20So Ahabאַחְאָ֖ב'ach.'AvH256summonedוַיִּשְׁלַ֥חvai.yish.LachH7971allבְּכָל־be.kholH3605the Israelitesבְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑לbe.Nei Yis.ra.'ElH1121H3478and assembledוַיִּקְבֹּ֥ץvai.yik.BotzH6908אֶת־'et-H853the prophetsהַנְּבִיאִ֖יםha.ne.vi.'ImH5030onאֶל־'el-H413Mountהַ֥רharH2022Carmelהַכַּרְמֶֽל׃ha.kar.MelH3760.

22Then Elijahאֵלִיָּ֙הוּ֙'e.li.Ya.huH452saidוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559toאֶל־'el-H413the peopleהָעָ֔םha.'AmH5971, “Iאֲנִ֞י'a.NiH589am the onlyלְבַדִּ֑יle.va.DiH905remainingנוֹתַ֧רְתִּיno.Tar.tiH3498prophetנָבִ֛יאna.Vi'H5030of the LORDלַיהוָ֖הla.Yah.wehH3068,but Baalהַבַּ֔עַלha.Ba.'alH1168hasfourאַרְבַּע־'ar.ba'-H702hundredמֵא֥וֹתme.'otH3967and fiftyוַחֲמִשִּׁ֖יםva.cha.mi.ShimH2572prophetsוּנְבִיאֵ֣י אִֽישׁ׃u.ne.vi.'Ei 'IshH5030H376.
23Getוְיִתְּנוּ־ve.yi.te.nu-H5414twoשְׁנַ֣יִםshe.Na.yimH8147bullsפָּרִ֗יםpa.RimH6499for us.Let the prophets of Baal chooseוְיִבְחֲר֣וּve.yiv.cha.RuH977oneהָאֶחָ֜דha.'e.ChadH259bullהַפָּ֨רha.ParH6499for themselves,cut it into piecesוִֽינַתְּחֻ֗הוּvi.na.te.Chu.huH5408,and placeוְיָשִׂ֙ימוּ֙ve.ya.Si.muH7760it onעַל־'al-H5921the woodהָ֣עֵצִ֔יםha.'e.TzimH6086but notלֹ֣אlo'H3808lightיָשִׂ֑ימוּya.Si.muH7760the fireוְאֵ֖שׁve.'EshH784.And Iוַאֲנִ֞יva.'a.NiH589will prepareאֶעֱשֶׂ֣ה׀'e.'e.SehH6213אֶת־'et-H853the otherהָאֶחָ֗דha.'e.ChadH259bullהַפָּ֣רha.ParH6499and placeוְנָֽתַתִּי֙ve.na.ta.TiH5414it onעַל־'al-H5921the woodהָ֣עֵצִ֔יםha.'e.TzimH6086but notלֹ֥אlo'H3808lightאָשִֽׂים׃'a.SimH7760the fireוְאֵ֖שׁve.'EshH784.
24Then you may callוּקְרָאתֶ֞םu.ke.ra.TemH7121on the nameבְּשֵׁ֣םbe.ShemH8034of your godאֱלֹֽהֵיכֶ֗ם'e.lo.hei.KhemH430,and Iוַֽאֲנִי֙va.'a.NiH589will callאֶקְרָ֣א'ek.Ra'H7121on the nameבְשֵׁם־ve.shem-H8034of the LORDיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068וְהָיָ֧הve.ha.YahH1961.The Godהָאֱלֹהִ֛יםha.'E.lo.HimH430whoאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834answersיַעֲנֶ֥הya.'a.NehH6030by fireבָאֵ֖שׁva.'EshH784,Heה֣וּאhu'H1931isGodהָאֱלֹהִ֑יםha.'E.lo.HimH430.”And allכָּל־kol-H3605the peopleהָעָ֛םha.'AmH5971answeredוַיַּ֧עַן וַיֹּאמְר֖וּvai.Ya.'an vai.yo.me.RuH559H6030, “What you sayהַדָּבָֽר׃ha.da.VarH1697is goodט֥וֹבTovH2896.”
