1 Samuel 1:8-18
8Then ElkanahH511 her husbandH376 would sayH559 to her, “HannahH2584, whyH4100 do you weepH1058, and whyH4100 do you not eatH398, and whyH4100 isH7489 your heartH3824 sadH7489? 1Am I not betterH2896 to you thanH4480 tenH6235 sonsH1121?”
9Then HannahH2584 gotH6965 upH6965 afterH310 eatingH398 and drinkingH8354 in ShilohH7887. Now EliH5941 the priestH3548 was sittingH3427 on the seatH3678 by the doorpostH4201 of 2the 3templeH1964 of the LordH3068. 10She, 4greatlyH4751 distressedH4751, prayedH6419 to the LordH3068 and weptH1058 bitterlyH1058. 11And she 5madeH5087 a vowH5088 and saidH559, “LordH3068 of armiesH6635, ifH518 You will indeedH7200 6lookH7200 on the afflictionH6040 of Your bond-servantH519 and rememberH2142 me, and not forgetH7911 Your bond-servantH519, but will giveH5414 Your bond-servantH519 a 7sonH2233H376, then I will giveH5414 him to the LordH3068 allH3605 the daysH3117 of his lifeH2425, and 8a razorH4177 shall neverH3808 comeH5927 on his headH7218.”
12Now it cameH1961 aboutH1961, as she 9continuedH7235 prayingH6419 beforeH6440 the LordH3068, that EliH5941 was watchingH8104 her mouthH6310. 13As for HannahH2584, 10she was speakingH1696 in her heartH3820, onlyH7534 her lipsH8193 were quiveringH5128, but her voiceH6963 was not heardH8085. So EliH5941 thoughtH2803 that she was drunkH7910. 14Then EliH5941 saidH559 to her, “11HowH4970 longH5704H4970 will you behaveH7937 likeH7937 aH7937 drunkH7937? GetH5493 ridH5493 of your wineH3196!” 15But HannahH2584 answeredH6030 and saidH559, “NoH369, my lordH113, I am a womanH802 12despairingH7186 in spiritH7307; I have drunkH8354 neitherH3808 wineH3196 norH3808 strongH7941 drinkH7941, but I 13have pouredH8210 outH8210 my soulH5315 beforeH6440 the LordH3068. 16Do not 14considerH5414 your bond-servantH519 a uselessH1100 womanH1323, for I have spokenH1696 untilH5704 nowH2008 out of my greatH7230 concernH7879 and provocationH3708.” 17Then EliH5941 answeredH6030 and saidH559, “15GoH1980 in peaceH7965; and may the GodH430 of IsraelH3478 16grantH5414 your requestH7596 that you have askedH7592 of Him.” 18She saidH559, “17Let your bond-servantH8198 findH4672 favorH2580 in your sightH5869.” So the womanH802 wentH1980 on her wayH1870 and ateH398, and 18her faceH6440 was noH3808 longerH5750 sad.
