Ahijah’s Prophecy against Jeroboam

1At thatH1931 timeH6256 AbijahH29 sonH1121 of JeroboamH3379 became illH2470, 2and JeroboamH3379 saidH559 to his wifeH802, “NowH4994 get upH6965, disguise yourselfH8138 so they will notH3808 recognizeH3045 youH859 as my wifeH802H3379, and goH1980 to ShilohH7887. ForH2009 AhijahH281 the prophetH5030 is thereH8033; it was heH1931 who spokeH1696 about myH5921 kingshipH4428 overH5921 thisH2088 peopleH5971. 3TakeH3947 with youH3027 tenH6235 loaves of breadH3899, some cakesH5350, and a jarH1228 of honeyH1706, and goH935 to himH413. HeH1931 will tellH5046 you whatH4100 will becomeH1961 of the boyH5288.”

4Jeroboam’sH3379 wifeH802 didH6213 asH3651 instructed; she aroseH6965 and wentH1980 to ShilohH7887 and arrivedH935 at Ahijah’sH281 houseH1004. Now AhijahH281 couldH3201 notH3808 seeH7200, forH3588 his eyesH5869 were dimH6965 because of his ageH7869. 5But the LORDH3068 had saidH559 toH413 AhijahH281, “BeholdH2009, the wifeH802 of JeroboamH3379 is comingH935 to askH1875H1697 youH5973 aboutH413 her sonH1121, forH3588 heH1931 is illH2470. You are to sayH1696 suchH2090 and suchH2088 to herH413, becauseH1961 when she arrivesH935, sheH1931 will be disguisedH5234.”

6SoH1961 when AhijahH281 heardH8085 the soundH6963 of her feetH7272 enteringH935 the doorH6607, he saidH559, “Come inH935, wifeH802 of JeroboamH3379! WhyH4100H2088 are youH859 disguisedH5234? For IH595 have been sentH7971 to youH413 with badH7186 news. 7GoH1980, tellH559 JeroboamH3379 that this is whatH3541 the LORDH3068, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, saysH559H3282: ‘I raised you upH7311 from amongH8432 the peopleH5971 and appointed youH5414 rulerH5057 overH5921 My peopleH5971 IsraelH3478. 8I tore the kingdomH4467 awayH7167 from the houseH1004 of DavidH1732 and gave itH5414 to you. But you have not beenH1961H3808 like My servantH5650 DavidH1732, whoH834 keptH8104 My commandmentsH4687 andH834 followed MeH1980H310 with allH3605 his heartH3824, doingH6213 onlyH7535 what was rightH3477 in My eyesH5869.

9You have doneH6213 more evilH7489 than allH3605 whoH834 cameH1961 before youH6440. You have proceededH1980 to makeH6213 for yourself otherH312 godsH430 and molten imagesH4541 to provokeH3707 MeH853, and you have flung MeH7993 behindH310 your backH1458. 10Because of all thisH3651, beholdH2005, I am bringingH935 disasterH7451 onH413 the houseH1004 of JeroboamH3379:

I will cut offH3772 from JeroboamH3379 every maleH8366H7023,1both slaveH6113 and freeH5800,in IsraelH3478;I will burn upH1197H310 the houseH1004 of JeroboamH3379asH834 one burns upH1197 dungH1557 untilH5704 it is goneH8552!11Anyone belonging to JeroboamH3379 who diesH4191 in the cityH5892will be eatenH398 by dogsH3611,and anyone who diesH4191 in the fieldH7704will be eatenH398 by the birdsH5775 of the airH8064.’ForH3588 the LORDH3068 has spokenH1696.

12As for youH859, get upH6965 and goH1980 homeH1004. When your feetH7272 enterH935 the cityH5892, the childH3206 will dieH4191. 13AllH3605 IsraelH3478 will mournH5594 for him and buryH6912 himH853. ForH3588 thisH2088 is the only oneH905 belonging to JeroboamH3379 who will receive a proper burialH935H413H6913,2 becauseH3282 only in him has the LORDH3068, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, foundH4672 anyH1697 goodH2896H413 in the houseH1004 of JeroboamH3379.

14Moreover, the LORDH3068 will raise upH6965 for Himself a kingH4428 overH5921 IsraelH3478 whoH834 will cut offH3772 the houseH1004 of JeroboamH3379. ThisH2088 is the dayH3117—yes, evenH1571 todayH6258! 15For the LORDH3068 will strikeH5221 IsraelH3478 asH834 a reedH7070 is shakenH5110 in the waterH4325. He will uprootH5428 IsraelH3478 fromH5921 thisH2063 goodH2896 landH127 thatH834 He gaveH5414 their fathersH1, and He will scatter themH2219 beyondH5676 the EuphratesH5104,3 becauseH3282 they have madeH6213 their Asherah polesH842, provokingH3707 the LORD to angerH3068. 16So He will giveH5414 Israel overH3478 on accountH1558 of the sinsH2403 JeroboamH3379 has committedH2398 and has caused IsraelH3478 to commitH2398.”

