ סhay.vu.SiH2983.

16Then Davidדָוִ֜ידda.VidH1732raisedוַיִּשָּׂ֨אvai.yi.Sa'H5375his eyesעֵינָ֗יו'ei.NavH5869and sawוַיַּ֞רְאvai.Yar'H7200the angelמַלְאַ֤ךְmal.'AkhH4397of the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068standingעֹמֵ֗ד'o.MedH5975betweenH996earthהָאָ֙רֶץ֙ha.'A.retzH776and heavenהַשָּׁמַ֔יִםha.sha.Ma.yimH8064,with his drawnשְׁלוּפָה֙she.lu.FahH8025swordוְחַרְבּ֤וֹve.char.BoH2719in his handבְּיָד֔וֹbe.ya.DoH3027stretchedנְטוּיָ֖הne.tu.YahH5186outH5186overH5921Jerusalemיְרוּשָׁלִָ֑םye.ru.sha.LimH3389.Then Davidדָּוִ֧ידda.VidH1732and the eldersוְהַזְּקֵנִ֛יםve.ha.ze.ke.NimH2205,coveredמְכֻסִּ֥יםme.khu.SimH3680with sackclothבַּשַּׂקִּ֖יםba.sa.KimH8242,fellוַיִּפֹּ֨לvai.yi.PolH5307on their facesפְּנֵיהֶֽם׃pe.nei.HemH6440.

17And Davidדָּוִ֣ידda.VidH1732saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Godהָאֱלֹהִ֡יםha.'E.lo.HimH430, “Is it not I whocommandedאָמַ֜רְתִּי'a.Mar.tiH559to countלִמְנ֣וֹתlim.NotH4487the peopleבָּעָ֗םba.'AmH5971?Indeed, I am the one whoאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834has sinnedחָטָ֙אתִי֙cha.Ta.tiH2398and actedH7489veryH7489wickedlyH7489,but theseוְאֵ֥לֶּהve.'E.lehH428sheepהַצֹּ֖אןha.TzonH6629,whatמֶ֣הmehH4100have they doneעָשׂ֑וּ'a.SuH6213? 18Then the angelוּמַלְאַ֧ךְu.mal.'AkhH4397of the Lordיְהוָ֛הYah.wehH3068commandedאָמַ֥ר'a.MarH559Gadגָּ֖דgadH1410to sayלֵאמֹ֣רle.MorH559to Davidלְדָוִ֑ידle.da.VidH1732,that Davidדָוִ֗ידda.VidH1732was to goיַעֲלֶ֣הya.'a.LehH5927upH5927and buildלְהָקִ֤יםle.ha.KimH6965an altarמִזְבֵּ֙חַ֙miz.Be.achH4196to the Lordלַיהוָ֔הla.Yah.wehH3068on the threshingבְּגֹ֖רֶןbe.Go.renH1637floorH1637of Ornanאָרְנָ֥ן'a.re.NanH771the Jebusiteהַיְבֻסִֽי׃hay.vu.SiH2983.

19So Davidדָּוִיד֙da.VidH1732wentH5927upH5927at the wordבִּדְבַר־bid.var-H1697of Gadגָּ֔דGadH1410,whichאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834he spokeדִּבֶּ֖רdi.BerH1696in the nameבְּשֵׁ֥םbe.ShemH8034of the Lordיְהוָֽה׃Yah.wehH3068.

20Now Ornanאָרְנָ֗ן'a.re.NanH771turnedוַיָּ֣שָׁבvai.Ya.shovH7725backH7725and sawוַיַּרְא֙vai.yaR'H7200the angelהַמַּלְאָ֔ךְha.mal.'AkhH4397,and his fourוְאַרְבַּ֧עַתve.'ar.Ba.'atH702sonsבָּנָ֛יוba.NavH1121who werewith him hidמִֽתְחַבְּאִ֑יםmit.cha.be.'ImH2244themselves. And Ornanוְאָרְנָ֖ןve.'a.re.NanH771was threshingדָּ֥שׁdashH1758wheatחִטִּֽים׃chi.TimH2406.

21As Davidדָוִ֖ידda.VidH1732cameוַיָּבֹ֥אvai.ya.Vo'H935to Ornanאָרְנָ֑ן'a.re.NanH771,Ornanאָרְנָן֙'a.re.NanH771lookedוַיַּבֵּ֤טvai.ya.BetH5027and sawוַיַּ֣רְאvai.Yar'H7200Davidדָּוִ֔ידda.VidH1732,and wentH3318outH3318from the threshingהַגֹּ֔רֶןha.Go.renH1637floorH1637and prostratedH2331himself to Davidלְדָוִ֛ידle.da.VidH1732with his faceאַפַּ֖יִם'a.Pa.yimH639to the groundאָֽרְצָה׃'A.re.tzahH776.

22Then Davidדָּוִ֜ידda.VidH1732saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Ornanאָרְנָ֗ן'a.re.NanH771, “Giveתְּנָה־te.nah-H5414me thesiteמְק֣וֹםme.KomH4725of thisthreshingH1637floorהַגֹּ֔רֶןha.Go.renH1637,so that I may buildוְאֶבְנֶה־ve.'ev.neh-H1129on it an altarמִזְבֵּ֖חַmiz.Be.achH4196to the Lordלַיהוָ֑הla.Yah.wehH3068;you shall giveתְּנֵ֣הוּte.Ne.huH5414it to me for the fullמָלֵא֙ma.Le'H4392priceבְּכֶ֤סֶףbe.Khe.sefH3701,so that the plagueהַמַּגֵּפָ֖הha.ma.ge.FahH4046may be broughtH6113toH6113aH6113haltH6113from the peopleהָעָֽם׃ha.'AmH5971.”

