19Nowוְעַתָּ֗הve.'a.TahH6258then, sendשְׁלַ֨חshe.LachH7971orders andgatherקְבֹ֥ץke.VotzH6908to me allכָּל־kol-H3605Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478atMountהַ֣רharH2022Carmelהַכַּרְמֶ֑לha.kar.MelH3760, togetherwith 450אַרְבַּ֧ע מֵא֣וֹת וַחֲמִשִּׁ֗ים'ar.Ba' me.'ot va.cha.mi.ShimH702H3967H2572prophetsנְבִיאֵ֨יne.vi.'EiH5030of Baalהַבַּ֜עַלha.Ba.'alH1168and fourאַרְבַּ֣ע'ar.Ba'H702hundredמֵא֔וֹתme.'otH3967prophetsוּנְבִיאֵ֤יu.ne.vi.'EiH5030ofthe Asherahהָֽאֲשֵׁרָה֙ha.'a.she.RahH842,who eatאֹכְלֵ֖י'o.khe.LeiH398at Jezebel’sאִיזָֽבֶל׃'i.Za.velH348tableשֻׁלְחַ֥ןshul.ChanH7979.”
21Then Elijahאֵלִיָּ֜הוּ'e.li.Ya.huH452approachedוַיִּגַּ֨שׁvai.yi.GashH5066allכָּל־kol-H3605the peopleהָעָ֗םha.'AmH5971and saidוַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙vai.Yo.merH559, “HowH4970longעַד־'ad-H5704H4970are you going tostruggleפֹּסְחִים֮po.se.ChimH6452with the twoשְׁתֵּ֣יshe.TeiH8147choicesH5589?Ifאִם־'im-H518the Lordיְהוָ֤הYah.wehH3068is Godהָֽאֱלֹהִים֙ha.'E.lo.HimH430,followלְכ֣וּ אַחֲרָ֔יוle.Khu 'a.cha.RavH1980H310Him; but ifוְאִם־ve.'im-H518Baalהַבַּ֖עַלha.Ba.'alH1168,followלְכ֣וּ אַחֲרָ֑יוle.Khu 'a.cha.RavH1980H310him.” But the peopleהָעָ֛םha.'AmH5971did not answerעָנ֥וּ'a.NuH6030him so much asa wordדָּבָֽר׃da.VarH1697.
22Then Elijahאֵלִיָּ֙הוּ֙'e.li.Ya.huH452saidוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to the peopleהָעָ֔םha.'AmH5971, “Ialoneלְבַדִּ֑יle.va.DiH905am leftנוֹתַ֧רְתִּיno.Tar.tiH3498as a prophetנָבִ֛יאna.Vi'H5030of the Lordלַיהוָ֖הla.Yah.wehH3068,while Baal’sהַבַּ֔עַלha.Ba.'alH1168prophetsוּנְבִיאֵ֣יu.ne.vi.'EiH5030are450אַרְבַּע־ מֵא֥וֹת וַחֲמִשִּׁ֖ים'ar.ba'- me.'ot va.cha.mi.ShimH702H3967H2572menאִֽישׁ׃'IshH376.
23Now have them giveוְיִתְּנוּ־ve.yi.te.nu-H5414us twoשְׁנַ֣יִםshe.Na.yimH8147oxenפָּרִ֗יםpa.RimH6499;and have them chooseוְיִבְחֲר֣וּve.yiv.cha.RuH977the oneהָאֶחָ֜דha.'e.ChadH259oxהַפָּ֨רha.ParH6499for themselves and cutוִֽינַתְּחֻ֗הוּvi.na.te.Chu.huH5408it upH5408,and placeוְיָשִׂ֙ימוּ֙ve.ya.Si.muH7760it on the woodהָ֣עֵצִ֔יםha.'e.TzimH6086,but putיָשִׂ֑ימוּya.Si.muH7760noH3808fireוְאֵ֖שׁve.'EshH784under it;and I will prepareאֶעֱשֶׂ֣ה׀'e.'e.SehH6213the otherהָאֶחָ֗דha.'e.ChadH259oxהַפָּ֣רha.ParH6499and layוְנָֽתַתִּי֙ve.na.ta.TiH5414it on the woodהָ֣עֵצִ֔יםha.'e.TzimH6086,and I will not putאָשִֽׂים׃'a.SimH7760a fireוְאֵ֖שׁve.'EshH784under it.
