2 Samuel 13:6-29 6 So Amnon אַמְנ֖וֹן 'am.Non H550 lay H7901 down וַיִּשְׁכַּ֥ב vai.yish.Kav H7901 and feigned himself sick וַיִּתְחָ֑ל vai.yit.Chal H2470 ; and the king הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ ha.Me.lekh H4428 came H935 to see לִרְאֹת֗וֹ lir.'o.To H7200 him , and Amnon אַמְנ֤וֹן 'am.Non H550 said H559 to the king הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ ha.Me.lekh H4428 , I pray thee, let Tamar תָּמָ֣ר ta.Mar H8559 my sister אֲחֹתִ֗י 'a.cho.Ti H269 come H935 , and make a couple of cakes in my sight , that I may eat וְאֶבְרֶ֖ה ve.'ev.Reh H1262 from her hand מִיָּדָֽהּ׃ mi.ya.Dah H3027 . 7 And David דָּוִ֛ד da.Vid H1732 sent H7971 home to Tamar תָּמָ֖ר ta.Mar H8559 , saying לֵאמֹ֑ר le.Mor H559 , Go H7971 , I pray thee, to thy brother אָחִ֔יךְ 'a.Chikh H251 Amnon's house H1004 , and dress him food הַבִּרְיָֽה׃ ha.bir.Yah H1279 . 8 And Tamar תָּמָ֗ר ta.Mar H8559 went to her brother אָחִ֖יהָ 'a.Chi.ha H251 Amnon's house בֵּ֛ית beit H1004 ; and he had lain H7901 down שֹׁכֵ֑ב sho.Khev H7901 . And she took H3947 flour and kneaded וַתָּ֙לָשׁ֙ va.ta.lo.osh H3888 it , and made cakes in his sight , and baked the cakes . 9 And she took H3947 the pan , and poured וַתִּצֹ֣ק va.ti.Tzok H3332 them out before him ; but he refused H3985 to eat לֶאֱכ֑וֹל le.'e.Khol H398 . And Amnon אַמְנ֗וֹן 'am.Non H550 said H559 , Put every man H376 out from me . And they went H3318 out every man H376 from him . 10 And Amnon אַמְנ֜וֹן 'am.Non H550 said H559 to Tamar תָּמָ֗ר ta.Mar H8559 , Bring H935 the dish into the chamber הַחֶ֔דֶר ha.che.Der H2315 , that I may eat וְאֶבְרֶ֖ה ve.'ev.Reh H1262 of thy hand מִיָּדֵ֑ךְ mi.ya.Dekh H3027 . And Tamar תָּמָ֗ר ta.Mar H8559 took H3947 the cakes that she had made H6213 , and brought H935 them into the chamber הֶחָֽדְרָה׃ he.Cha.de.rah H2315 to Amnon לְאַמְנ֥וֹן le.'am.Non H550 her brother אָחִ֖יהָ 'a.Chi.ha H251 . 11 And she presented them to him to eat לֶֽאֱכֹ֑ל le.'e.Khol H398 ; and he took H2388 hold וַיַּֽחֲזֶק־ vai.ya.cha.zek- H2388 of her , and said H559 to her , Come בּ֛וֹאִי Bo.'i H935 , lie שִׁכְבִ֥י shikh.Vi H7901 with me , my sister אֲחוֹתִֽי׃ 'a.cho.Ti H269 . 12 And she said H559 to him , No , my brother אָחִי֙ 'a.Chi H251 , do not humble me ; for no such thing is done in Israel בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל be.Yis.ra.'El H3478 : do not this infamy. 