1When Jacobיַעֲקֹ֔בya.'a.KoH3290learnedוַיַּ֣רְאvai.Yar'H7200thatכִּ֥יkiH3588there wasיֶשׁ־yesh-H3426grainשֶׁ֖בֶרShe.verH7668in Egyptבְּמִצְרָ֑יִםbe.mitz.Ra.yimH4714,heיַעֲקֹב֙ya.'a.KoH3290saidוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to his sonsלְבָנָ֔יוle.va.NavH1121, “Whyלָ֖מָּהLa.mahH4100are you staring at one anotherתִּתְרָאֽוּ׃tit.ra.'UH7200?”

2“Lookהִנֵּ֣הhi.NehH2009,”he addedוַיֹּ֕אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “I have heardשָׁמַ֔עְתִּיsha.Ma'.tiH8085thatכִּ֥יkiH3588there isיֶשׁ־yesh-H3426grainשֶׁ֖בֶרShe.verH7668in Egyptבְּמִצְרָ֑יִםbe.mitz.Ra.yimH4714.Go downרְדוּ־re.du-H3381thereשָׁ֙מָּה֙Sha.mahH8033and buyוְשִׁבְרוּ־ve.shiv.ru-H7666some for usמִשָּׁ֔םmi.ShamH8033,so that we may liveוְנִחְיֶ֖הve.nich.YehH2421and notוְלֹ֥אve.Lo'H3808dieנָמֽוּת׃na.MutH4191.”

3So tenעֲשָׂרָ֑ה'a.sa.RahH6235of Joseph’sיוֹסֵ֖ףyo.SefH3130brothersאֲחֵֽי־'a.chei-H251went downוַיֵּרְד֥וּvai.ye.re.DuH3381to buyלִשְׁבֹּ֥רlish.BorH7666grainבָּ֖רbarH1250from Egyptמִמִּצְרָֽיִם׃mi.mitz.Ra.yimH4714.

4וְאֶת־ve.'EtH853But Jacobיַעֲקֹ֖בya.'a.KoH3290did notלֹא־lo'-H3808sendשָׁלַ֥חsha.LachH7971Joseph’sיוֹסֵ֔ףyo.SefH3130brotherאֲחִ֣י'a.ChiH251Benjaminבִּנְיָמִין֙bin.ya.MinH1144withאֶת־'et-H854his brothersאֶחָ֑יו'e.ChavH251,forכִּ֣יkiH3588he saidאָמַ֔ר'a.MarH559, “I am afraid thatפֶּן־pen-H6435harmאָסֽוֹן׃'a.SonH611might befall himיִקְרָאֶ֖נּוּyik.ra.'E.nuH7122.”

5So the sonsבְּנֵ֣יbe.NeiH1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478were amongבְּת֣וֹךְbe.TokhH8432those whoוַיָּבֹ֙אוּ֙vai.ya.Vo.'uH935cameהַבָּאִ֑יםha.ba.'ImH935to buy grainלִשְׁבֹּ֖רlish.BorH7666,sinceכִּֽי־ki-H3588the famineהָרָעָ֖בha.ra.'AvH7458had also spreadהָיָ֥הha.YahH1961to the landבְּאֶ֥רֶץbe.'E.retzH776of Canaanכְּנָֽעַן׃ke.Na.'anH3667.
