1 Kings 18:17-39
17And it came to pass, when AhabH256 sawH7200 ElijahH452, that AhabH256 saidH559 unto him, Is it thou, thou troubler of IsraelH3478? 18And he answered, I have not troubledH5916 IsraelH3478; but thou, and thy father’sH1 houseH1004, in that ye have forsaken the commandmentsH4687 of Jehovah, and thou hast followed the Baalim. 19NowH6258 thereforeH6258 sendH7971, and gatherH6908 to me all IsraelH3478 unto mount CarmelH3760, and the prophetsH5030 of BaalH1168 fourH702 hundredH3967 and fiftyH2572, and the prophetsH5030 of the AsherahH842 fourH702 hundredH3967, that eatH398 at Jezebel’s tableH7979.
20So AhabH256 sentH7971 unto all the children of IsraelH3478, and gatheredH6908 the prophetsH5030 togetherH6908 unto mount CarmelH3760. 21And ElijahH452 came near unto all the peopleH5971, and saidH559, How long go ye limping between the twoH8147 sides? if Jehovah be GodH430, follow him; but if BaalH1168, then follow him. And the peopleH5971 answered him not a wordH1697. 22Then saidH559 ElijahH452 unto the peopleH5971, I, even I onlyH905, am leftH3498 a prophetH5030 of Jehovah; but Baal’s prophetsH5030 are fourH702 hundredH3967 and fiftyH2572 menH376. 23Let them therefore giveH5414 us twoH8147 bullocks; and let them chooseH977 oneH259 bullock for themselves, and cutH5408 it in pieces, and lay it on the woodH6086, and putH5414 no fireH784 under; and I will dress the other bullock, and lay it on the woodH6086, and putH5414 no fireH784 under. 24And callH7121 ye on the nameH8034 of your godH430, and I will callH7121 on the nameH8034 of Jehovah; and the GodH430 that answereth by fireH784, let him beH1961 GodH430. And all the peopleH5971 answered and saidH559, It is well spoken.
25And ElijahH452 saidH559 unto the prophetsH5030 of BaalH1168, ChooseH977 you oneH259 bullock for yourselves, and dress it firstH7223; for ye are manyH7227; and callH7121 on the nameH8034 of your godH430, but putH7760 no fireH784 under. 26And they tookH3947 the bullock which was givenH5414 them, and they dressed it, and calledH7121 on the nameH8034 of BaalH1168 from morningH1242 even until noonH6672, sayingH559, O BaalH1168, hear us. But there was no voiceH6963, nor any that answered. And they leaped about the altarH4196 which was madeH6213. 27And it came to pass at noonH6672, that ElijahH452 mocked them, and saidH559, Cry aloud; for he is a godH430: either he is musing, or he is gone aside, or he is on a journeyH1870, or peradventure he sleepeth and must beH1961 awaked. 28And they cried aloud, and cutH1413 themselves after their manner with knives and lances, till the bloodH1818 gushed out upon them. 29And it was so, when midday was past, that they prophesiedH5012 until the time of the offeringH4503 of the evening oblation; but there was neither voiceH6963, nor any to answerH6030, nor any that regarded.
30And ElijahH452 saidH559 unto all the peopleH5971, Come near unto me; and all the peopleH5971 came near unto him. And he repairedH7495 the altarH4196 of Jehovah that was thrown downH2040. 31And ElijahH452 tookH3947 twelve stonesH68, according to the numberH4557 of the tribesH7626 of the sonsH1121 of JacobH3290, unto whom the wordH1697 of Jehovah came, sayingH559, IsraelH3478 shall beH1961 thy nameH8034. 32And with the stonesH68 he builtH1129 an altarH4196 in the nameH8034 of Jehovah; and he madeH6213 a trench about the altarH4196, as great as would contain two measures of seedH2233. 33And he putH7760 the woodH6086 in order, and cutH5408 the bullock in pieces, and laid it on the woodH6086. And he said, Fill four jars with water, and pour it on the burnt-offering, and on the woodH6086. 34And he saidH559, Do it the second time; and they did it the second time. And he saidH559, Do it the thirdH8027 time; and they did it the thirdH8027 time. 35And the waterH4325 ran roundH5439 about the altarH4196; and he filledH4390 the trench alsoH1571 with waterH4325. 36And it came to pass at the time of the offeringH4503 of the evening oblation, that ElijahH452 the prophetH5030 came near, and saidH559, O Jehovah, the GodH430 of AbrahamH85, of IsaacH3327, and of IsraelH3478, let it beH1961 knownH3045 this dayH3117 that thou art GodH430 in IsraelH3478, and that I am thy servantH5650, and that I have done all these thingsH1697 at thy wordH1697. 37Hear me, O Jehovah, hear me, that this peopleH5971 may knowH3045 that thou, Jehovah, art GodH430, and that thou hast turnedH5437 their heartH3820 back again. 38Then the fireH784 of Jehovah fellH5307, and consumedH398 the burnt-offering, and the woodH6086, and the stonesH68, and the dustH6083, and lickedH3897 up the waterH4325 that was in the trench. 39And when all the peopleH5971 sawH7200 it, they fellH5307 on their facesH6440: and they saidH559, Jehovah, he is GodH430; Jehovah, he is GodH430.