13 And I , whither shall I carry my reproach חֶרְפָּתִ֔י cher.pa.Ti H2781 ? and thou wouldest be תִּהְיֶ֛ה tih.Yeh H1961 as one כְּאַחַ֥ד ke.'a.Chad H259 of the infamous in Israel בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל be.Yis.ra.'El H3478 . And now וְעַתָּה֙ ve.'a.Tah H6258 , I pray thee, speak דַּבֶּר־ da.ber- H1696 to the king הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ ha.Me.lekh H4428 ; for he will not withhold יִמְנָעֵ֖נִי yim.na.'E.ni H4513 me from thee. 14 But he would אָבָ֖ה 'a.Vah H14 not hearken to her voice בְּקוֹלָ֑הּ be.ko.Lah H6963 , and was stronger וַיֶּחֱזַ֤ק vai.ye.che.Zak H2388 than she , and humbled her and lay H7901 with her . 15 And Amnon אַמְנ֗וֹן 'am.Non H550 hated וַיִּשְׂנָאֶ֣הָ vai.yis.na.'E.ha H8130 her with an exceeding great גְּדוֹלָ֣ה ge.do.Lah H1419 hatred שִׂנְאָה֙ sin.'Ah H8135 , for the hatred הַשִּׂנְאָה֙ ha.sin.'Ah H8135 with which he hated שְׂנֵאָ֔הּ se.ne.'Ah H8130 her was greater גְדוֹלָ֗ה ge.do.Lah H1419 than the love H157 with which he had loved H157 her . And Amnon אַמְנ֖וֹן 'am.Non H550 said H559 to her , Arise H6965 , be gone. 16 And she said H559 to him , There is no cause for this evil הָרָעָ֤ה ha.ra.'Ah H7451 in sending לְשַׁלְּחֵ֑נִי le.sha.le.Che.ni H7971 me away H7971 , [ which ] is greater הַגְּדוֹלָה֙ ha.ge.do.Lah H1419 than the other מֵאַחֶ֛רֶת me.'a.Che.ret H312 that thou didst to me . But he would אָבָ֖ה 'a.Vah H14 not hearken to her . 17 Then he called H7121 his young נַעֲרוֹ֙ na.'a.Ro H5288 man H5288 that attended upon him , and said H559 , Put now this [woman] out from me , and bolt the door הַדֶּ֖לֶת ha.De.let H1817 after her . 18 Now she had a vest of many colours upon her ; for so H3651 were the king's daughters בְנוֹת־ ve.not- H1323 that were virgins הַבְּתוּלֹ֖ת ha.be.tu.Lot H1330 apparelled. And his attendant brought H3318 her out , and bolted the door הַדֶּ֖לֶת ha.De.let H1817 after her . 19 And Tamar תָּמָ֥ר ta.Mar H8559 put וַתָּ֤שֶׂם va.Ta.sem H7760 ashes אֵ֙פֶר֙ 'e.fer H665 on her head רֹאשָׁ֔הּ ro.Shah H7218 , and rent her vest of many colours which was on her , and laid her hand יָדָהּ֙ ya.Dah H3027 on her head רֹאשָׁ֔הּ ro.Shah H7218 , and went H1980 away , crying H2199 out as she went H1980 . 20 And Absalom H53 her brother אָחִ֗יהָ 'a.Chi.ha H251 said H559 to her , Has Amnon הַאֲמִינ֣וֹן ha.'a.mi.Non H550 thy brother אָחִיךְ֮ 'a.chiKh H251 been H1961 with thee? and now וְעַתָּ֞ה ve.'a.Tah H6258 , my sister אֲחוֹתִ֤י 'a.cho.Ti H269 , be H1961 still : he is thy brother אָחִ֣יךְ 'a.Chikh H251 ; take not this thing H1697 to heart לִבֵּ֖ךְ li.Bekh H3820 . And Tamar תָּמָר֙ ta.Mar H8559 remained H3427 , and [ that ] desolate וְשֹׁ֣מֵמָ֔ה ve.Sho.me.Mah H8076 , in her brother אָחִֽיהָ׃ 'a.Chi.ha H251 Absalom's house בֵּ֖ית beit H1004 . 