Daniel 2
Revised Version 1895
1And in the secondH8147 yearH8141 of the reignH4438 of NebuchadnezzarH5019 NebuchadnezzarH5019 dreamedH2492 dreamsH2472; and his spiritH7307 was troubledH6470, and his sleepH8142 brake from him. 2Then the kingH4428 commandedH559 to callH7121 the magiciansH2748, and the enchanters, and the sorcerersH3784, and the ChaldeansH3778, for to tellH5046 the kingH4428 his dreamsH2472. SoH7121 they cameH935 in and stoodH5975 beforeH6440 the kingH4428. 3And the kingH4428 saidH559 unto them, I have dreamedH2492 a dreamH2472, and my spiritH7307 is troubledH6470 to knowH3045 the dreamH2472. 4Then spake the ChaldeansH3778 to the kingH4428 in the Syrian language, O kingH4428, liveH2418 for everH5957: tellH1696 thy servantsH5649 the dreamH2493, and we will shew the interpretationH6591. 5The kingH4430 answeredH6032 and saidH560 to the ChaldeansH3779, The thingH4406 is gone from me: ifH2006 ye makeH3046 notH3809 knownH3046 unto me the dreamH2493 and the interpretationH6591 thereof, ye shall be cut in pieces, and your housesH1005 shall be madeH3046 a dunghill. 6But ifH2006 ye shew the dreamH2493 and the interpretationH6591 thereof, ye shall receiveH6902 of meH6925 giftsH4978 and rewardsH5023 and greatH7690 honour: therefore shew meH6925 the dreamH2493 and the interpretationH6591 thereof. 7They answeredH6032 the secondH8579 time and saidH560, Let the kingH4430 tellH560 his servantsH5649 the dreamH2493, and we will shew the interpretationH6591. 8The kingH4430 answeredH6032 and saidH560, I knowH3046 of a certain that ye would gain time, becauseH6903 ye seeH2370 the thingH4406 is gone from me. 9But ifH2006 ye makeH3046 notH3809 knownH3046 unto meH6925 the dreamH2493, there is but one lawH1882 for youH1768: for ye have prepared lying and corruptH7844 wordsH4406 to speakH560 beforeH6925 meH6925, till the time be changedH8133: therefore tellH560 meH6925 the dreamH2493, and I shall knowH3046 that ye canH1768 shew meH6925 the interpretationH6591 thereof. 10The ChaldeansH3779 answeredH6032 beforeH6925 the kingH4430, and saidH560, There is notH3809 a manH606 upon the earthH3007 that canH1768 shew the king’sH4430 matterH4406: forasmuch as noH3809 kingH4430, lord, norH3809 rulerH7990, hath askedH7593 suchH1836 a thingH4406 of anyH3606 magicianH2749, or enchanter, or ChaldeanH3779. 11And it is a rare thingH4406 that the kingH4430 requireth, and there is none otherH321 that canH1768 shew it beforeH6925 the kingH4430, exceptH3861 the godsH426, whoseH1768 dwellingH4070 is notH3809 with fleshH1321. 12For this cause the kingH4430 was angryH1149 and veryH7690 furiousH7108, and commandedH560 to destroyH7 allH3606 the wiseH2445 menH2445 of BabylonH895. 13So the decreeH1882 wentH5312 forthH5312, and the wiseH2445 menH2445 were to be slainH6992; and they sought DanielH1841 and his companions to be slainH6992. 14Then DanielH1841 returnedH8421 answer with counselH2942 and prudence to AriochH746 the captainH7229 of the king’sH4430 guard, whichH1768 was goneH5312 forthH5312 to slayH6992 the wiseH2445 menH2445 of BabylonH895; 15he answeredH6032 and saidH560 to AriochH746 the king’sH4430 captain, Wherefore is the decreeH1882 soH116 urgentH2685 from the kingH4430? Then AriochH746 madeH3046 the thingH1882 knownH3046 to DanielH1841. 16And DanielH1841 wentH5954 in, and desired of the kingH4430 that he would appoint him a time, and he would shew the kingH4430 the interpretationH6591. 17Then DanielH1841 wentH236 to his houseH1005, and madeH3046 the thingH4406 knownH3046 to HananiahH2608, MishaelH4333, and AzariahH5839, his companions: 18that they would desire mercies of the GodH426 of heavenH8065 concerning this secret; that DanielH1841 and his companions should notH3809 perishH7 with the restH7606 of the wiseH2445 menH2445 of BabylonH895. 