4For whenלְעֵת֙le.'EtH6256Solomonשְׁלֹמֹ֔הshe.lo.MohH8010was oldזִקְנַ֣תzik.NatH2209,his wivesנָשָׁיו֙na.ShavH802turnedהִטּ֣וּhi.TuH5186his heartלְבָב֔וֹle.va.VoH3824awayH5186to followאַחֲרֵ֖י'a.cha.ReiH310otherאֲחֵרִ֑ים'a.che.RimH312godsאֱלֹהִ֣ים'E.lo.HimH430; andhis heartלְבָב֤וֹle.va.VoH3824was notwhollyH8003devotedH8003to the Lordיְהוָ֣הYah.wehH3068his Godאֱלֹהָ֔יו'e.lo.HavH430,as the heartכִּלְבַ֖בkil.VavH3824of his fatherאָבִֽיו׃'a.VivH1Davidדָּוִ֥ידda.VidH1732had been.

5For Solomonשְׁלֹמֹ֔הshe.lo.MohH8010becameH1980a followerH1980 H310ofAshtorethH6252the goddessאֱלֹהֵ֖י'e.lo.HeiH430of the Sidoniansצִדֹנִ֑יםtzi.do.NimH6722, and ofMilcomמִלְכֹּ֔םmil.KomH4445the abhorrentH8251idolH8251of the Ammonitesעַמֹּנִֽים׃'a.mo.NimH5984.

6So Solomonשְׁלֹמֹ֛הshe.lo.MohH8010didוַיַּ֧עַשׂvai.Ya.'asH6213whatH7451wasH7451evilהָרַ֖עha.Ra'H7451in the sightבְּעֵינֵ֣יbe.'ei.NeiH5869of the Lordיְהוָ֑הYah.wehH3068,and did not followאַחֲרֵ֥י'a.cha.ReiH310the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068fullyמִלֵּ֛אmi.Le'H4390,as his fatherאָבִֽיו׃ ס'a.VivH1Davidכְּדָוִ֥דke.da.VidH1732had done.

7Thenאָז֩'azH227Solomonשְׁלֹמֹ֜הshe.lo.MohH8010builtיִבְנֶ֨הyiv.NehH1129a highבָּמָ֗הba.MahH1116placeH1116forChemoshלִכְמוֹשׁ֙likh.mo.VoshH3645,the abhorrentH8251idolH8251of Moabמוֹאָ֔בmo.'AvH4124,on the mountainבָּהָ֕רba.HarH2022that iseastעַל־ פְּנֵ֣י'al- pe.NeiH5921 H6440of Jerusalemיְרוּשָׁלִָ֑םye.ru.sha.LimH3389, and forMolechוּלְמֹ֕לֶךְu.le.Mo.lekhH4432,the abhorrentH8251idolH8251of the sonsבְּנֵ֥יbe.NeiH1121of Ammonעַמּֽוֹן׃a.MonH5983.

8He also didעָשָׂ֔ה'a.SahH6213the sameוְכֵ֣ןve.KhenH3651for allלְכָל־le.kholH3605his foreignהַנָּכְרִיּ֑וֹתha.na.khe.ri.YotH5237wivesנָשָׁ֖יוna.ShavH802,who burnedH6999incenseH6999and sacrificedוּֽמְזַבְּח֖וֹתu.me.za.be.ChotH2076to their godsלֵאלֹהֵיהֶֽן׃le.lo.hei.HenH430.

9Nowthe Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068was angryוַיִּתְאַנַּ֥ףvai.yit.'a.NafH599with Solomonבִּשְׁלֹמֹ֑הbish.lo.MohH8010becauseכִּֽי־ki-H3588his heartלְבָב֗וֹle.va.VoH3824had turnedנָטָ֣הna.TahH5186awayH5186from the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068,the Godאֱלֹהֵ֣י'e.lo.HeiH430of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478,who had appearedהַנִּרְאָ֥הha.nir.'AhH7200to him twiceפַּעֲמָֽיִם׃pa.'a.Ma.yimH6471,

10andhad commandedוְצִוָּ֤הve.tzi.VahH6680him regardingעַל־'al-H5921thisהַזֶּ֔הha.ZehH2088thingהַדָּבָ֣רha.da.VarH1697,that he was not to followלֶ֔כֶת אַחֲרֵ֖יLe.khet 'a.cha.ReiH1980 H310otherאֲחֵרִ֑ים'a.che.RimH312godsאֱלֹהִ֣ים'E.lo.HimH430;but he did not complyH8104withH8104whatאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834the Lordיְהוָֽה׃ פYah.wehH3068had commandedצִוָּ֖הtzi.VahH6680.

11So the Lordיְהוָ֜הYah.wehH3068saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Solomonלִשְׁלֹמֹ֗הlish.lo.MohH8010, “Sinceיַ֚עַן אֲשֶׁ֣רYa.'an 'a.SherH3282 H834you have doneהָֽיְתָה־ עִמָּ֔ךְha.ye.tah- 'i.MakhH1961 H5973thisH2088,and you have not keptשָׁמַ֙רְתָּ֙sha.Mar.taH8104My covenantבְּרִיתִ֣יbe.ri.TiH1285and My statutesוְחֻקֹּתַ֔יve.chu.ko.TaiH2708,whichאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834I have commandedצִוִּ֖יתִיtzi.Vi.tiH6680you,I will certainlyH7167tearקָרֹ֨עַka.Ro.a'H7167the kingdomהַמַּמְלָכָה֙ha.mam.la.KhahH4467awayאֶקְרַ֤ע'ek.Ra'H7167from you, and will giveוּנְתַתִּ֖יהָu.ne.ta.Ti.haH5414it to your servantלְעַבְדֶּֽךָ׃le.'av.De.khaH5650.

