Matthew 27:18-26

18For he knewG3609that becauseδιὰdiaG1223of envyφθόνονphthononG5355they had handedπαρέδωκανparedōkanG3860Him over.

19While he was sittingΚαθημένουKathēmenouG2521on the judgmentβήματοςbēmatosG968seatG968,his wifeγυνὴgunēG1135sentἀπέστειλενapesteilenG649him a message,sayingλέγουσα·legousaG3004, “Have nothingμηδὲνmēdenG3367to do with thatrighteousδικαίῳdikaiōG1342ManG1342; forlastG4594nightG4594I sufferedἔπαθονepathonG3958greatlyπολλὰpollaG4183in a dreamὄναρonarG3677becauseδι᾽di᾽G1223of Him.”

20But the chiefἀρχιερεῖςarchiereisG749priestsG749and the eldersπρεσβύτεροιpresbuteroiG4245persuadedἔπεισανepeisanG3982the crowdsὄχλουςochlousG3793toaskαἰτήσωνταιaitēsōntaiG154for BarabbasΒαραββᾶν,BarabbanG912and to putG622JesusἸησοῦνIēsounG2424to deathG622.

21But the governorἡγεμὼνhēgemōnG2232saidG3004to them, “WhichτίναtinaG5101of the twoδύοduoG1417do you wantθέλετεtheleteG2309me to releaseἀπολύσωapolusōG630for you?” And they saidG3004, “BarabbasΒαραββᾶν.BarabbanG912.”

22PilateΠιλᾶτος·PilatosG4091saidλέγειlegeiG3004to them, “ThenοὖνounG3767whatτίtiG5101shall I doποιήσωpoiēsōG4160with JesusἸησοῦνIēsounG2424who is calledλεγόμενονlegomenonG3004Christχριστόν;christonG5547?”They allπάντες·pantesG3956saidλέγουσινlegousinG3004, “Crucifyσταυρωθήτω.staurōthētōG4717Him!”

23And he saidἔφη·ephēG5346, “WhyγὰρgarG1063,whatτίtiG5101evilκακὸνkakonG2556has He doneἐποίησεν;epoiēsenG4160?”But they kept shoutingἔκραζονekrazonG2896allG4057the moreG4057,sayingλέγοντες·legontesG3004, “Crucifyσταυρωθήτω.¶staurōthētōG4717Him!”

24When PilateΠιλᾶτοςPilatosG4091sawG3708that he was accomplishingὠφελεῖōpheleiG5623nothingοὐδὲνoudenG3762,but ratherμᾶλλονmallonG3123thata riotθόρυβοςthorubosG2351was startingγίνεται,ginetaiG1096,he tookλαβὼνlabōnG2983waterὕδωρhudōrG5204andwashedἀπενίψατοapenipsatoG633his handsχεῖραςcheirasG5495in frontG2713of the crowdὄχλουochlouG3793,sayingλέγων·legōnG3004, “I amεἰμιeimiG1510innocentἀθῷόςathōosG121ofthisG3778Man’sG3778bloodαἵματοςaimatosG129;seeG3708to thatyourselvesὑμεῖςhumeisG4771.”

25And allπᾶςpasG3956the peopleλαὸςlaosG2992saidG3004, “His bloodαἷμαhaimaG129shall be on us and on our childrenτέκναteknaG5043!”

26ThenτότεtoteG5119he releasedἀπέλυσενapelusenG630BarabbasΒαραββᾶν·BarabbanG912for them; but after having JesusἸησοῦνIēsounG2424scourgedφραγελλώσαςphragellōsasG5417,he handedπαρέδωκενparedōkenG3860Him over to be crucifiedσταυρωθῇ.¶staurōthēaG4717.
