14Afterלִקְבֹּ֣ר אַחֲרֵ֖יlik.Bor 'a.cha.ReiH310 H6912אֶת־'et-H853Josephיוֹסֵ֤ףyo.SefH3130had buriedקָבְר֥וֹka.ve.RoH6912אֶת־'et-H853his fatherאָבִ֑יו'a.VivH1,he returnedוַיָּ֨שָׁבvai.Ya.shovH7725to Egyptמִצְרַ֙יְמָה֙ ה֣וּאmitz.Ray.mah hu'H4714 H1931with his brothersוְאֶחָ֔יוve.'e.ChavH251and allוְכָל־ve.kholH3605who had goneהָעֹלִ֥יםha.'o.LimH5927with himאִתּ֖וֹ'i.ToH854to bury his fatherאָבִֽיו׃'a.VivH1.

15When Joseph’sיוֹסֵף֙yo.SefH3130brothersאֲחֵֽי־'a.chei-H251sawוַיִּרְא֤וּvai.yir.'UH7200thatכִּי־ki-H3588their fatherאֲבִיהֶ֔ם'a.vi.HemH1was deadמֵ֣תmetH4191,they saidוַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּvai.Yo.me.RuH559, “What ifל֥וּluH3863Josephיוֹסֵ֑ףyo.SefH3130bears a grudgeיִשְׂטְמֵ֖נוּyis.te.Me.nuH7852?Then he will surely repayH7725usאֵ֚ת'etH853for allכָּל־kol-H3605the evilהָ֣רָעָ֔הha.ra.'AhH7451thatאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834we didגָּמַ֖לְנוּga.Mal.nuH1580to himאֹתֽוֹ׃'o.ToH853.”

16So they sent wordוַיְצַוּ֕וּvay.tza.VuH6680toאֶל־'el-H413Josephיוֹסֵ֖ףyo.SefH3130,sayingלֵאמֹ֑רle.MorH559, “Beforeלִפְנֵ֥יlif.NeiH6440he diedמוֹת֖וֹ לֵאמֹֽר׃mo.To le.MorH4194 H559,your fatherאָבִ֣יךָ'a.Vi.khaH1commandedצִוָּ֔הtzi.VahH6680,

17‘This is whatכֹּֽה־koh-H3541you are to sayתֹאמְר֣וּto.me.RuH559to Josephלְיוֹסֵ֗ףle.yo.SefH3130:I beg youאָ֣נָּ֡א'a.Na'H577,pleaseנָ֠אna'H4994forgiveשָׂ֣אsa'H5375the transgressionפֶּ֣שַׁעPe.sha'H6588and sinוְחַטָּאתָם֙ve.cha.ta.TamH2403of your brothersאַחֶ֤יךָ'a.Chei.khaH251,forכִּי־ki-H3588they didגְמָל֔וּךָge.ma.Lu.khaH1580you wrongרָעָ֣הra.'AhH7451.’So nowוְעַתָּה֙ve.'a.TahH6258, Joseph,pleaseנָ֔אNa'H4994forgiveשָׂ֣אsa'H5375the transgressionלְפֶ֥שַׁעle.Fe.sha'H6588of the servantsעַבְדֵ֖י'av.DeiH5650of the Godאֱלֹהֵ֣י'e.lo.HeiH430of your fatherאָבִ֑יךָ'a.Vi.khaH1.”When their messageבְּדַבְּרָ֥םbe.da.be.RamH1696came to himאֵלָֽיו׃'e.LavH413,Josephיוֹסֵ֖ףyo.SefH3130weptוַיֵּ֥בְךְּvai.Ye.vekH1058.

18His brothersאֶחָ֔יו'e.ChavH251alsoגַּם־gam-H1571came to himוַיֵּלְכוּ֙vai.ye.le.KhuH1980,bowed downוַֽיִּפְּל֖וּvai.yi.pe.LuH5307before himלְפָנָ֑יוle.fa.NavH6440,and saidוַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּ הִנֶּ֥נּֽוּvai.Yo.me.Ru hi.Ne.nuH559 H2009, “We are your slavesלַעֲבָדִֽים׃la.'a.va.DimH5650!”

19But Josephיוֹסֵ֖ףyo.SefH3130repliedוַיֹּ֧אמֶר אֲלֵהֶ֛םvai.Yo.mer 'a.le.HemH559 H413, “Do notאַל־'al-H408be afraidתִּירָ֑אוּ כִּ֛יti.Ra.'u kiH3372 H3588.Am Iאָֽנִי׃'A.niH589in the place ofהֲתַ֥חַתha.Ta.chatH8478Godאֱלֹהִ֖ים'E.lo.HimH430?

20As for youוְאַתֶּ֕םve.'a.TemH859,what you intendedחֲשַׁבְתֶּ֥םcha.shav.TemH2803against meעָלַ֖י'a.LaiH5921for evilרָעָ֑הra.'AhH7451,Godאֱלֹהִים֙'E.lo.HimH430intendedחֲשָׁבָ֣הּcha.sha.VahH2803for goodלְטֹבָ֔הle.to.VahH2896,in order toלְמַ֗עַןle.Ma.'anH4616accomplishעֲשֹׂ֛ה'a.SohH6213a dayכַּיּ֥וֹםkai.YomH3117like thisהַזֶּ֖הha.ZehH2088—to preserve the livesלְהַחֲיֹ֥תle.ha.cha.YotH2421of manyרָֽב׃RavH7227peopleעַם־'am-H5971.

21Thereforeוְעַתָּה֙ve.'a.TahH6258do notאַל־'al-H408be afraidתִּירָ֔אוּti.Ra.'uH3372.Iאָנֹכִ֛י'a.no.KhiH595will provide forאֲכַלְכֵּ֥ל'a.khal.KelH3557youאֶתְכֶ֖ם'et.KhemH853וְאֶֽת־ve.'EtH853and your little onesטַפְּכֶ֑םta.pe.KhemH2945.”So Joseph reassuredוַיְנַחֵ֣םvay.na.ChemH5162his brothersאוֹתָ֔ם'o.TamH853and spokeוַיְדַבֵּ֖רvay.da.BerH1696kindly to themעַל־ לִבָּֽם׃'al- li.BamH5921 H3820.