19Then was the secret revealedH1541 unto DanielH1841 in a visionH2376 of the nightH3916. Then DanielH1841 blessedH1289 the GodH426 of heavenH8065. 20DanielH1841 answeredH6032 and saidH560, BlessedH1289 be the nameH8036 of GodH426 for everH5957 and everH5957: for wisdomH2452 and might are his: 21And he changeth the timesH2166 and the seasons: he removeth kingsH4430, and setteth up kingsH4430: he giveth wisdomH2452 unto the wiseH2445, and knowledgeH4486 to them that knowH3046 understandingH999: 22he revealeth the deepH5994 and secret things: he knoweth whatH4101 is in the darknessH2816, and the light dwelleth with him. 23I thank thee, and praiseH7624 thee, O thou GodH426 of my fathersH2, who hast givenH3052 meH3052 wisdomH2452 and might, and hast nowH3705 madeH3046 knownH3046 unto meH3052 whatH1768 weH1768 desired of thee: for thou hast madeH3046 knownH3046 unto us the king’sH4430 matterH4406. 24Therefore DanielH1841 wentH236 in unto AriochH746, whomH1768 the kingH4430 had appointedH4483 to destroyH7 the wiseH2445 menH2445 of BabylonH895: he wentH236 and saidH560 thusH3652 unto him; DestroyH7 not the wiseH2445 menH2445 of BabylonH895: bringH5954 meH6925 in beforeH6925 the kingH4430, and I will shew unto the kingH4430 the interpretationH6591. 25Then AriochH746 broughtH5954 in DanielH1841 beforeH6925 the kingH4430 in hasteH927, and saidH560 thusH3652 unto him, I have foundH7912 a manH1400 of the childrenH1123 of the captivity of JudahH3061, that will makeH3046 knownH3046 unto the kingH4430 the interpretationH6591. 26The kingH4430 answeredH6032 and saidH560 to DanielH1841, whoseH1768 nameH8036 was BelteshazzarH1096, Art thou ableH3546 to makeH3046 knownH3046 unto me the dreamH2493 whichH1768 I have seenH2370, and the interpretationH6591 thereof? 27DanielH1841 answeredH6032 beforeH6925 the kingH4430, and saidH560, The secret whichH1768 the kingH4430 hath demandedH560 canH1768 neitherH3809 wiseH2445 menH2445, enchanters, magiciansH2749, norH3809 soothsayers, shew unto the kingH4430; 28but there is a GodH426 in heavenH8065 that revealeth secrets, and he hath madeH3046 knownH3046 to the kingH4430 NebuchadnezzarH5020 whatH4101 shall be in the latterH320 daysH3118. Thy dreamH2493, and the visionsH2376 of thy headH7217 upon thy bedH4903, are theseH1836: 29as for thee, O kingH4430, thy thoughtsH7476 came into thy mind upon thy bedH4903, whatH4101 should come to pass hereafter: and he that revealeth secrets hath madeH3046 knownH3046 to thee whatH4101 shall come to pass. 30But as for me, this secret is notH3809 revealedH1541 to me for anyH3606 wisdomH2452 that I have moreH4481 thanH4481 anyH3606 livingH2417, but to the intent that the interpretationH6591 may be madeH3046 knownH3046 to the kingH4430, and that thou mayest knowH3046 the thoughtsH7476 of thy heartH3825. 31Thou, O kingH4430, sawest, and beholdH431 a greatH7229 imageH6755. This imageH6755, which was mighty, and whose brightnessH2122 was excellent, stoodH6966 beforeH6903 thee; and the aspect thereof was terrible. 32As for this imageH6755, his headH7217 was of fineH2869 goldH1722, his breastH2306 and his armsH1872 of silverH3702, his bellyH4577 and his thighsH3410 of brass, 33his legsH8243 of ironH6523, his feetH7271 partH4481 of ironH6523, and partH4481 of clayH2635. 34Thou sawest till that a stoneH69 was cutH1505 outH1505 withoutH3809 handsH3028, whichH1768 smote the imageH6755 upon his feetH7271 that were of ironH6523 and clayH2635, and brake them in pieces. 