2“I am goingהֹלֵ֔ךְho.LekhH1980the wayבְּדֶ֖רֶךְbe.De.rekhH1870of allכָּל־kol-H3605the earthהָאָ֑רֶץha.'A.retzH776. Sobe strongוְחָזַקְתָּ֖ve.cha.zak.TaH2388, andproveוְהָיִ֥יתָֽve.ha.Yi.taH1961yourself a manלְאִֽישׁ׃le.'IshH376.

6So actוְעָשִׂ֖יתָve.'a.Si.taH6213as your wisdomכְּחָכְמָתֶ֑ךָke.cha.khe.ma.Te.khaH2451dictates,and do not let his grayH7872hairשֵׂיבָת֛וֹsei.va.ToH7872goH3381downH3381toSheolשְׁאֹֽל׃ סshe.'OlH7585in peaceבְּשָׁלֹ֖םbe.sha.LomH7965.

7However,showתַּֽעֲשֶׂה־ta.'a.seh-H6213kindnessחֶ֔סֶדChe.sedH2617to the sonsוְלִבְנֵ֨יve.liv.NeiH1121of Barzillaiבַרְזִלַּ֤יvar.zi.LaiH1271the Gileaditeהַגִּלְעָדִי֙ha.gil.'a.DiH1569, andlet them be among those who eatבְּאֹכְלֵ֣יbe.'o.khe.LeiH398at your tableשֻׁלְחָנֶ֑ךָshul.cha.Ne.khaH7979; forthey assistedקָרְב֣וּka.re.VuH7126me when I fledבְּבָרְחִ֕יbe.va.re.ChiH1272from Absalomאַבְשָׁל֥וֹם'av.sha.LomH53your brotherאָחִֽיךָ׃'a.Chi.khaH251.

8And beholdוְהִנֵּ֣הve.hi.NehH2009, you have with youShimeiשִֽׁמְעִ֨יshim.'IH8096the sonבֶן־ven-H1121of Geraגֵּרָ֥אge.Ra'H1617the BenjaminiteH1145,of Bahurimמִבַּחֻרִים֒mi.ba.chu.RimH980;now it was he who cursedקִֽלְלַ֙נִי֙ki.La.niH7043me with a painfulנִמְרֶ֔צֶתnim.Re.tzetH4834curseקְלָלָ֣הke.la.LahH7045on the dayבְּי֖וֹםbe.YomH3117I wentלֶכְתִּ֣יlekh.TiH1980to Mahanaimמַחֲנָ֑יִםma.cha.Na.yimH4266. 9But nowוְעַתָּה֙ve.'a.TahH6258do not leaveתְּנַקֵּ֔הוּte.na.Ke.huH5352him unpunishedH5352,for you are a wiseחָכָ֖םcha.KhamH2450manאִ֥ישׁ'ishH376;and you will knowוְיָֽדַעְתָּ֙ve.ya.da'.TaH3045whatאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834to doתַּֽעֲשֶׂה־ta.'a.seh-H6213to him, and you will bringוְהוֹרַדְתָּ֧ve.ho.rad.TaH3381his grayH7872hairשֵׂיבָת֛וֹsei.va.ToH7872downH3381toSheolשְׁאֽוֹל׃she.'olH7585with bloodבְּדָ֖םbe.DamH1818.”

Death of David

10ThenDavidדָּוִ֖דda.VidH1732layH7901downוַיִּשְׁכַּ֥בvai.yish.KavH7901with his fathersאֲבֹתָ֑יו'a.vo.TavH1,and he was buriedוַיִּקָּבֵ֖רvai.yi.ka.VerH6912inthe cityבְּעִ֥ירbe.'IrH5892of Davidדָּוִֽד׃ פda.VidH1732.

11Nowthe daysוְהַיָּמִ֗יםve.hai.ya.MimH3117that Davidדָּוִד֙da.VidH1732reignedמָלַ֤ךְma.LakhH4427overעַל־'al-H5921Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478werefortyאַרְבָּעִ֖ים'ar.ba.'ImH705yearsשָׁנָ֑הsha.NahH8141:in Hebronבְּחֶבְר֤וֹןbe.chev.RonH2275he reignedמָלַךְ֙ma.laKhH4427forsevenשֶׁ֣בַעShe.va'H7651yearsשָׁנִ֔יםsha.NimH8141,and in Jerusalemוּבִירוּשָׁלִַ֣םu.vi.ru.sha.LimH3389he reignedמָלַ֔ךְma.LakhH4427for thirty-threeשְׁלֹשִׁ֥ים וְשָׁלֹ֖שׁshe.lo.Shim ve.sha.LoshH7970 H7969yearsשָׁנִֽים׃sha.NimH8141.

