Song of Songs 4

New American Standard Bible 2020

Solomon’s Love Expressed

1“1How beautiful 2you are, my darling, 3How beautiful you are! Your 4eyes are like doves 5behind your veil; Your 6hair is like a flock of goats That have descended from Mount 7Gilead.2Your 8teeth are like a flock of newly shorn sheep Which have come up from their watering place, All of which bear twins, And not one among them has lost her young.3Your lips are like a 9scarlet thread, And your 10mouth is beautiful. Your 11temples are like a slice of a pomegranate Behind your veil.4Your 12neck is like the tower of David, Built with layers of stones On which are 13hung a thousand shields, All the round 14shields of the warriors.5Your 15two breasts are like two fawns, Twins of a gazelle That 16graze among the lilies.617Until 18the cool of the day When the shadows flee, I will go my way to the mountain of 19myrrh And to the hill of 20frankincense.

7“21You are altogether beautiful, my darling, And there is no blemish on you.8Come with me from 22Lebanon, my 23bride, You shall come with me from Lebanon. You shall 24come down from the summit of 25Amana, From the summit of 26Senir and Hermon, From the dens of lions, From the mountains of leopards.9You have 27enchanted my heart, 28my sister, my bride; You have 29enchanted my heart with a single glance of your eyes, With a single strand of your 30necklace.1031How beautiful is your love, my sister, my bride! How much 3233sweeter is your love than wine, And the 34fragrance of your oils Than that of all kinds of balsam oils!11Your lips 35drip 36honey, my bride; Honey and milk are under your tongue, And the fragrance of your garments is like the 37fragrance of Lebanon.12A locked garden is my sister, my bride, A locked spring, a 38sealed 39fountain.13Your branches are an 4041orchard of 42pomegranates With 43delicious fruits, 44henna with nard plants,1445Nard and saffron, spice reed and 46cinnamon, With all the trees of 47frankincense, 48Myrrh, and aloes, along with all the finest balsam oils.

The Bride

15You are a garden spring, A well of 4950fresh water, And flowing streams from Lebanon.”

16“Awake, north wind, And come, wind of the south; 51Make my 52garden breathe out fragrance, May its balsam oils flow. May 53my beloved come into his garden And eat its 54delicious fruits!”