25Then Elijahאֵלִיָּ֜הוּ'e.li.Ya.huH452saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to the prophetsלִנְבִיאֵ֣יlin.vi.'EiH5030of Baalהַבַּ֗עַלha.Ba.'alH1168, “Sinceכִּ֥יkiH3588youאַתֶּ֖ם'a.TemH859are so numerousהָרַבִּ֑יםha.ra.BimH7227,chooseבַּחֲר֨וּba.cha.RuH977for yourselvesoneהָֽאֶחָד֙ha.'e.ChadH259bullהַפָּ֤רha.ParH6499and prepareוַעֲשׂ֣וּva.'a.SuH6213it firstרִאשֹׁנָ֔הri.sho.NahH7223.Then callוְקִרְאוּ֙ve.kir.'UH7121on the nameבְּשֵׁ֣םbe.ShemH8034of your godאֱלֹהֵיכֶ֔ם'e.lo.hei.KhemH430,but do notלֹ֥אlo'H3808lightתָשִֽׂימוּ׃ta.Si.muH7760the fireוְאֵ֖שׁve.'EshH784.”
26And they tookוַ֠יִּקְחוּVai.yik.chuH3947אֶת־'et-H853the bullהַפָּ֨רha.ParH6499thatאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834was givenנָתַ֣ןna.TanH5414them,preparedוַֽיַּעֲשׂוּ֒vai.ya.'a.SuH6213it,and calledוַיִּקְרְא֣וּvai.yik.re.'UH7121on the nameבְשֵׁם־ve.shem-H8034of Baalהַ֠בַּעַלHa.ba.'alH1168from morningמֵהַבֹּ֨קֶרme.ha.Bo.kerH1242untilוְעַד־ve.'ad-H5704noonהַצָּהֳרַ֤יִםha.tzo.ho.Ra.yimH6672,shoutingלֵאמֹר֙le.MorH559, “O Baalהַבַּ֣עַלha.Ba.'alH1168,answer usעֲנֵ֔נוּ'a.Ne.nuH6030!”But there was noוְאֵ֥יןve.'EinH369soundק֖וֹלKolH6963,and no oneוְאֵ֣יןve.'EinH369answeredעֹנֶ֑ה'o.NehH6030as they leapedוַֽיְפַסְּח֔וּvay.fa.se.ChuH6452aroundעַל־'al-H5921the altarהַמִּזְבֵּ֖חַha.miz.Be.achH4196אֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834they had madeעָשָֽׂה׃'a.SahH6213.
27וַיְהִ֨יvay.HiH1961At noonבַֽצָּהֳרַ֜יִםva.tzo.ho.Ra.yimH6672Elijahאֵלִיָּ֗הוּ'e.li.Ya.huH452began to tauntוַיְהַתֵּ֧לvay.ha.TelH2048them,sayingוַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙vai.Yo.merH559, “Shoutקִרְא֤וּ בְקוֹל־kir.'U ve.kol-H7121H6963louderגָּדוֹל֙ga.dOlH1419,forכִּֽי־ki-H3588he isה֔וּא כִּ֣יHu' kiH1931H3588a godאֱלֹהִ֣ים'E.lo.HimH430!Perhaps he is deep in thoughtשִׂ֧יחַ וְכִֽי־Si.ach ve.khi-H7879H3588,or occupiedשִׂ֛יגsigH7873וְכִֽי־ve.khi-H3588,or on a journeyדֶ֣רֶךְDe.rekhH1870.Perhapsאוּלַ֛י'u.LaiH194he isה֖וּאhu'H1931sleepingיָשֵׁ֥ןya.ShenH3463and must be awakenedוְיִקָֽץ׃ve.yi.KatzH3364!”
28So they shouted louderוַֽיִּקְרְאוּ֙ בְּק֣וֹל גָּד֔וֹלvai.yik.re.'U be.Kol ga.DolH7121H6963H1419and cutוַיִּתְגֹּֽדְדוּ֙vai.yit.go.de.DuH1413themselves with knivesבַּחֲרָב֖וֹתba.cha.ra.VotH2719and lancesוּבָֽרְמָחִ֑יםu.va.re.ma.ChimH7420,as was their customכְּמִשְׁפָּטָ֔םke.mish.pa.TamH4941,untilעַד־'ad-H5704the bloodדָּ֖םdamH1818gushedשְׁפָךְ־she.fokh-H8210over themעֲלֵיהֶֽם׃'a.lei.HemH5921.
29וַֽיְהִי֙vay.HiH1961Midday passedכַּעֲבֹ֣ר הַֽצָּהֳרַ֔יִםka.'a.Vor ha.tzo.ho.Ra.yimH5674H6672,and they kept on ravingוַיִּֽתְנַבְּא֔וּvai.yit.na.be.'UH5012untilעַ֖ד'adH5704theלַעֲל֣וֹתla.'a.LotH5927timeof the evening sacrificeהַמִּנְחָ֑הha.min.ChahH4503.But there was noוְאֵֽין־ve.'ein-H369responseק֥וֹלKolH6963;noוְאֵין־ve.'ein-H369one answeredעֹנֶ֖ה'o.NehH6030,noוְאֵ֥יןve.'EinH369one paid attentionקָֽשֶׁב׃Ka.shevH7182.
