Context of John 12:46

44Now Jesus cried out and said, “The one who believes in Me, does not believe only in Me, but also in Him who sent Me. 45And the one who sees Me sees Him who sent Me. I have come as Light into the world, so that no one who believes in Me will remain in darkness. 47If anyone hears My teachings and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world. 48The one who rejects Me and does not accept My teachings has one who judges him: the word which I spoke. That will judge him on the last day.

• Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 46I am come a light into the world - Probably referring to what his forerunner had said, John 1:5. Before the coming of this Savior, this sun of righteousness, into the world, all was darkness: at his rising the darkness is dispersed; but it only profits those whose eyes are open to receive the rays of this sun of righteousness.