12ThenSolomonוּשְׁלֹמֹ֕הu.she.lo.MohH8010satיָשַׁ֕בya.ShavH3427on the throneכִּסֵּ֖אki.Se'H3678of his fatherאָבִ֑יו'a.VivH1Davidדָּוִ֣דda.VidH1732,and his kingdomמַלְכֻת֖וֹmal.khu.ToH4438was firmlyמְאֹֽד׃me.'OdH3966establishedוַתִּכֹּ֥ןva.ti.KonH3559.

13Now Adonijahאֲדֹנִיָּ֣הוּ'a.do.ni.Ya.huH138the sonבֶן־ven-H1121of Haggithחַגֵּ֗יתcha.GeitH2294cameוַיָּבֹ֞אvai.ya.Vo'H935to BathshebaH1339the motherאֵם־'em-H517of Solomonשְׁלֹמֹ֔הshe.lo.MohH8010.So she saidוַתֹּ֖אמֶרva.To.merH559, “Do you comeבֹּאֶ֑ךָbo.'E.khaH935peacefullyהֲשָׁל֣וֹםha.sha.LomH7965?”And he saidוַיֹּ֖אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Peacefullyשָׁלֽוֹם׃sha.LomH7965.”

14Then he saidוַיֹּ֕אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “I have somethingדָּבָ֥רda.VarH1697to sayto you.” And she saidוַתֹּ֖אמֶרva.To.merH559, “Speakדַּבֵּֽר׃da.BerH1696.”

15So he saidוַיֹּ֗אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “You yourselfאַ֤תְּ'atH859knowיָדַ֙עַתְּ֙ya.Da.'atH3045thatthe kingdomהַמְּלוּכָ֔הha.me.lu.KhahH4410was mine andthat allכָֽל־khol-H3605Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֛לYis.ra.'ElH3478intendedשָׂ֧מוּ פְּנֵיהֶ֖םSa.mu pe.nei.HemH7760 H6440for me to beH4427kingלִמְלֹ֑ךְlim.LokhH4427;however, the kingdomהַמְּלוּכָה֙ha.me.lu.KhahH4410has turnedוַתִּסֹּ֤בva.ti.SoH5437aroundH5437and becomeH1961my brother’sלְאָחִ֔יle.'a.ChiH251,for it was his from the Lordמֵיְהוָ֖הme.Yah.wehH3068.

16So nowוְעַתָּ֗הve.'a.TahH6258I am makingשֹׁאֵ֣לsho.'ElH7592oneאַחַת֙'a.ChatH259requestשְׁאֵלָ֤הshe.'e.LahH7596of you; do notrefuseתָּשִׁ֖בִיta.Shi.viH7725me.” And she saidוַתֹּ֥אמֶרva.To.merH559to him, “Speakדַּבֵּֽר׃da.BerH1696.”

17Then he saidוַיֹּ֗אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Pleaseנָא֙na'H4994speakאִמְרִי־'im.ri-H559to Solomonלִשְׁלֹמֹ֣הlish.lo.MohH8010the kingהַמֶּ֔לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428--for he will notrefuseיָשִׁ֖יבya.ShivH7725you--that he may giveוְיִתֶּן־ve.yi.ten-H5414meAbishagאֲבִישַׁ֥ג'a.vi.ShagH49the Shunammiteהַשּׁוּנַמִּ֖יתha.shu.na.MitH7767as a wifeלְאִשָּֽׁה׃le.'i.ShahH802.”

18And BathshebaH1339saidוַתֹּ֥אמֶרva.To.merH559, “VeryH2896wellH2896;I will speakאֲדַבֵּ֥ר'a.da.BerH1696to the kingהַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ha.Me.lekhH4428for you.”

Adonijah Executed

19So BathshebaH1339wentוַתָּבֹ֤אva.ta.Vo'H935to Kingהַמֶּ֣לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428Solomonשְׁלֹמֹ֔הshe.lo.MohH8010,to speakלְדַבֶּר־le.da.ber-H1696to him for Adonijahאֲדֹנִיָּ֑הוּ'a.do.ni.Ya.huH138.And the kingהַמֶּ֨לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428stoodוַיָּקָם֩vai.ya.KamH6965to meetלִקְרָאתָ֜הּlik.ra.TahH7122her, bowedH2331to her, and satוַיֵּ֙שֶׁב֙vai.Ye.shevH3427on his throneכִּסְא֔וֹkis.'OH3678; then hehad a throneכִּסֵּא֙ki.Se'H3678setH7760upH7760for the king’sהַמֶּ֔לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428motherלְאֵ֣םle.'EmH517, andshe satוַתֵּ֖שֶׁבva.Te.shevH3427on his rightלִֽימִינֽוֹ׃li.mi.noH3225.