30Then Elijahאֵלִיָּ֤הוּ'e.li.Ya.huH452saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to allלְכָל־le.kholH3605the peopleהָעָם֙ha.'AmH5971, “Come nearגְּשׁ֣וּge.ShuH5066to meאֵלַ֔י'e.LaiH413.”So allכָל־khol-H3605the peopleהָעָ֖ם אֵלָ֑יוha.'Am 'e.LavH5971H413approached himוַיִּגְּשׁ֥וּvai.yi.ge.ShuH5066,and he repairedוַיְרַפֵּ֛אvay.ra.Pe'H7495אֶת־'et-H853the altarמִזְבַּ֥חmiz.BachH4196of the LORDיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068that had been torn downהֶהָרֽוּס׃he.ha.RusH2040.
31And Elijahאֵלִיָּ֗הוּ'e.li.Ya.huH452tookוַיִּקַּ֣חvai.yi.KachH3947twelveשְׁתֵּ֤ים עֶשְׂרֵה֙she.Teim 'es.RehH8147H6240stonesאֲבָנִ֔ים'a.va.NimH68,one for eachכְּמִסְפַּ֖רke.mis.ParH4557tribeשִׁבְטֵ֣יshiv.TeiH7626of the sonsבְנֵֽי־ve.nei-H1121of Jacobיַעֲקֹ֑בya.'a.KoH3290,toאֵלָיו֙'e.LavH413whomאֲשֶׁר֩'a.SherH834the wordדְבַר־de.var-H1697of the LORDיְהוָ֤הYah.wehH3068had comeהָיָ֨הha.YahH1961andsaidלֵאמֹ֔רle.MorH559, “Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478shall beיִהְיֶ֥הyih.YehH1961your nameשְׁמֶֽךָ׃she.Me.khaH8034.”
32And with the stonesהָאֲבָנִ֛יםha.'a.va.NimH68, Elijahbuiltוַיִּבְנֶ֧הvai.yiv.NehH1129אֶת־'et-H853an altarמִזְבֵּ֖חַmiz.Be.achH4196in the nameבְּשֵׁ֣םbe.ShemH8034of the LORDיְהוָ֑הYah.wehH3068.Then he dugוַיַּ֣עַשׂvai.Ya.'asH6213a trenchתְּעָלָ֗הte.'a.LahH8585aroundסָבִ֖יבsa.VivH5439the altarלַמִּזְבֵּֽחַ׃la.miz.Be.achH4196large enough to holdכְּבֵית֙ke.VeitH1004two seahsסָאתַ֣יִםsa.Ta.yimH5429of seedזֶ֔רַעZe.ra'H2233.
34and saidוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Fillמִלְא֨וּmil.'UH4390fourאַרְבָּעָ֤ה'ar.ba.'AhH702waterpotsכַדִּים֙ מַ֔יִםkha.Dim Ma.yimH3537H4325and pourוְיִֽצְק֥וּve.yitz.KuH3332the wateronעַל־'al-H5921the offeringהָעֹלָ֖הha.'o.LahH5930and onוְעַל־ve.'al-H5921the woodהָעֵצִ֑יםha.'e.TzimH6086.” “Do it a second timeשְׁנוּ֙she.NuH8138,”he saidוַיֹּ֥אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559,and they did it a second timeוַיִּשְׁנ֔וּvai.yish.NuH8138. “Do it a third timeשַׁלֵּ֖שׁוּsha.Le.shuH8027,”he saidוַיֹּ֗אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559,and they did it a third timeוַיְשַׁלֵּֽשׁוּ׃vay.sha.Le.shuH8027.
