Psalms 37
(1 Kings 2:1–9)
Of David. This psalm is an acrostic poem, each stanza beginning with the successive letters of the Hebrew alphabet.
Do notH408 fret overH2734 those who do evilH7489;do notH408 envyH7065 those who doH6213 wrongH5766.2ForH3588 they witherH5243 quicklyH4120 like grassH2682and wiltH5034 like tenderH3418 plantsH1877.3TrustH982 in the LORDH3068 and doH6213 goodH2896;dwellH7931 in the landH776 and cultivateH7462 faithfulnessH530.4Delight yourselfH6026 inH5921 the LORDH3068,and He will giveH5414 you the desiresH4862 of your heartH3820.
CommitH1556 your wayH1870 toH5921 the LORDH3068;trustH982 in HimH5921, and HeH1931 will do itH6213.6He will bring forthH3318 your righteousnessH6664 like the dawnH216,your justiceH4941 like the noonday sunH6672.
Be stillH1826 before the LORDH3068and wait patientlyH2342 for Him;do notH408 fretH2734 when men prosperH6743 in their waysH1870,when they carry outH6213 wicked schemesH4209.
RefrainH7503 from angerH639 and abandonH5800 wrathH2534;do notH408 fretH2734—it can onlyH389 bring harmH7489.9ForH3588 the evildoersH7489 will be cut offH3772,but those who hopeH6960 in the LORDH3068H1992 will inheritH3423 the landH776.
Yet a little whileH5750H4592, and the wickedH7563 will be no moreH369;though you lookH995 for themH5921, they will not be foundH4725H369.11But the meekH6035 will inheritH3423 the landH7761and delightH6026 inH5921 abundantH7230 prosperityH7965.
The wickedH7563 schemeH2161 against the righteousH6662and gnashH2786 their teethH8127 at themH5921,13but the LordH136 laughsH7832,seeingH7200 thatH3588 their dayH3117 is comingH935.
The wickedH7563 have drawnH6605 the swordH2719and bentH1869 the bowH7198to bring downH5307 the poorH6041 and needyH34,to slayH2873 those whose waysH1870 are uprightH3477.15But their swordsH2719 will pierceH935 their own heartsH3820,and their bowsH7198 will be brokenH7665.
BetterH2896 is the littleH4592 of the righteousH6662than the abundanceH1995 of manyH7227 who are wickedH7563.17ForH3588 the armsH2220 of the wickedH7563 will be brokenH7665,but the LORDH3068 upholdsH5564 the righteousH6662.
The LORDH3068 knowsH3045 the daysH3117 of the blamelessH8549,and their inheritanceH5159 will last foreverH1961H5769.19In the timeH6256 of evilH7451 they will notH3808 be ashamedH954,and in the daysH3117 of famineH7459 they will be satisfiedH7646.
ButH3588 the wickedH7563 and enemiesH341 of the LORDH3068will perishH6 like the gloryH3368 of the fieldsH3733.They will vanishH3615;like smokeH6227 they will fade awayH3615.
The wickedH7563 borrowH3867 and do notH3808 repayH7999,but the righteousH6662 are graciousH2603 and givingH5414.22SurelyH3588 those He blessesH1288 will inheritH3423 the landH776,but the cursedH7043 will be destroyedH3772.
The stepsH4703 of a manH1397 are orderedH3559 by the LORDH3068who takes delightH2654 in his journeyH1870.24ThoughH3588 he fallsH5307, he will notH3808 be overwhelmedH2904,forH3588 the LORDH3068 is holdingH5564 his handH3027.2
I once wasH1961 youngH5288 and nowH1571 am oldH2204,yet neverH3808 have I seenH7200 the righteousH6662 abandonedH5800or their childrenH2233 beggingH1245 for breadH3899.26They areH3605 everH3117 generousH2603 and quick to lendH3867,and their childrenH2233 are a blessingH1293.
Turn awayH5493 from evilH7451 and doH6213 goodH2896,so that you will abideH7931 foreverH5769.28ForH3588 the LORDH3068 lovesH157 justiceH4941and will notH3808 forsakeH5800 His saintsH2623.They are preservedH8104 foreverH5769,but the offspringH2233 of the wickedH7563 will be cut offH3772.29The righteousH6662 will inheritH3423 the landH776and dwellH7931 in itH5921 foreverH5703.
The mouthH6310 of the righteous manH6662 uttersH1897 wisdomH2451,and his tongueH3956 speaksH1696 justiceH4941.31The lawH8451 of his GodH430 is in his heartH3820;his stepsH838 do notH3808 falterH4571.
Though the wickedH7563 lie in waitH6822 for the righteousH6662,and seekH1245 to slay themH4191,33the LORDH3068 will notH3808 leave themH5800 in their powerH3027orH3808 let them be condemnedH7561 under judgmentH8199.
WaitH6960 forH413 the LORDH3068 and keepH8104 His wayH1870,and He will raise you upH7311 to inheritH3423 the landH776.When the wickedH7563 are cut offH3772,you will seeH7200 it.
I have seenH7200 a wickedH7563, ruthless manH6184flourishingH7488 like a well-rootedH6168 native treeH249,36yet he passed awayH5674 and was no moreH369H2009;though I searchedH1245, he could notH3808 be foundH4672.
