1 Kings 1:11-48
11Then NathanH5416 spokeH559 to 1BathshebaH1339 the motherH517 of SolomonH8010, sayingH559, “Have you not heardH8085 that AdonijahH138 the sonH1121 of HaggithH2294 has becomeH4427 kingH4427, and DavidH1732 our lordH113 does not knowH3045 it? 12So nowH6258 comeH1980, pleaseH4994 let me 2giveH3289 you counselH6098 and saveH4422 your lifeH5315 and the lifeH5315 of your sonH1121 SolomonH8010. 13GoH1980 3at onceH935 to KingH4428 DavidH1732 and sayH559 to him, ‘Have you not, my lordH113, O kingH4428, swornH7650 to your maidservantH519, sayingH559, “4SurelyH3588 SolomonH8010 your sonH1121 shall be kingH4427 afterH310 me, and he shall sitH3427 on my throneH3678”? WhyH4069 then has AdonijahH138 becomeH4427 kingH4427?’ 14BeholdH2009, while you are stillH5750 thereH8033 speakingH1696 with the kingH4428, I will comeH935 in afterH310 you and confirmH4390 your wordsH1697.”
15So BathshebaH1339 wentH935 in to the kingH4428 in the bedroomH2315. Now 5the kingH4428 was veryH3966 oldH2204, and AbishagH49 the ShunammiteH7767 was ministeringH8334 to the kingH4428. 16Then BathshebaH1339 bowedH6915 and prostratedH7812 herself 6before the kingH4428. And the kingH4428 saidH559, “WhatH4100 7do you wish?” 17She saidH559 to him, “My lordH113, you sworeH7650 to your maidservantH519 by the LordH3068 your GodH430, saying, ‘8SurelyH3588 your sonH1121 SolomonH8010 shall be kingH4427 afterH310 me and he shall sitH3427 on my throneH3678.’ 18NowH6258, beholdH2009, AdonijahH138 is kingH4427; and nowH6258, my lordH113 the kingH4428, you do not knowH3045 it. 199He has sacrificedH2076 oxenH7794 and fatlingsH4806 and sheepH6629 in abundanceH7230, and has invitedH7121 allH3605 the sonsH1121 of the kingH4428 and AbiatharH54 the priestH3548 and JoabH3097 the commanderH8269 of the armyH6635, but he has not invitedH7121 SolomonH8010 your servantH5650. 20As for you now, my lordH113 the kingH4428, the eyesH5869 of allH3605 IsraelH3478 are on you, to tellH5046 them whoH4310 shall sitH3427 on the throneH3678 of my lordH113 the kingH4428 afterH310 him. 21Otherwise it will comeH1961 about, 10as soon as my lordH113 the kingH4428 sleepsH7901 with his fathersH1, that I and my sonH1121 SolomonH8010 will be considered 11offendersH2400.”
22BeholdH2009, while she was stillH5750 speakingH1696 with the kingH4428, NathanH5416 the prophetH5030 cameH935 in. 23They toldH5046 the kingH4428, sayingH559, “HereH2009 is NathanH5416 the prophetH5030.” And when he cameH935 in beforeH6440 the kingH4428, he prostratedH7812 himself 12before the kingH4428 with his faceH639 to the groundH776. 24Then NathanH5416 saidH559, “My lordH113 the kingH4428, have you saidH559, ‘AdonijahH138 shall be kingH4427 afterH310 me, and he shall sitH3427 on my throneH3678’? 2513For he has goneH3381 downH3381 todayH3117 and has sacrificedH2076 oxenH7794 and fatlingsH4806 and sheepH6629 in abundanceH7230, and has invitedH7121 allH3605 the king’sH4428 sonsH1121 and the commandersH8269 of the armyH6635 and AbiatharH54 the priestH3548, and beholdH2009, they are eatingH398 and drinkingH8354 beforeH6440 him; and they sayH559, ‘14Long liveH2421 KingH4428 AdonijahH138!’ 2615But me, even me your servantH5650, and ZadokH6659 the priestH3548 and BenaiahH1141 the sonH1121 of JehoiadaH3077 and your servantH5650 SolomonH8010, he has not invitedH7121. 27Has thisH2088 thingH1697 beenH1961 doneH1961 by my lordH113 the kingH4428, and you have not shownH3045 to your 16servantsH5650 whoH4310 should sitH3427 on the throneH3678 of my lordH113 the kingH4428 afterH310 him?”
28Then KingH4428 DavidH1732 saidH559, “CallH7121 BathshebaH1339 to me.” And she cameH935 into the king’sH4428 presenceH6440 and stoodH5975 beforeH6440 the kingH4428. 29The kingH4428 vowedH7650 and saidH559, “17As the LordH3068 livesH2416, whoH834 has redeemedH6299 my lifeH5315 from allH3605 distressH6869, 30surelyH3588 as 18I vowedH7650 to you by the LordH3068 the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, sayingH559, ‘Your sonH1121 SolomonH8010 shall be kingH4427 afterH310 me, and he shall sitH3427 on my throneH3678 in my placeH8478’; I will indeedH3588 doH6213 soH3651 thisH2088 dayH3117.” 31Then BathshebaH1339 bowedH6915 with her faceH639 to the groundH776, and prostratedH7812 herself 19before the kingH4428 and saidH559, “20May my lordH113 KingH4428 DavidH1732 liveH2421 foreverH5769.”