23But Ornanאָרְנָ֤ן'a.re.NanH771saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Davidדָּוִיד֙da.VidH1732, “Takeקַֽח־kach-H3947itfor yourself, and may my lordאֲדֹנִ֥י'a.do.NiH113the kingהַמֶּ֖לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428doוְיַ֛עַשׂve.Ya.'asH6213whatH2896isH2896goodהַטּ֣וֹבha.TovH2896in his sightבְּעֵינָ֑יוbe.'ei.NavH5869.Seeרְאֵה֩re.'EhH7200,I am givingנָתַ֨תִּיna.Ta.tiH5414the oxenהַבָּקָ֜רha.ba.KarH1241for burntלָֽעֹל֗וֹתla.'o.LotH5930offeringsH5930,and the threshingH4173sledgesH4173for woodלָעֵצִ֛יםla.'e.TzimH6086and the wheatוְהַחִטִּ֥יםve.ha.chi.TimH2406for the grain offeringלַמִּנְחָ֖הla.min.ChahH4503;I am givingנָתָֽתִּי׃na.Ta.tiH5414itallהַכֹּ֥לha.KolH3605.”

24Nevertheless, Kingהַמֶּ֤לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428Davidדָּוִיד֙da.VidH1732saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Ornanלְאָרְנָ֔ןle.'a.re.NanH771, “NoH3808,but I will certainlyקָנֹ֥הka.NohH7069buyאֶקְנֶ֖ה'ek.NehH7069itfor the fullמָלֵ֑אma.Le'H4392priceבְּכֶ֣סֶףbe.Khe.sefH3701;for I will not takeאֶשָּׂ֤א'e.Sa'H5375whatאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834is yours for the Lordלַיהוָ֔הla.Yah.wehH3068,nor offerוְהַעֲל֥וֹתve.ha.'a.LotH5927a burntעוֹלָ֖הo.LahH5930offeringH5930whichH2600costsH2600me nothingחִנָּֽם׃chi.NamH2600.”

26Then Davidדָּוִ֤ידda.VidH1732builtוַיִּבֶן֩vai.yi.VenH1129an altarמִזְבֵּ֙חַ֙miz.Be.achH4196thereשָׁ֨םshamH8033to the Lordלַיהוָ֔הla.Yah.wehH3068,and offeredוַיַּ֥עַלvai.Ya.'alH5927burntעֹל֖וֹתo.LotH5930offeringsהָעֹלָֽה׃ פha.'o.LahH5930and peaceוּשְׁלָמִ֑יםu.she.la.MimH8002offeringsH8002.And he calledוַיִּקְרָא֙vai.yik.Ra'H7121to the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068, andHe answeredוַיַּֽעֲנֵ֤הוּvai.ya.'a.Ne.huH6030him with fireבָאֵשׁ֙va.'EshH784from heavenהַשָּׁמַ֔יִםha.sha.Ma.yimH8064on the altarמִזְבַּ֥חmiz.BachH4196of burntH5930offeringH5930.

27The Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068commandedוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559the angelלַמַּלְאָ֔ךְla.mal.'AkhH4397,and he returnedוַיָּ֥שֶׁבvai.Ya.shevH7725his swordחַרְבּ֖וֹchar.BoH2719to its sheathנְדָנָֽהּ׃ne.da.NahH5084.

28At that timeבָּעֵ֣תba.'EtH6256,when Davidדָּוִיד֙da.VidH1732sawבִּרְא֤וֹתbir.'otH7200that the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068had answeredעָנָ֣הוּ'a.Na.huH6030him on the threshingבְּגֹ֖רֶןbe.Go.renH1637floorH1637of Ornanאָרְנָ֣ן'a.re.NanH771the Jebusiteהַיְבוּסִ֑יhay.vu.SiH2983,he offeredH2076sacrificeH2076thereשָֽׁם׃ShamH8033.

29For the tabernacleוּמִשְׁכַּ֣ןu.mish.KanH4908of the Lordיְ֠הוָהYah.wehH3068,whichאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834Mosesמֹשֶׁ֧הmo.ShehH4872had madeעָשָׂ֨ה'a.SahH6213in the wildernessבַמִּדְבָּ֛רva.mid.BarH4057,and the altarוּמִזְבַּ֥חu.miz.BachH4196of burntהָעוֹלָ֖הha.'o.LahH5930offeringH5930wereon the highבַּבָּמָ֖הba.ba.MahH1116placeH1116at Gibeonבְּגִבְעֽוֹן׃be.giv.'onH1391at that timeבָּעֵ֣תba.'EtH6256.

30But Davidדָּוִ֛ידda.VidH1732couldיָכֹ֥לya.KholH3201not goלָלֶ֥כֶתla.Le.khetH1980beforeH6440it to inquireלִדְרֹ֣שׁlid.RoshH1875of Godאֱלֹהִ֑ים'E.lo.HimH430,for he was terrifiedנִבְעַ֔תniv.'AtH1204by the swordחֶ֖רֶבChe.revH2719of the angelמַלְאַ֥ךְmal.'AkhH4397of the Lordיְהוָֽה׃ סYah.wehH3068.
