Mutual Delight in Each Other
The Chorus
The Bride
1“1Where has your beloved gone, O 2most beautiful among women? Where has your beloved turned, That we may seek him with you?”
2“My beloved has gone down to his 3garden, To the 4beds of balsam, To 5pasture his flock in the gardens And gather 6lilies.
The Groom
37I am my beloved’s and my beloved is mine, He who 8pastures his flock among the lilies.”
4“9You are as beautiful as 10Tirzah, my darling, As 11lovely as 12Jerusalem, As 13awesome as an army with banners.5Turn your eyes away from me, For they have confused me; 14Your hair is like a flock of goats That have descended from Gilead.615Your teeth are like a flock of ewes That have come up from their watering place, All of which bear twins, And not one among them has lost her young.716Your temples are like a slice of a pomegranate Behind your veil.8There are sixty 17queens and eighty concubines, And 1819young women without number;9But 20my dove, my perfect one, is 21unique: She is her mother’s 22only daughter; She is the pure child of the one who gave birth to her. The 2324young women saw her and called her 25blessed, The 26queens and the concubines also, and they praised her, saying,
10‘Who is this who looks down like the dawn, As beautiful as the full 27moon, As pure 28as the sun, As 29awesome as an army with banners?’11I went down to the orchard of nut trees To see the plants of the valley, To see whether 30the vine had grown Or the 31pomegranates had bloomed.
The Chorus
1232Before I was aware, my soul set me Over the chariots of 33my noble people.”
13“34Come back, come back, O Shulammite; Come back, come back, so that we may look at you!” The Groom “Why should you look at the Shulammite, As at the 35dance of 3637the two armies?
