1 Kings 1:3-15

3So they searchedH1245 for a beautifulH3303 girlH5291 throughout allH3605 the territoryH1366 of IsraelH3478, and foundH4672 AbishagH49 the 1ShunammiteH7767, and broughtH935 her to the kingH4428. 4The girlH5291 was veryH3966 beautifulH3303; and she becameH1961 the king’sH4428 nurseH5532 and servedH8334 him, but the kingH4428 did not 2cohabitH3045 with her.

5Now 3AdonijahH138 the sonH1121 of HaggithH2294 exaltedH5375 himself, sayingH559, “I will be kingH4427.” So 4he preparedH6213 for himself chariotsH7393 and horsemenH6571 with fiftyH2572 menH376 to runH7323 beforeH6440 him. 6His fatherH1 had neverH3808 5crossedH6087 him at anyH4480 timeH3117 by askingH559, “WhyH4069 have you doneH6213 soH3602?” And he was alsoH1571 a veryH3966 handsomeH2896H8389 manH2896, and 67he was bornH3205 afterH310 AbsalomH53. 78He had conferredH1697 with 9JoabH3097 the sonH1121 of ZeruiahH6870 and with 10AbiatharH54 the priestH3548; and followingH310 11AdonijahH138 they helpedH5826 him. 8But 12ZadokH6659 the priestH3548, 13BenaiahH1141 the sonH1121 of JehoiadaH3077, 14NathanH5416 the prophetH5030, 15ShimeiH8096, ReiH7472, and 16the mightyH1368 menH1368 whoH834 belonged to DavidH1732, were not with AdonijahH138.

9AdonijahH138 sacrificedH2076 sheepH6629 and oxenH1241 and fatlingsH4806 by the 17stoneH68 of ZohelethH2120, whichH834 is besideH681 18En-rogelH5883; and he invitedH7121 allH3605 his brothersH251, the king’sH4428 sonsH1121, and allH3605 the menH376 of JudahH3063, the king’sH4428 servantsH5650. 10But he did not inviteH7121 NathanH5416 the prophetH5030, BenaiahH1141, the mightyH1368 menH1368, and 19SolomonH8010 his brotherH251.

11Then NathanH5416 spokeH559 to 20BathshebaH1339 the motherH517 of SolomonH8010, sayingH559, “Have you not heardH8085 that AdonijahH138 the sonH1121 of HaggithH2294 has becomeH4427 kingH4427, and DavidH1732 our lordH113 does not knowH3045 it? 12So nowH6258 comeH1980, pleaseH4994 let me 21giveH3289 you counselH6098 and saveH4422 your lifeH5315 and the lifeH5315 of your sonH1121 SolomonH8010. 13GoH1980 22at onceH935 to KingH4428 DavidH1732 and sayH559 to him, ‘Have you not, my lordH113, O kingH4428, swornH7650 to your maidservantH519, sayingH559, “23SurelyH3588 SolomonH8010 your sonH1121 shall be kingH4427 afterH310 me, and he shall sitH3427 on my throneH3678”? WhyH4069 then has AdonijahH138 becomeH4427 kingH4427?’ 14BeholdH2009, while you are stillH5750 thereH8033 speakingH1696 with the kingH4428, I will comeH935 in afterH310 you and confirmH4390 your wordsH1697.”

15So BathshebaH1339 wentH935 in to the kingH4428 in the bedroomH2315. Now 24the kingH4428 was veryH3966 oldH2204, and AbishagH49 the ShunammiteH7767 was ministeringH8334 to the kingH4428.