22 And Absalom אַבְשָׁל֛וֹם 'av.sha.Lom H53 spoke H1696 to Amnon אַמְנ֖וֹן 'am.Non H550 neither good ט֑וֹב Tov H2896 nor bad לְמֵרָ֣ע le.me.Ra' H7451 ; for Absalom אַבְשָׁלוֹם֙ 'av.sha.lOm H53 hated שָׂנֵ֤א sa.Ne' H8130 Amnon אַמְנ֔וֹן 'am.Non H550 , because he had humbled his sister אֲחֹתֽוֹ׃ פ 'a.cho.To H269 Tamar תָּמָ֥ר ta.Mar H8559 . 23 And it came to pass after two full years לִשְׁנָתַ֣יִם lish.na.Ta.yim H8141 , that Absalom לְאַבְשָׁל֔וֹם le.'av.sha.Lom H53 had sheepshearers in Baal-Hazor , which is beside Ephraim אֶפְרָ֑יִם 'ef.Ra.yim H669 ; and Absalom אַבְשָׁל֖וֹם 'av.sha.Lom H53 invited all the king's sons בְּנֵ֥י be.Nei H1121 . 24 And Absalom אַבְשָׁלוֹם֙ 'av.sha.lOm H53 came H935 to the king הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ ha.Me.lekh H4428 , and said H559 , Behold , now , thy servant לְעַבְדֶּ֑ךָ le.'av.De.kha H5650 has sheepshearers ; let the king הַמֶּ֛לֶךְ ha.Me.lekh H4428 , I pray thee, and his servants וַעֲבָדָ֖יו va.'a.va.Dav H5650 go H935 with thy servant עַבְדֶּֽךָ׃ 'av.De.kha H5650 . 25 And the king הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ ha.Me.lekh H4428 said H559 to Absalom אַבְשָׁל֗וֹם 'av.sha.Lom H53 , No , my son בְּנִי֙ be.Ni H1121 , let us not all go , lest we be burdensome to thee. And he urged him , but he would אָבָ֥ה 'a.Vah H14 not go ; and he blessed H1288 him . 26 And Absalom אַבְשָׁל֔וֹם 'av.sha.Lom H53 said H559 , If not , I pray thee, let my brother אָחִ֑י 'a.Chi H251 Amnon אַמְנ֣וֹן 'am.Non H550 go with us . And the king הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ ha.Me.lekh H4428 said H559 to him , Why לָ֥מָּה La.mah H4100 should he go with thee? 27 But Absalom אַבְשָׁל֑וֹם 'av.sha.Lom H53 pressed him ; and he let Amnon אַמְנ֔וֹן 'am.Non H550 and all the king's sons בְּנֵ֥י be.Nei H1121 go H7971 with him . 28 And Absalom אַבְשָׁל֨וֹם 'av.sha.Lom H53 commanded וַיְצַו֩ vay.Tzav H6680 his servants נְעָרָ֜יו ne.'a.Rav H5288 , saying לֵאמֹ֗ר le.Mor H559 , Mark ye now when Amnon's heart לֵב־ lev- H3820 is merry with wine בַּיַּ֙יִן֙ bai.Ya.yin H3196 , and when I say וְאָמַרְתִּ֣י ve.'a.mar.Ti H559 to you , Smite Amnon H550 ; then slay him , fear H3372 not : have not I commanded צִוִּ֣יתִי tzi.Vi.ti H6680 you ? be H1961 courageous , and be H1961 valiant . 29 And the servants נַעֲרֵ֤י na.'a.Rei H5288 of Absalom אַבְשָׁלוֹם֙ 'av.sha.lOm H53 did to Amnon לְאַמְנ֔וֹן le.'am.Non H550 as Absalom אַבְשָׁל֑וֹם 'av.sha.Lom H53 had commanded צִוָּ֖ה tzi.Vah H6680 . Then all the king's sons בְּנֵ֣י be.Nei H1121 arose H6965 , and they rode H7392 each upon his mule פִּרְדּ֖וֹ pir.Do H6505 and fled H5127 .