20Then she saidוַתֹּ֗אמֶרva.To.merH559, “I am makingשֹׁאֶ֣לֶתsho.'E.letH7592oneאַחַ֤ת'a.ChatH259smallקְטַנָּה֙ke.ta.NahH6996requestשְׁאֵלָ֨הshe.'e.LahH7596of you; do notrefuseתָּ֖שֶׁבTa.shevH7725me.” And the kingהַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ha.Me.lekhH4428saidוַיֹּֽאמֶר־vai.yo.mer-H559to her, “Askשַׁאֲלִ֣יsha.'a.LiH7592,my motherאִמִּ֔י'i.MiH517, for I will notrefuseאָשִׁ֖יב'a.ShivH7725you.”

21So she saidוַתֹּ֕אמֶרva.To.merH559, “Let Abishagאֲבִישַׁ֣ג'a.vi.ShagH49the Shunammiteהַשֻּׁנַמִּ֑יתha.shu.na.MitH7767be givenיֻתַּ֖ןyu.TanH5414to Adonijahלַאֲדֹנִיָּ֥הוּla.'a.do.ni.Ya.huH138your brotherאָחִ֖יךָ'a.Chi.khaH251as a wifeלְאִשָּֽׁה׃le.'i.ShahH802.”

22But Kingהַמֶּ֨לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428Solomonשְׁלֹמֹ֜הshe.lo.MohH8010answeredוַיַּעַן֩vai.ya.'AnH6030and saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to his motherלְאִמּ֗וֹle.'i.MoH517, “And whyוְלָמָה֩ve.la.MahH4100are you requestingשֹׁאֶ֜לֶתsho.'E.letH7592Abishagאֲבִישַׁ֤ג'a.vi.ShagH49the Shunammiteהַשֻּׁנַמִּית֙ha.shu.na.MitH7767for Adonijahלַאֲדֹ֣נִיָּ֔הוּla.'a.Do.ni.Ya.huH138?Requestוְשַֽׁאֲלִי־ve.sha.'a.li-H7592for him the kingdomהַמְּלוּכָ֔הha.me.lu.KhahH4410as well--sinceכִּ֛יkiH3588he is my olderהַגָּד֣וֹלha.ga.DolH1419brotherאָחִ֖י'a.ChiH251--for him, forAbiatharוּלְאֶבְיָתָ֣רu.le.'ev.ya.TarH54the priestהַכֹּהֵ֔ןha.ko.HenH3548,and for Joabוּלְיוֹאָ֖בu.le.yo.'AvH3097the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Zeruiahצְרוּיָֽה׃ פtze.ru.YahH6870!”

23Then Kingהַמֶּ֣לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428Solomonשְׁלֹמֹ֔הshe.lo.MohH8010sworeוַיִּשָּׁבַע֙vai.yi.sha.Va'H7650by the Lordבַּֽיהוָ֖הba.Yah.wehH3068,sayingלֵאמֹ֑רle.MorH559, “May Godאֱלֹהִים֙'E.lo.HimH430doיַֽעֲשֶׂה־ya.'a.seh-H6213soכֹּ֣הkohH3541to me and moreיוֹסִ֔יףyo.SifH3254soוְכֹ֣הve.KhohH3541,ifכִּ֣יkiH3588Adonijahאֲדֹ֣נִיָּ֔הוּ'a.Do.ni.Ya.huH138hasnot spokenדִּבֶּר֙di.BerH1696thisהַזֶּֽה׃ha.ZehH2088wordהַדָּבָ֖רha.da.VarH1697against his ownlifeבְנַפְשׁ֔וֹve.naf.ShoH5315!

24Nowוְעַתָּ֗הve.'a.TahH6258then, as the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068livesחַי־chai-H2416,whoH834has establishedהֱכִינַ֗נִיhe.khi.Na.niH3559me and setוַיּֽוֹשִׁיבַ֙נִי֙vai.yo.shi.vi.niH3427me on the throneכִּסֵּא֙ki.Se'H3678of Davidדָּוִ֣דda.VidH1732my fatherאָבִ֔י'a.ViH1, andhas madeעָֽשָׂה־'a.sah-H6213me a houseבַּ֖יִתBa.yitH1004justH3512asH3512Hepromisedדִּבֵּ֑רdi.BerH1696,Adonijahאֲדֹנִיָּֽהוּ׃'a.do.ni.Ya.huH138certainlyכִּ֣יkiH3588shall be putיוּמַ֖תyu.MatH4191toH4191deathH4191todayהַיּ֔וֹםhai.YomH3117!”

