2Now the people of BethelH1008had sentוַיִּשְׁלַח֙vai.yish.LachH7971SharezerH8272and Regem-melechH7278,along with their menוַֽאֲנָשָׁ֑יוva.'a.na.ShavH582,to pleadלְחַלּ֖וֹתle.cha.LotH2470אֶת־'et-H853beforeפְּנֵ֥יpe.NeiH6440the LORDיְהוָֽה׃Yah.wehH3068

3by askingלֵאמֹ֗ר אֶל־le.Mor 'el-H559 H413the priestsהַכֹּֽהֲנִים֙ha.ko.ha.NimH3548אֲשֶׁר֙'a.SherH834of the houseלְבֵית־le.veit-H1004of the LORDיְהוָ֣הYah.wehH3068of Hostsצְבָא֔וֹתtze.va.'otH6635,as well asוְאֶל־ve.'el-H413the prophetsהַנְּבִיאִ֖ים לֵאמֹ֑רha.ne.vi.'Im le.MorH5030 H559, “Should I weepהַֽאֶבְכֶּה֙ha.'ev.KehH1058and fastהִנָּזֵ֕רhi.na.ZerH5144in the fifthהַחֲמִשִׁ֔יha.cha.mi.ShiH2549monthבַּחֹ֣דֶשׁba.Cho.deshH2320,asכַּאֲשֶׁ֣רka.'a.SherH834I have doneעָשִׂ֔יתִי'a.Si.tiH6213theseזֶ֖הzehH2088manyכַּמֶּ֥הka.MehH4100yearsשָׁנִֽים׃ פsha.NimH8141?”

5“Askאֱמֹר֙ אֶל־'e.Mor 'el-H559 H413allכָּל־kol-H3605the peopleעַ֣ם'amH5971of the landהָאָ֔רֶץ וְאֶל־ha.'A.retz ve.'el-H776 H413and the priestsהַכֹּהֲנִ֖ים לֵאמֹ֑רha.ko.ha.Nim le.MorH3548 H559, ‘Whenכִּֽי־ki-H3588you fastedH6684and mournedוְסָפ֜וֹדve.sa.FodH5594in the fifthבַּחֲמִישִׁ֣יba.cha.mi.ShiH2549and seventh monthsוּבַשְּׁבִיעִ֗יu.va.she.vi.'IH7637for theseוְזֶה֙ve.ZehH2088seventyשִׁבְעִ֣יםshiv.'ImH7657yearsשָׁנָ֔הsha.NahH8141,was it really for Meאָֽנִי׃'A.niH589that you fastedH6684?

6And whenוְכִ֥יve.KhiH3588you were eatingתֹאכְל֖וּ וְכִ֣יto.khe.Lu ve.KhiH398 H3588and drinkingתִשְׁתּ֑וּtish.TuH8354,were you notהֲל֤וֹאha.Lo'H3808doing soהָאֹ֣כְלִ֔יםha.'O.khe.LimH859 H398simply for yourselvesהַשֹּׁתִֽים׃ha.sho.TimH8354?

9“This is whatכֹּ֥הkohH3541the LORDיְהוָ֥הYah.wehH3068of Hostsאָמַ֛ר צְבָא֖וֹת'a.Mar tze.va.'otH6635 H559saysלֵאמֹ֑רle.MorH559: ‘Administerשְׁפֹ֔טוּshe.Fo.tuH8199trueאֱמֶת֙'e.MetH571justiceמִשְׁפַּ֤טmish.PatH4941.Showעֲשׂ֖וּ'a.SuH6213loving devotionוְחֶ֣סֶדve.Che.sedH2617and compassionוְרַֽחֲמִ֔יםve.ra.cha.MimH7356toאֶת־'et-H854oneאִ֥ישׁ'ishH376anotherאָחִֽיו׃'a.ChivH251.

11But they refusedוַיְמָאֲנ֣וּvay.ma.'a.NuH3985to pay attentionלְהַקְשִׁ֔יבle.hak.ShivH7181and turnedוַיִּתְּנ֥וּvai.yi.te.NuH5414a stubbornסֹרָ֑רֶתso.Ra.retH5637shoulderכָתֵ֖ףkha.TefH3802;they stopped upהִכְבִּ֥ידוּhikh.Bi.duH3513their earsוְאָזְנֵיהֶ֖םve.'a.ze.nei.HemH241from hearingמִשְּׁמֽוֹעַ׃mi.she.Mo.a'H8085.

13Andוַיְהִ֥יvay.HiH1961just asכַאֲשֶׁר־kha.'a.Sher-H834I had calledקָרָ֖אka.Ra'H7121and they would notוְלֹ֣אve.Lo'H3808listenשָׁמֵ֑עוּsha.Me.'uH8085,soכֵּ֤ןkenH3651when they calledיִקְרְאוּ֙yik.re.'UH7121I would notוְלֹ֣אve.Lo'H3808listenאֶשְׁמָ֔ע'esh.Ma'H8085,saysאָמַ֖ר'a.MarH559the LORDיְהוָ֥הYah.wehH3068of Hostsצְבָאֽוֹת׃tze.va.'otH6635.

14But I scattered them with a whirlwindוְאֵ֣סָעֲרֵ֗םve.'E.sa.'a.RemH5590amongעַ֤ל'alH5921allכָּל־kol-H3605the nationsהַגּוֹיִם֙ha.go.YimH1471thatאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834they had notלֹֽא־lo'-H3808knownיְדָע֔וּםye.da.'UmH3045,and the landוְהָאָ֙רֶץ֙ve.ha.'A.retzH776was left desolateנָשַׁ֣מָּהna.Sha.mahH8074behind themאַֽחֲרֵיהֶ֔ם'a.cha.rei.HemH310so that no one could comeמֵֽעֹבֵ֖רme.'o.VerH5674or goוּמִשָּׁ֑בu.mi.ShavH7725.Thus they turnedוַיָּשִׂ֥ימוּvai.ya.Si.muH7760the pleasantחֶמְדָּ֖הchem.DahH2532landאֶֽרֶץ־'e.retz-H776into a desolationלְשַׁמָּֽה׃ פle.sha.MahH8047.”
