Song of Songs 2

New American Standard Bible 1995

The Bride’s Admiration

1“1I am the 23rose of 4Sharon, The 5lily of the valleys.”

2“6Like a lily among the thorns, So is 7my darling among the 8maidens.”

3“9Like an 1011apple tree among the trees of the forest, So is my beloved among the 12young men. In his shade I took great delight and sat down, And his 13fruit was sweet to my 14taste.4He has 15brought me to his 16banquet hall, And his 17banner over me is love.5Sustain me with 18raisin cakes, Refresh me with 1920apples, Because 21I am lovesick.6Let 22his left hand be under my head And 23his right hand 24embrace me.”

7“25I 26adjure you, O 27daughters of Jerusalem, By the 28gazelles or by the 29hinds of the field, 30That you do not arouse or awaken my love Until 31she pleases.”

8“32Listen! My beloved! Behold, he is coming, Climbing 33on the mountains, Leaping on the hills!9My beloved is like a 34gazelle or a 35young 36stag. Behold, he is standing behind our wall, He is looking through the windows, He is peering 37through the lattice.

10“My beloved responded and said to me, ‘38Arise, my darling, my beautiful one, And come along.11For behold, the winter is past, The rain is over and gone.12The flowers have already appeared in the land; The time has arrived for 39pruning the vines, And the voice of the 40turtledove has been heard in our land.13The 41fig tree has ripened its figs, And the 42vines in blossom have given forth their fragrance. Arise, my darling, my beautiful one, And come along!’”

14“43O 44my dove, 45in the clefts of the 46rock, In the secret place of the steep 47pathway, Let me see your 48form, 49Let me hear your voice; For your voice is sweet, And your 50form is 51lovely.”

15“5253Catch the foxes for us, The 54little foxes that are ruining the vineyards, While our 55vineyards are in blossom.”

16“5657My beloved is mine, and I am his; He 58pastures his flock among the lilies.1759Until 60the cool of the day when the shadows flee away, Turn, my beloved, and be like a 61gazelle Or a young stag 62on the mountains of 63Bether.”
