Song of Songs 2

New American Standard Bible 2020

The Bride’s Admiration

The Groom

1“I am the 12rose of 3Sharon, The 4lily of the valleys.”

The Bride

2“Like a lily among the thorns, So is 5my darling among the 6young women.”

3“Like an 7apple tree among the trees of the forest, So is my beloved among the 8young men. In his shade I took great delight and sat down, And his 9fruit was sweet to my 10taste.4He has 11brought me to his 12banquet hall, And his 13banner over me is love.5Refresh me with 14raisin cakes, Sustain me with 15apples, Because 16I am lovesick.

The Groom

617His left hand is under my head, And 18his right hand 19embraces me.”

The Bride

7“20Swear to me, you 21daughters of Jerusalem, By the 22gazelles or by the 23does of the field, 24That you will not disturb or awaken my love Until she pleases.”

8“Listen! My beloved! Behold, he is coming, Leaping 25on the mountains, Jumping on the hills!9My beloved is like a 26gazelle or a 27young 28stag. Behold, he is standing behind our wall, He is looking through the windows, He is peering 29through the lattice.

10“My beloved responded and said to me, ‘30Arise, my darling, my beautiful one, And come along.11For behold, the winter is past, The rain is over and gone.12The blossoms have already appeared in the land; The time has arrived for 31pruning the vines, And the voice of the 32turtledove has been heard in our land.

The Groom

13The 33fig tree has ripened its fruit, And the 34vines in blossom have given forth their fragrance. Arise, my darling, my beautiful one, And come along!’”

The Chorus

14“35My dove, 36in the clefts of the 37rock, In the hiding place of the mountain pathway, Let me see 38how you look, 39Let me hear your voice; For your voice is pleasant, And 40you look 41delightful.”

The Bride

15“42Catch the 43foxes for us, The 44little 45foxes that are ruining the vineyards, While our 46vineyards are in blossom.”

16“47My beloved is mine, and I am his; He 48pastures his flock among the lilies.1749Until the cool of the day, when the shadows flee, Turn, my beloved, and be like a 50gazelle Or a young stag 51on the mountains of 52Bether.”