35Then was the ironH6523, the clayH2635, the brass, the silverH3702, and the goldH1722, broken in pieces together, and becameH1934 like the chaffH5784 of the summerH7007 threshing-floors; and the windH7308 carriedH5376 them away, that noH3809 placeH1934 was foundH7912 for them: and the stoneH69 that smote the imageH6755 becameH1934 a greatH7229 mountainH2906, and filledH4391 the wholeH3606 earthH772. 36This is the dreamH2493; and we will tellH560 the interpretationH6591 thereof beforeH6925 the kingH4430. 37Thou, O kingH4430, art kingH4430 of kingsH4430, unto whomH1768 the GodH426 of heavenH8065 hath givenH3052 the kingdomH4437, the powerH2632, and the strengthH2632, and the gloryH3367; 38and wheresoever the childrenH1123 of menH606 dwellH1753, the beastsH2423 of the fieldH1251 and the fowls of the heavenH8065 hath he givenH3052 into thine handH3028, and hath madeH7981 thee to ruleH7981 over them allH3606: thou art the headH7217 of goldH1722. 39And afterH870 thee shall ariseH6966 anotherH317 kingdomH4437 inferiorH772 to thee; and anotherH317 thirdH8523 kingdomH4437 of brass, whichH1768 shall bear ruleH7981 over allH3606 the earthH772. 40And the fourthH7244 kingdomH4437 shall be strongH8624 as ironH6523: forasmuch as ironH6523 breaketh in piecesH7490 and subdueth allH3606 things: and as ironH6523 that crusheth allH3606 theseH459, shall it breakH7490 in piecesH7490 and crushH1855. 41And whereas thou sawest the feetH7271 and toesH677, partH4481 of potters’ clayH2635, and partH4481 of ironH6523, it shall be a dividedH6386 kingdomH4437; but there shall be in it of the strength of the ironH6523, forasmuch as thou sawest the ironH6523 mixedH6151 with miry clayH2635. 42And as the toesH677 of the feetH7271 were partH4481 of ironH6523, and partH4481 of clayH2635, soH4481 the kingdomH4437 shall be partlyH4481 strongH8624, and partlyH4481 broken. 43And whereas thou sawest the ironH6523 mixedH6151 with miry clayH2635, they shall mingle themselves with the seedH2234 of menH606; but they shall notH3809 cleave one to anotherH1836, evenH1768 as ironH6523 doth notH3809 mingle with clayH2635. 44And in the daysH3118 of thoseH1768 kingsH4430 shall the GodH426 of heavenH8065 setH6966 up a kingdomH4437, whichH1768 shall never be destroyedH2255, norH3809 shall the sovereigntyH4437 thereof be leftH7662 to anotherH321 peopleH5972; but it shall break in pieces and consume allH3606 theseH459 kingdomsH4437, and it shall standH6966 for everH5957. 45Forasmuch as thou sawest that a stoneH69 was cutH1505 outH1505 of the mountainH2906 withoutH3809 handsH3028, and that it brake in pieces the ironH6523, the brass, the clayH2635, the silverH3702, and the goldH1722; the greatH7229 GodH426 hath madeH3046 knownH3046 to the kingH4430 whatH4101 shall come to pass hereafter: and the dreamH2493 is certain, and the interpretationH6591 thereof sureH3330. 46Then the kingH4430 NebuchadnezzarH5020 fellH5308 upon his faceH600, and worshipped DanielH1841, and commandedH560 that they should offer an oblation and sweet odours unto him. 47The kingH4430 answeredH6032 unto DanielH1841, and saidH560, Of a truth your GodH426 is the GodH426 of godsH426, and the LordH4756 of kingsH4430, and a revealerH1541 of secrets, sing thou hast been ableH3202 to revealH1541 this secret. 48Then the kingH4430 madeH7981 DanielH1841 greatH7229, and gaveH3052 him manyH7690 greatH7229 giftsH4978, and madeH7981 him to ruleH7981 over the wholeH3606 provinceH4083 of BabylonH895, and to be chiefH7229 governor over allH3606 the wiseH2445 menH2445 of BabylonH895. 49And DanielH1841 requestedH1156 of the kingH4430, and he appointedH4483 ShadrachH7715, MeshachH4336, and Abed-negoH5665, over the affairs of the provinceH4083 of BabylonH895: but DanielH1841 was in the gate of the kingH4430.
