7When Davidדָּוִ֑דda.VidH1732heardוַיִּשְׁמַ֖עvai.yish.Ma'H8085about this,he sentוַיִּשְׁלַח֙vai.yish.LachH7971Joabיוֹאָ֔בyo.'AvH3097and allכָּל־kol-H3605the armyהַצָּבָ֖אha.tza.Va'H6635,the warriorsהַגִּבֹּרִֽים׃ha.gi.bo.RimH1368.

8And the sonsבְּנֵ֣יbe.NeiH1121of Ammonעַמּ֔וֹןa.MonH5983cameH3318outH3318and linedH6186upH6186for battleמִלְחָמָ֖הmil.cha.MahH4421at the entranceפֶּ֣תַחPe.tachH6607of thecityהַשָּׁ֑עַרha.Sha.'arH8179,while the Arameansוַאֲרַ֨םva.'a.RamH758of Zobahצוֹבָ֤אtzo.Va'H6678and of Rehobוּרְחוֹב֙u.re.chOvH7340and the menH382ofH382TobH382and Maacahוּמַֽעֲכָ֔הu.ma.'a.KhahH4601were stationedbyH905themselvesH905in the fieldבַּשָּׂדֶֽה׃ba.sa.DehH7704.

9Now when Joabיוֹאָ֗בyo.'AvH3097sawוַיַּ֣רְאvai.Yar'H7200thatthe battleפְּנֵ֣י הַמִּלְחָמָ֔הpe.Nei ha.mil.cha.MahH6440 H4421was set againstאֵלָיו֙'e.LavH413him at the frontמִפָּנִ֖יםmi.pa.NimH6440and at the rearוּמֵֽאָח֑וֹרu.me.'a.ChorH268,he selectedH977warriorsfrom allמִכֹּל֙mi.KolH3605the choiceH977menH977in Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לbe.yis.ra.'elH3478,and linedH6186themupH6186againstלִקְרַ֥אתlik.RatH7122the Arameansאֲרָֽם׃'a.RamH758.

10But the remainderיֶ֣תֶרYe.terH3499of the peopleהָעָ֔םha.'AmH5971he placedנָתַ֕ןna.TanH5414under the commandבְּיַ֖דbe.YadH3027of his brotherאָחִ֑יו'a.ChivH251Abishaiאַבְשַׁ֣י'av.ShaiH52,and he linedH6186themupH6186againstלִקְרַ֖אתlik.RatH7122the sonsבְּנֵ֥יbe.NeiH1121of Ammonעַמּֽוֹן׃a.MonH5983.

11And he saidוַיֹּ֗אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Ifאִם־'im-H518the Arameansאֲרָם֙'a.RamH758are tooמִמֶּ֔נִּיmi.Me.niH4480strongתֶּחֱזַ֤קte.che.ZakH2388for me, then you shall helpלִֽישׁוּעָ֑הli.shu.'AhH3444me; but ifוְאִם־ve.'im-H518the sonsבְּנֵ֤יbe.NeiH1121of Ammonעַמּוֹן֙'a.mOnH5983are tooמִמְּךָ֔mi.me.KhaH4480strongיֶחֱזְק֣וּye.chez.KuH2388for you, then I will comeוְהָלַכְתִּ֖יve.ha.lakh.TiH1980to helpלְהוֹשִׁ֥יעַֽle.ho.Shi.a'H3467you.

12Be strongH2388,and let’s showH2388ourselves courageousH2388for the sakeH1157of our peopleעַמֵּ֔נוּ'a.Me.nuH5971and the citiesעָרֵ֣י'a.ReiH5892of our Godאֱלֹהֵ֑ינוּ'e.lo.Hei.nuH430; andmay the Lordוַֽיהוָ֔הva.Yah.wehH3068doיַעֲשֶׂ֥הya.'a.SehH6213whatH2896isH2896goodהַטּ֖וֹבha.TovH2896in His sightבְּעֵינָֽיו׃be.'ei.NavH5869.”

13So Joabיוֹאָ֗בyo.'AvH3097and the peopleוְהָעָם֙ve.ha.'AmH5971whoאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834were with him advancedוַיִּגַּ֣שׁvai.yi.GashH5066to the battleלַמִּלְחָמָ֖הla.mil.cha.MahH4421against the Arameansבַּֽאֲרָ֑םba.'a.RamH758, andthey fledוַיָּנֻ֖סוּvai.ya.Nu.suH5127from him.

14When the sonsוּבְנֵ֨יu.ve.NeiH1121of Ammonעַמּ֤וֹןa.MonH5983sawרָאוּ֙ra.'UH7200that the Arameansאֲרָ֔ם'a.RamH758had fledנָ֣סnasH5127, they alsofledוַיָּנֻ֙סוּ֙vai.ya.Nu.suH5127from Abishaiאֲבִישַׁ֔י'a.vi.ShaiH52and enteredוַיָּבֹ֖אוּvai.ya.Vo.'uH935the cityהָעִ֑ירha.'IrH5892.Then Joabיוֹאָ֗בyo.'AvH3097returnedוַיָּ֣שָׁבvai.Ya.shovH7725from fightingagainstמֵעַל֙me.'AlH5921the sonsבְּנֵ֣יbe.NeiH1121of Ammonעַמּ֔וֹןa.MonH5983and cameוַיָּבֹ֖אvai.ya.Vo'H935to Jerusalemיְרוּשָׁלִָֽם׃ye.ru.sha.LimH3389.