25Then Kingהַמֶּ֣לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428Solomonשְׁלֹמֹ֔הshe.lo.MohH8010sentוַיִּשְׁלַח֙vai.yish.LachH7971the orderby Benaiahבְּנָיָ֣הוּbe.na.Ya.huH1141the sonבֶן־ven-H1121of Jehoiadaיְהוֹיָדָ֑עye.ho.ya.Da'H3077; and hestruckוַיִּפְגַּע־vai.yif.ga'-H6293him so that he diedוַיָּמֹֽת׃ סvai.ya.MotH4191.

26Then to Abiatharוּלְאֶבְיָתָ֨רu.le.'ev.ya.TarH54the priestהַכֹּהֵ֜ןha.ko.HenH3548the kingהַמֶּ֗לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428saidאָמַ֣ר'a.MarH559, “Goלֵ֣ךְlekhH1980to Anathothעֲנָתֹת֙'a.na.TotH6068to your own fieldשָׂדֶ֔יךָsa.Dei.khaH7704, for youdeserveאִ֥ישׁ'ishH376to dieמָ֖וֶתMa.vetH4194;but I will not putאֲמִיתֶ֗ךָ'a.mi.Te.khaH4191you toH4191deathH4191at thisהַזֶּ֜הha.ZehH2088timeוּבַיּ֨וֹםu.vai.YomH3117,becauseH3588you carriedנָשָׂ֜אתָna.Sa.taH5375the arkאֲר֨וֹן'a.RonH727of the Lordאֲדֹנָ֤י'a.do.NaiH136GodH3068beforeלִפְנֵי֙lif.NeiH6440my fatherאָבִ֔י'a.ViH1Davidדָּוִ֣דda.VidH1732,and becauseH3588you were afflictedהִתְעַנִּ֔יתָhit.'a.Ni.taH6031in everythingבְּכֹ֥לbe.KholH3605with whichאֲשֶֽׁר־'a.Sher-H834my fatherאָבִֽי׃'a.ViH1was afflictedהִתְעַנָּ֖הhit.'a.NahH6031.”

27So Solomonשְׁלֹמֹה֙she.lo.MohH8010dismissedוַיְגָ֤רֶשׁvay.Ga.reshH1644Abiatharאֶבְיָתָ֔ר'ev.ya.TarH54from beingמִהְי֥וֹתmih.YotH1961priestכֹּהֵ֖ןko.HenH3548to the Lordלַֽיהוָ֑הla.Yah.wehH3068,to fulfillלְמַלֵּא֙le.ma.Le'H4390the wordדְּבַ֣רde.VarH1697of the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068,whichאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834He had spokenדִּבֶּ֛רdi.BerH1696regardingעַל־'al-H5921the houseבֵּ֥יתbeitH1004of Eliעֵלִ֖י'e.LiH5941in Shilohבְּשִׁלֹֽה׃ פbe.shi.LohH7887.

Joab Executed

28Now the newsוְהַשְּׁמֻעָה֙ve.ha.she.mu.'AhH8052cameבָּ֣אָהBa.'ahH935to Joabיוֹאָ֔בyo.'AvH3097becauseכִּ֣יkiH3588Joabיוֹאָ֗בyo.'AvH3097had followedנָטָה֙ אַחֲרֵ֣יna.Tah 'a.cha.ReiH5186 H310Adonijahאֲדֹנִיָּ֔ה'a.do.ni.YahH138,though he had not followedוְאַחֲרֵ֥י נָטָ֑הve.'a.cha.Rei na.TahH310 H5186Absalomאַבְשָׁל֖וֹם'av.sha.LomH53.So Joabיוֹאָב֙yo.'AvH3097fledוַיָּ֤נָסvai.Ya.nosH5127to the tentאֹ֣הֶל'O.helH168of the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068andtookH2388holdוַֽיַּחֲזֵ֖קvai.ya.cha.ZekH2388of the hornsבְּקַרְנ֥וֹתbe.kar.NotH7161of the altarהַמִּזְבֵּֽחַ׃ha.miz.Be.achH4196.