32Then KingH4428 DavidH1732 saidH559, “CallH7121 to me 21ZadokH6659 the priestH3548, NathanH5416 the prophetH5030, and BenaiahH1141 the sonH1121 of JehoiadaH3077.” And they cameH935 into the king’sH4428 presenceH6440. 33The kingH4428 saidH559 to them, “TakeH3947 with you 22the servantsH5650 of your lordH113, and have my sonH1121 SolomonH8010 rideH7392 on my own muleH6506, and bringH3381 him downH3381 to 23GihonH1521. 34Let ZadokH6659 the priestH3548 and NathanH5416 the prophetH5030 24anointH4886 him thereH8033 as kingH4428 overH5921 IsraelH3478, and 25blowH8628 the trumpetH7782 and sayH559, ‘26Long liveH2421 KingH4428 SolomonH8010!’ 35Then you shall comeH5927 up afterH310 him, and he shall comeH935 and sitH3427 on my throneH3678 and be kingH4427 in my placeH8478; for I have appointedH6680 him to be rulerH5057 overH5921 IsraelH3478 and JudahH3063.” 36BenaiahH1141 the sonH1121 of JehoiadaH3077 answeredH6030 the kingH4428 and saidH559, “AmenH543! ThusH3651 may the LordH3068, the GodH430 of my lordH113 the kingH4428, sayH559. 3727As the LordH3068 has beenH1961 with my lordH113 the kingH4428, soH3651 may He be with SolomonH8010, and 28makeH1431 his throneH3678 greaterH1431 thanH4480 the throneH3678 of my lordH113 KingH4428 DavidH1732!”
38So 29ZadokH6659 the priestH3548, NathanH5416 the prophetH5030, BenaiahH1141 the sonH1121 of JehoiadaH3077, 30the CherethitesH3774, and the PelethitesH6432 wentH3381 downH3381 and had SolomonH8010 rideH7392 on KingH4428 David’sH1732 muleH6506, and broughtH1980 him to 31GihonH1521. 39ZadokH6659 the priestH3548 then 32tookH3947 the hornH7161 of oilH8081 from the tentH168 and 33anointedH4886 SolomonH8010. Then they 34blewH8628 the trumpetH7782, and allH3605 the peopleH5971 saidH559, “35Long liveH2421 KingH4428 SolomonH8010!” 40AllH3605 the peopleH5971 wentH5927 up afterH310 him, and the peopleH5971 36were playingH2490 on flutesH2485 and rejoicingH8056 with greatH1419 joyH8057, so that the earthH776 37shookH1234 at their noiseH6963.
41Now AdonijahH138 and allH3605 the guestsH7121 whoH834 were with him heardH8085 it as they finishedH3615 eatingH398. When JoabH3097 heardH8085 the soundH6963 of the trumpetH7782, he saidH559, “WhyH4069 38is the cityH7151 makingH1993 such an uproarH1993?” 42While he was stillH5750 speakingH1696, beholdH2009, 39JonathanH3083 the sonH1121 of AbiatharH54 the priestH3548 cameH935. Then AdonijahH138 saidH559, “ComeH935 in, for 40you are a valiantH2428 manH376 and bringH1319 goodH2896 newsH1319.” 43But JonathanH3083 repliedH6030 to AdonijahH138, “NoH61! Our lordH113 KingH4428 DavidH1732 has madeH4427 SolomonH8010 kingH4428. 44The kingH4428 has also sentH7971 with him ZadokH6659 the priestH3548, NathanH5416 the prophetH5030, BenaiahH1141 the sonH1121 of JehoiadaH3077, the CherethitesH3774, and the PelethitesH6432; and they have made him rideH7392 on the king’sH4428 muleH6506. 45ZadokH6659 the priestH3548 and NathanH5416 the prophetH5030 have anointedH4886 him kingH4428 in GihonH1521, and they have comeH5927 up from thereH8033 rejoicingH8056, 41so that the cityH7151 is in an uproarH1949. ThisH1931 is the noiseH6963 whichH834 you have heardH8085. 46BesidesH1571, 42SolomonH8010 has evenH1571 takenH3427 his seatH3427 on the throneH3678 of the kingdomH4410. 47MoreoverH1571, the king’sH4428 servantsH5650 cameH935 to blessH1288 our lordH113 KingH4428 DavidH1732, sayingH559, ‘May 43your GodH430 makeH3190 the nameH8034 of SolomonH8010 betterH3190 thanH4480 your nameH8034 and his throneH3678 greaterH1431 thanH4480 your throneH3678!’ And 44the kingH4428 bowedH7812 himself on the bedH4904. 48The kingH4428 has alsoH1571 saidH559 thusH3602, ‘BlessedH1288 be the LordH3068, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, whoH834 45has grantedH5414 one to sitH3427 on my throneH3678 todayH3117 while my own eyesH5869 seeH7200 it.’”