12Howeverאַךְ־'akh-H389,I will not doאֶעֱשֶׂ֔נָּה'e.'e.Se.nahH6213it in your daysבְּיָמֶ֙יךָ֙be.ya.Mei.khaH3117, onlyfor the sakeלְמַ֖עַןle.Ma.'anH4616of your fatherאָבִ֑יךָ'a.Vi.khaH1Davidדָּוִ֣דda.VidH1732; butI will tearאֶקְרָעֶֽנָּה׃'ek.ra.'E.nahH7167it awayH7167from the handמִיַּ֥דmi.YadH3027of your sonבִּנְךָ֖bin.KhaH1121.

13YetH7534I will not tearאֶקְרָ֔ע'ek.Ra'H7167awayH7167allכָּל־kol-H3605the kingdomהַמַּמְלָכָה֙ha.mam.la.KhahH4467, butI will giveאֶתֵּ֣ן'e.TenH5414oneאֶחָ֖ד'e.ChadH259tribeשֵׁ֥בֶטShe.vetH7626to your sonלִבְנֶ֑ךָliv.Ne.khaH1121for the sakeלְמַ֙עַן֙le.Ma.'anH4616of My servantעַבְדִּ֔י'av.DiH5650Davidדָּוִ֣דda.VidH1732, andfor the sakeוּלְמַ֥עַןu.le.Ma.'anH4616of Jerusalemיְרוּשָׁלִַ֖םye.ru.sha.LimH3389,whichאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834I have chosenבָּחָֽרְתִּי׃ba.Cha.re.tiH977.”

14Then the Lordיְהוָ֤הYah.wehH3068raisedH6965upH6965an adversaryשָׂטָן֙sa.TanH7854against Solomonלִשְׁלֹמֹ֔הlish.lo.MohH8010,Hadadהֲדַ֣דha.DadH1908the Edomiteהָאֲדֹמִ֑יha.'a.do.MiH130; he was of theroyalהַמֶּ֛לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428lineמִזֶּ֧רַעmi.Ze.ra'H2233in EdomH112.

15For it cameוַיְהִ֗יvay.HiH1961aboutבִּֽהְי֤וֹתbih.YotH1961,when Davidדָּוִד֙da.VidH1732was in EdomH112and Joabיוֹאָב֙yo.'AvH3097the commanderשַׂ֣רsarH8269of the armyהַצָּבָ֔אha.tza.Va'H6635had goneH5927upH5927to buryלְקַבֵּ֖רle.ka.BerH6912those killedהַחֲלָלִ֑יםha.cha.la.LimH2491in battle, and hadstruckH5221andH5221killedH5221everyכָּל־kol-H3605maleזָכָ֖רza.KharH2145in EdomH112

16(for Joabיוֹאָ֖בyo.'AvH3097and allוְכָל־ve.kholH3605Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לYis.ra.'ElH3478stayedיָֽשַׁב־ya.shav-H3427thereשָׁ֥םshamH8033for sixשֵׁ֧שֶׁתShe.shetH8337monthsחֳדָשִׁ֛יםcho.da.ShimH2320,untilעַד־'ad-H5704he had eliminatedהִכְרִ֥יתhikh.RitH3772everyכָּל־kol-H3605maleזָכָ֖רza.KharH2145in EdomH112),

17that Hadadוַהֲדַ֖דva.ha.DadH1908fledוַיִּבְרַ֣חvai.yiv.RachH1272to Egyptמִצְרָ֑יִםmitz.Ra.yimH4714,he and certainH376Edomitesאֲדֹמִיִּ֜ים'a.do.mi.YimH130of his father’sאָבִ֛יו'a.VivH1servantsמֵעַבְדֵ֥יme.'av.DeiH5650with him, while HadadH1908wasa youngקָטָֽן׃ka.TanH6996boyנַ֥עַרNa.'arH5288.

18They setH6965outH6965from Midianמִמִּדְיָ֔ןmi.mid.YanH4080and cameוַיָּבֹ֖אוּvai.ya.Vo.'uH935toParanפָּארָ֑ןpa.RanH6290;and they tookוַיִּקְחוּ֩vai.yik.ChuH3947menH376with them from Paranמִפָּארָ֗ןmi.pa.RanH6290and cameוַיָּבֹ֤אוּvai.ya.Vo.'uH935to Egyptמִצְרַ֙יִם֙mitz.Ra.yimH4714,to Pharaohפַּרְעֹ֣הpar.'OhH6547kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Egyptמִצְרַ֔יִםmitz.Ra.yimH4714,who gaveוַיִּתֶּן־vai.yi.ten-H5414him a houseבַ֗יִתVa.yitH1004and assignedאָ֣מַר'A.marH559him foodוְלֶ֙חֶם֙ve.Le.chemH3899and gaveנָ֥תַןNa.tanH5414him landוְאֶ֖רֶץve.'E.retzH776.

19Now Hadadהֲדַ֥דha.DadH1908foundוַיִּמְצָא֙vai.yim.Tza'H4672greatמְאֹ֑דme.'OdH3966favorחֵ֛ןchenH2580in the sightבְּעֵינֵ֥יbe.'ei.NeiH5869of Pharaohפַרְעֹ֖הfar.'OhH6547,so that he gaveוַיִּתֶּן־vai.yi.ten-H5414him in marriageאִשָּׁה֙'i.ShahH802the sisterאֲח֣וֹת'a.ChotH269of his own wifeאִשְׁתּ֔וֹ'ish.ToH802,the sisterאֲח֖וֹת'a.ChotH269of Tahpenesתַּחְפְּנֵ֥יסtach.pe.NeisH8472the queenהַגְּבִירָֽה׃ha.ge.vi.RahH1377.