24Then you callוּקְרָאתֶ֞םu.ke.ra.TemH7121on the nameבְּשֵׁ֣םbe.ShemH8034of your godאֱלֹֽהֵיכֶ֗ם'e.lo.hei.KhemH430,and I will callאֶקְרָ֣א'ek.Ra'H7121on the nameבְשֵׁם־ve.shem-H8034of the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068; andthe Godהָאֱלֹהִ֛יםha.'E.lo.HimH430whoאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834answersיַעֲנֶ֥הya.'a.NehH6030by fireבָאֵ֖שׁva.'EshH784,He is Godהָאֱלֹהִ֑יםha.'E.lo.HimH430.”And allכָּל־kol-H3605the peopleהָעָ֛םha.'AmH5971repliedוַיַּ֧עַן וַיֹּאמְר֖וּvai.Ya.'an vai.yo.me.RuH6030H559, “That is a goodט֥וֹבTovH2896ideaהַדָּבָֽר׃ha.da.VarH1697.”
25So Elijahאֵלִיָּ֜הוּ'e.li.Ya.huH452saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to the prophetsלִנְבִיאֵ֣יlin.vi.'EiH5030of Baalהַבַּ֗עַלha.Ba.'alH1168, “Chooseבַּחֲר֨וּba.cha.RuH977the oneהָֽאֶחָד֙ha.'e.ChadH259oxהַפָּ֤רha.ParH6499for yourselves and prepareוַעֲשׂ֣וּva.'a.SuH6213it firstרִאשֹׁנָ֔הri.sho.NahH7223,sinceכִּ֥יkiH3588there aremanyהָרַבִּ֑יםha.ra.BimH7227ofyou, and callוְקִרְאוּ֙ve.kir.'UH7121on the nameבְּשֵׁ֣םbe.ShemH8034of your godאֱלֹהֵיכֶ֔ם'e.lo.hei.KhemH430,but putתָשִֽׂימוּ׃ta.Si.muH7760noלֹ֥אlo'H3808fireוְאֵ֖שׁve.'EshH784under the ox.”
26Then they tookוַ֠יִּקְחוּVai.yik.chuH3947the oxהַפָּ֨רha.ParH6499whichאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834was givenנָתַ֣ןna.TanH5414them and they preparedוַֽיַּעֲשׂוּ֒vai.ya.'a.SuH6213it, and they calledוַיִּקְרְא֣וּvai.yik.re.'UH7121on the nameבְשֵׁם־ve.shem-H8034of Baalהַ֠בַּעַלHa.ba.'alH1168from morningמֵהַבֹּ֨קֶרme.ha.Bo.kerH1242untilוְעַד־ve.'ad-H5704noonהַצָּהֳרַ֤יִםha.tzo.ho.Ra.yimH6672,sayingלֵאמֹר֙le.MorH559, “O Baalהַבַּ֣עַלha.Ba.'alH1168,answerעֲנֵ֔נוּ'a.Ne.nuH6030us!” But thereH369wasH369noH369voiceק֖וֹלKolH6963and noH369oneH369answeredעֹנֶ֑ה'o.NehH6030. And theylimpedוַֽיְפַסְּח֔וּvay.fa.se.ChuH6452aboutעַל־'al-H5921the altarהַמִּזְבֵּ֖חַha.miz.Be.achH4196whichאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834they had madeעָשָֽׂה׃'a.SahH6213.
