Psalms 73–89
Surely God Is Good to Israel
A Psalm of Asaph.
1SurelyH389 GodH430 is goodH2896 to IsraelH3478, to those who are pureH1249 in heartH3824.2But as for meH589, my feetH7272 had almostH4592 stumbledH5186; my stepsH838 had nearlyH369 slippedH8210.3ForH3588 I enviedH7065 the arrogantH1984 when I sawH7200 the prosperityH7965 of the wickedH7563.
4They have noH369 struggleH2784 in their deathH4194;their bodiesH193 are well-fedH1277.5They are freeH369 of the burdensH5999 others carryH582;they are notH3808 afflictedH5060 likeH5973 other menH120.6ThereforeH3651 prideH1346 is their necklaceH6059;a garmentH7897 of violenceH2555 coversH5848 them.7From their prosperityH2459 proceedsH3318 iniquityH5869;1the imaginationsH4906 of their heartsH3824 run wildH5674.8They mockH4167 and speakH1696 with maliceH7451;with arroganceH4791 they threatenH1696 oppressionH6233.9They setH8371 their mouthsH6310 against the heavensH8064,and their tonguesH3956 strutH1980 across the earthH776.
10SoH3651 their peopleH59712 returnH7725 to this placeH1988and drink upH4680 watersH4325 in abundanceH4392.11The wicked sayH559, “HowH349 can GodH410H3426 knowH3045?Does the Most HighH5945 have knowledgeH1844?”12BeholdH2009, theseH428 are the wickedH7563—alwaysH5769 carefreeH7961 as they increaseH7685 their wealthH2428.
13SurelyH389 in vainH7385 I have kept my heart pureH2135H3824;in innocenceH5356 I have washedH7364 my handsH3709.14For I amH1961 afflictedH5060 all day longH3605H3117and punished every morningH8433H1242.15IfH518 I had saidH559, “I will speakH5608 this wayH3644,”thenH2009 I would have betrayedH898 Your childrenH1755H1121.16When I triedH2803 to understandH3045 all thisH2063,itH1931 was troublesomeH5999 in my sightH586917untilH5704 I enteredH935H413 God’sH410 sanctuaryH4720;then I discernedH995 their endH319.
18SurelyH389 You setH7896 them on slick groundH2513;You cast them downH5307 into ruinH4876.19HowH349 suddenlyH7281 they areH1961 laid wasteH8047,completelyH8552 swept awayH5486 byH4480 terrorsH1091!20Like one wakingH6974 from a dreamH2472,so You, O LordH136, awakenH5782 and despiseH959 their formH6754.
21WhenH3588 my heartH3824 was grievedH2556and I was piercedH8150 withinH3629,22I wasH589 senselessH1198 andH3808 ignorantH3045;I wasH1961 a brute beastH929 before YouH5973.
23Yet IH589 am alwaysH8548 with YouH5973;You holdH270 my rightH3225 handH3027.24You guide meH5148 with Your counselH6098,and laterH310 receive meH3947 in gloryH3519.25Whom have IH4310 in heaven but YouH8064?And on earthH776 I desireH2654 no oneH3808 besides YouH5973.26My fleshH7607 and my heartH3824 may failH3615,but GodH430 is the strengthH66973 of my heartH3824and my portionH2506 foreverH5769.