36וַיְהִ֣י׀vay.HiH1961At the time ofבַּעֲל֣וֹתba.'a.LotH5927the evening sacrificeהַמִּנְחָ֗הha.min.ChahH4503,Elijahאֵלִיָּ֣הוּ'e.li.Ya.huH452the prophetהַנָּבִיא֮ha.na.Vi'H5030approachedוַיִּגַּ֞שׁvai.yi.GashH5066the altar and saidוַיֹּאמַר֒vai.yo.MarH559, “O LORDיְהוָ֗הYah.wehH3068,Godאֱלֹהֵי֙'e.lo.HeiH430of Abrahamאַבְרָהָם֙'av.ra.HamH85,Isaacיִצְחָ֣קyitz.ChakH3327,and Israelוְיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לve.Yis.ra.'ElH3478,let it be knownיִוָּדַ֗עyi.va.Da'H3045this dayהַיּ֣וֹםhai.YomH3117thatכִּֽי־ki-H3588Youאַתָּ֧ה'a.TahH859are Godאֱלֹהִ֛ים'E.lo.HimH430in Israelבְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לbe.Yis.ra.'ElH3478and that Iוַאֲנִ֣יva.'a.NiH589amYour servantעַבְדֶּ֑ךָ'av.De.khaH5650and have doneעָשִׂ֔יתִי'a.Si.tiH6213אֵ֥ת'etH853allכָּל־kol-H3605theseהָאֵֽלֶּה׃ha.'E.lehH428thingsוּבִדְבָרְךָ֣u.ve.div.rei.khaH1697at Your commandהַדְּבָרִ֖יםha.de.va.RimH1697.
37Answer meעֲנֵ֤נִי'a.Ne.niH6030,O LORDיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068!Answer meעֲנֵ֔נִי'a.Ne.niH6030,so that thisהַזֶּ֔הha.ZehH2088peopleהָעָ֣םha.'AmH5971will knowוְיֵֽדְעוּ֙ve.ye.de.'UH3045thatכִּֽי־ki-H3588Youאַתָּ֥ה'a.TahH859,the LORDיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068,are Godהָאֱלֹהִ֑יםha.'E.lo.HimH430,and that Youוְאַתָּ֛הve.'a.TahH859have turnedהֲסִבֹּ֥תָha.si.Bo.taH5437אֶת־'et-H853their heartsלִבָּ֖םli.BamH3820back againאֲחֹרַנִּֽית׃'a.cho.ra.NitH322.”
38Then the fireאֵשׁ־'esh-H784of the LORDיְהוָ֗הYah.wehH3068fellוַתִּפֹּ֣לva.ti.PolH5307and consumedוַתֹּ֤אכַלva.To.khalH398אֶת־'et-H853the sacrificeהָֽעֹלָה֙ha.'o.LahH5930וְאֶת־ve.'EtH853,the woodהָ֣עֵצִ֔יםha.'e.TzimH6086וְאֶת־ve.'EtH853,the stonesהָאֲבָנִ֖יםha.'a.va.NimH68וְאֶת־ve.'EtH853,and the dustהֶעָפָ֑רhe.'a.FarH6083וְאֶת־ve.'EtH853,and it licked upלִחֵֽכָה׃li.Che.khahH3897the waterהַמַּ֥יִםha.Ma.yimH4325אֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834in the trenchבַּתְּעָלָ֖הba.te.'a.LahH8585.
39When allכָּל־kol-H3605the peopleהָעָ֔םha.'AmH5971saw thisוַיַּרְא֙vai.yaR'H7200,they fellוַֽיִּפְּל֖וּvai.yi.pe.LuH5307facedownעַל־ פְּנֵיהֶ֑ם'al- pe.nei.HemH5921H6440and saidוַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּvai.Yo.me.RuH559, “The LORDיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068,Heה֣וּאhu'H1931is Godהָאֱלֹהִ֔יםha.'E.lo.HimH430!The LORDיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068,Heה֥וּאhu'H1931is Godהָאֱלֹהִֽים׃ha.'E.lo.HimH430!”
40Then Elijahאֵלִיָּ֨הוּ'e.li.Ya.huH452orderedוַיֹּאמֶר֩vai.yo.MerH559them, “Seizeתִּפְשׂ֣וּ׀tif.SuH8610אֶת־'et-H853the prophetsנְבִיאֵ֣יne.vi.'EiH5030of Baalהַבַּ֗עַלha.Ba.'alH1168!Do notאַל־'al-H408let a single oneאִ֛ישׁ'ishH376escapeיִמָּלֵ֥טyi.ma.LetH4422.”So they seized themוַֽיִּתְפְּשׂ֑וּםvai.yit.pe.SumH8610,and Elijahאֵלִיָּ֙הוּ֙'e.li.Ya.huH452brought them downוַיּוֹרִדֵ֤םvai.yo.ri.DemH3381toאֶל־'el-H413the Kishonקִישׁ֔וֹןki.ShonH7028Valleyנַ֣חַלNa.chalH5158and slaughtered themוַיִּשְׁחָטֵ֖םvai.yish.cha.TemH7819thereשָֽׁם׃ShamH8033.