27And at noonבַֽצָּהֳרַ֜יִםva.tzo.ho.Ra.yimH6672Elijahאֵלִיָּ֗הוּ'e.li.Ya.huH452ridiculedוַיְהַתֵּ֧לvay.ha.TelH2048them and saidוַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙vai.Yo.merH559, “Callקִרְא֤וּkir.'UH7121outH7121with a loudגָּדוֹל֙ga.dOlH1419voiceבְקוֹל־ve.kol-H6963,sinceH3588he is a godאֱלֹהִ֣ים'E.lo.HimH430;undoubtedlyH3588he is attendingH7879toH7879businessH7879,or is on the wayH5509,or is on a journeyדֶ֣רֶךְDe.rekhH1870.Perhapsאוּלַ֛י'u.LaiH194he is asleepיָשֵׁ֥ןya.ShenH3463,and will awakenוְיִקָֽץ׃ve.yi.KatzH3364.”
28So they criedH7121outH7121with a loudגָּד֔וֹלga.DolH1419voiceבְּק֣וֹלbe.KolH6963, andcutוַיִּתְגֹּֽדְדוּ֙vai.yit.go.de.DuH1413themselves according to their customכְּמִשְׁפָּטָ֔םke.mish.pa.TamH4941with swordsבַּחֲרָב֖וֹתba.cha.ra.VotH2719and lancesוּבָֽרְמָחִ֑יםu.va.re.ma.ChimH7420untilעַד־'ad-H5704bloodדָּ֖םdamH1818gushedH8210outH8210on them.
29When middayהַֽצָּהֳרַ֔יִםha.tzo.ho.Ra.yimH6672wasH5674pastH5674,they ravedוַיִּֽתְנַבְּא֔וּvai.yit.na.be.'UH5012untilעַ֖ד'adH5704the time of the offeringלַעֲל֣וֹתla.'a.LotH5927of the eveningsacrificeהַמִּנְחָ֑הha.min.ChahH4503;but thereH369wasH369noH369voiceק֥וֹלKolH6963,noH369oneH369answeredעֹנֶ֖ה'o.NehH6030, andnoH369oneH369paidH7182attentionקָֽשֶׁב׃Ka.shevH7182.
30Then Elijahאֵלִיָּ֤הוּ'e.li.Ya.huH452saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to allלְכָל־le.kholH3605the peopleהָעָם֙ha.'AmH5971, “ComeH5066forwardH5066to me.” So allכָל־khol-H3605the peopleהָעָ֖םha.'AmH5971cameH5066forwardH5066to him. Andhe repairedוַיְרַפֵּ֛אvay.ra.Pe'H7495the altarמִזְבַּ֥חmiz.BachH4196of the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068which had been tornהֶהָרֽוּס׃he.ha.RusH2040downH2040.
31Then Elijahאֵלִיָּ֗הוּ'e.li.Ya.huH452tookוַיִּקַּ֣חvai.yi.KachH3947twelveשְׁתֵּ֤ים עֶשְׂרֵה֙she.Teim 'es.RehH8147H6240stonesאֲבָנִ֔ים'a.va.NimH68,corresponding to the numberכְּמִסְפַּ֖רke.mis.ParH4557of the tribesשִׁבְטֵ֣יshiv.TeiH7626of the sonsבְנֵֽי־ve.nei-H1121of Jacobיַעֲקֹ֑בya.'a.KoH3290,to whomאֲשֶׁר֩'a.SherH834the wordדְבַר־de.var-H1697of the Lordיְהוָ֤הYah.wehH3068had comeH1961,sayingלֵאמֹ֔רle.MorH559, “Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478shall be your nameשְׁמֶֽךָ׃she.Me.khaH8034.”
32And with the stonesהָאֲבָנִ֛יםha.'a.va.NimH68he builtוַיִּבְנֶ֧הvai.yiv.NehH1129an altarמִזְבֵּ֖חַmiz.Be.achH4196inthe nameבְּשֵׁ֣םbe.ShemH8034of the Lordיְהוָ֑הYah.wehH3068;and he madeוַיַּ֣עַשׂvai.Ya.'asH6213a trenchתְּעָלָ֗הte.'a.LahH8585aroundסָבִ֖יבsa.VivH5439the altarלַמִּזְבֵּֽחַ׃la.miz.Be.achH4196,largeH1004enoughH1004to holdH1004twomeasuresסָאתַ֣יִםsa.Ta.yimH5429of seedזֶ֔רַעZe.ra'H2233.