17Then Jeroboam’sH3379 wifeH802 got upH6965 and departedH1980 forH935 TirzahH8656, and as soon as sheH1931 stepped overH935 the thresholdH5592 of the houseH1004, the boyH5288 diedH4191. 18And they buriedH6912 himH853, and allH3605 IsraelH3478 mournedH5594 for him, according to the wordH1697 thatH834 the LORDH3068 had spokenH1696 throughH3027 His servantH5650 AhijahH281 the prophetH5030.

Nadab Succeeds Jeroboam

19As for the restH3499 of the actsH1697 of JeroboamH3379, howH834 he waged warH3898 and howH834 he reignedH4427, they are indeedH2009 writtenH3789 inH5921 the BookH5612 of the ChroniclesH1697H3117 of the KingsH4428 of IsraelH3478.

20And the lengthH3117 of Jeroboam’sH3379 reignH4427 was twenty-twoH6242H8147 yearsH8141, and he restedH7901 withH5973 his fathersH1, and his sonH1121 NadabH5070 reignedH4427 in his placeH8478.

Rehoboam Reigns in Judah

(2 Chronicles 12:13–14)

21Meanwhile, RehoboamH7346 sonH1121 of SolomonH8010 reignedH4427 in JudahH3063. He was forty-oneH705H259 yearsH8141 oldH1121 when he became kingH4427, and he reignedH4427 seventeenH7651H6240 yearsH8141 in JerusalemH3389, the cityH5892 the LORDH3068 had chosenH977 from allH3605 the tribesH7626 of IsraelH3478 in whichH834 to putH7760 His NameH8034H8033. His mother’sH517 nameH8034 was NaamahH5279 the AmmoniteH5984.

22And JudahH3063 didH6213 evilH7451 in the sightH5869 of the LORDH3068, and by the sinsH2403 they committedH2398 they provoked Him to jealous angerH7065 more than allH3605 their fathersH1 had doneH6213. 23TheyH1992 alsoH1571 builtH1129 for themselves high placesH1116, sacred pillarsH4676, and Asherah polesH842 onH5921 everyH3605 highH1364 hillH1389 and underH8478 everyH3605 greenH7488 treeH6086. 24There wereH1961 evenH1571 male shrine prostitutesH6945 in the landH776. They imitatedH6213 allH3605 the abominationsH8441 of the nationsH1471 the LORDH3068 had driven outH3423 beforeH6440 the IsraelitesH1121H3478.

Shishak Raids Jerusalem

(2 Chronicles 12:1–12)

In the fifthH2549 yearH8141 of Rehoboam’sH7346 reignH4428, ShishakH7895 kingH4428 of EgyptH4714 attackedH5927H5921 JerusalemH3389. 26He seizedH3947 the treasuresH214 of the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068 andH853 of the royalH4428 palaceH1004. He tookH3947 everythingH3605, includingH3947 allH3605 the goldH2091 shieldsH4043 thatH834 SolomonH8010 had madeH6213.

27Then KingH4428 RehoboamH7346 madeH6213 bronzeH5178 shieldsH4043 in their placeH8478 and committedH6485 them toH5921 the careH3027 of the captainsH8269 of the guardH7323 on dutyH8104 at the entranceH6607 to the royalH4428 palaceH1004. 28AndH1961 wheneverH1767 the kingH4428 enteredH935 the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068, the guardsH7323 would bear the shieldsH5375, and later they would return themH7725 toH413 the guardroomH7323H8372.

29As for the restH3499 of the actsH1697 of RehoboamH7346, along with allH3605 thatH834 he didH6213, are theyH1992 notH3808 writtenH3789 inH5921 the BookH5612 of the ChroniclesH1697H3117 of the KingsH4428 of JudahH3063?

30There wasH1961 warH4421 betweenH996 RehoboamH7346H996 and JeroboamH3379 throughoutH3605 their daysH3117. 31And RehoboamH7346 restedH7901 withH5973 his fathersH1 and was buriedH6912 withH5973 them in the CityH5892 of DavidH1732; his mother’sH517 nameH8034 was NaamahH5279 the AmmoniteH5984. And his sonH1121 AbijamH384 reignedH4427 in his placeH8478.