34And he saidוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Fillמִלְא֨וּmil.'UH4390fourאַרְבָּעָ֤ה'ar.ba.'AhH702largeH3537jarsכַדִּים֙kha.DimH3537with waterמַ֔יִםMa.yimH4325and pourוְיִֽצְק֥וּve.yitz.KuH3332iton the burntהָעֹלָ֖הha.'o.LahH5930offeringH5930and on the woodהָעֵצִ֑יםha.'e.TzimH6086.”And he saidוַיֹּ֥אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “DoH8138it aH8138secondH8138timeH8138,”so they didH8138it aH8138secondH8138timeH8138.Then he saidוַיֹּ֗אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “DoH8027it aH8027thirdשַׁלֵּ֖שׁוּsha.Le.shuH8027timeוַיְשַׁלֵּֽשׁוּ׃vay.sha.Le.shuH8027,”so they didH8027it aH8027thirdH8027timeH8027.

37Answerעֲנֵ֤נִי'a.Ne.niH6030me, Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068,answerעֲנֵ֔נִי'a.Ne.niH6030me, so that thisהַזֶּ֔הha.ZehH2088peopleהָעָ֣םha.'AmH5971may knowוְיֵֽדְעוּ֙ve.ye.de.'UH3045that You, Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068,are Godהָאֱלֹהִ֑יםha.'E.lo.HimH430, and thatYou have turnedהֲסִבֹּ֥תָha.si.Bo.taH5437their heartלִבָּ֖םli.BamH3820backאֲחֹרַנִּֽית׃'a.cho.ra.NitH322.”
38Then thefireאֵשׁ־'esh-H784of the Lordיְהוָ֗הYah.wehH3068fellוַתִּפֹּ֣לva.ti.PolH5307and consumedוַתֹּ֤אכַלva.To.khalH398the burntהָֽעֹלָה֙ha.'o.LahH5930offeringH5930and the woodהָ֣עֵצִ֔יםha.'e.TzimH6086,and the stonesהָאֲבָנִ֖יםha.'a.va.NimH68and the dustהֶעָפָ֑רhe.'a.FarH6083;and it lickedH3897upH3897the waterהַמַּ֥יִםha.Ma.yimH4325that was in the trenchבַּתְּעָלָ֖הba.te.'a.LahH8585.
39When allכָּל־kol-H3605the peopleהָעָ֔םha.'AmH5971sawוַיַּרְא֙vai.yaR'H7200this,they fellוַֽיִּפְּל֖וּvai.yi.pe.LuH5307on their facesפְּנֵיהֶ֑םpe.nei.HemH6440;and they saidוַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּvai.Yo.me.RuH559, “The Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068,He is Godהָאֱלֹהִ֔יםha.'E.lo.HimH430;the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068,He is Godהָאֱלֹהִֽים׃ha.'E.lo.HimH430!”
40Then Elijahאֵלִיָּ֨הוּ'e.li.Ya.huH452saidוַיֹּאמֶר֩vai.yo.MerH559to them, “Seizeתִּפְשׂ֣וּ׀tif.SuH8610the prophetsנְבִיאֵ֣יne.vi.'EiH5030of Baalהַבַּ֗עַלha.Ba.'alH1168;do not let oneאִ֛ישׁ'ishH376of them escapeיִמָּלֵ֥טyi.ma.LetH4422.”So they seizedוַֽיִּתְפְּשׂ֑וּםvai.yit.pe.SumH8610them; and Elijahאֵלִיָּ֙הוּ֙'e.li.Ya.huH452broughtH3381them downוַיּוֹרִדֵ֤םvai.yo.ri.DemH3381tothe brookנַ֣חַלNa.chalH5158Kishonקִישׁ֔וֹןki.ShonH7028,and slaughteredוַיִּשְׁחָטֵ֖םvai.yish.cha.TemH7819them thereשָֽׁם׃ShamH8033.
