1 Kings 3:9-28
9So 1giveH5414 Your servantH5650 2an understandingH8085 heartH3820 to judgeH8199 Your peopleH5971 3to discernH995 betweenH996 goodH2896 and evilH7451. For whoH4310 is ableH3201 to judgeH8199 thisH2088 4greatH3515 peopleH5971 of Yours?”
105It was pleasingH3190 in the sightH5869 of the LordH136 that SolomonH8010 had askedH7592 thisH2088 thingH1697. 11GodH430 saidH559 to him, “BecauseH3282H834 you have askedH7592 thisH2088 thingH1697 and have 6not askedH7592 for yourself 7longH7227 lifeH3117, norH3808 have askedH7592 richesH6239 for yourself, norH3808 have you askedH7592 for the lifeH5315 of your enemiesH340, but have askedH7592 for yourself 8discernmentH995 to understandH8085 justiceH4941, 12beholdH2009, 9I have doneH6213 according to your wordsH1697. BeholdH2009, 10I have givenH5414 you a wiseH2450 and discerningH995 heartH3820, soH834 that there has beenH1961 noH3808 one likeH3644 you beforeH6440 you, norH3808 shall one likeH3644 you ariseH6965 afterH310 you. 1311I have alsoH1571 givenH5414 you whatH834 you have not askedH7592, bothH1571 12richesH6239 and honorH3519, soH834 that there will not be anyH376 among the kingsH4428 likeH3644 you allH3605 your daysH3117. 1413IfH518 you walkH1980 in My waysH1870, keepingH8104 My statutesH2706 and commandmentsH4687, as your fatherH1 DavidH1732 walkedH1980, then I will 14prolongH748 your daysH3117.”
15Then 15SolomonH8010 awokeH3364, and beholdH2009, it was a dreamH2472. And he cameH935 to JerusalemH3389 and stoodH5975 beforeH6440 the arkH727 of the covenantH1285 of the LordH136, and offeredH5927 burntH5930 offeringsH5930 and madeH6213 peaceH8002 offeringsH8002, and 16madeH6213 a feastH4960 for allH3605 his servantsH5650.
16ThenH227 twoH8147 womenH802 who were harlotsH2181 cameH935 to the kingH4428 and stoodH5975 beforeH6440 him. 17The oneH259 womanH802 saidH559, “OhH994, my lordH113, 17thisH2088 womanH802 and I liveH3427 in the sameH259 houseH1004; and I gaveH3205 birthH3205 to a childH3205 whileH5973 she was in the houseH1004. 18It happenedH1961 on the thirdH7992 dayH3117 after I gaveH3205 birthH3205, that thisH2088 womanH802 alsoH1571 gaveH3205 birthH3205 to a childH3205, and we were togetherH3164. ThereH369 was noH369 strangerH2114 with us in the houseH1004, onlyH2108 the twoH8147 of us in the houseH1004. 19ThisH2088 woman’sH802 sonH1121 diedH4191 in the nightH3915, becauseH834 she layH7901 on it. 20So she aroseH6965 in the middleH8432 of the nightH3915 and tookH3947 my sonH1121 from besideH681 me while your maidservantH519 sleptH3463, and laidH7901 him in her bosomH2436, and laidH7901 her deadH4191 sonH1121 in my bosomH2436. 21When I roseH6965 in the morningH1242 to nurseH3243 my sonH1121, beholdH2009, he was deadH4191; but when I lookedH995 at him carefullyH995 in the morningH1242, beholdH2009, he was not my sonH1121, whomH834 I had borneH3205.” 22Then the otherH312 womanH802 saidH559, “NoH3808! For the livingH2416 oneH2416 is my sonH1121, and the deadH4191 one is your sonH1121.” But 18the firstH2088 womanH2088 saidH559, “NoH3808! For the deadH4191 one is your sonH1121, and the livingH2416 oneH2416 is my sonH1121.” Thus they spokeH1696 beforeH6440 the kingH4428.
23Then the kingH4428 saidH559, “19The oneH2088 saysH559, ‘ThisH2088 is my sonH1121 who is livingH2416, and your sonH1121 is the deadH4191 one’; and 20the otherH2088 saysH559, ‘NoH3808! For your sonH1121 is the deadH4191 one, and my sonH1121 is the livingH2416 oneH2416.’” 24The kingH4428 saidH559, “GetH3947 me a swordH2719.” So they broughtH935 a swordH2719 beforeH6440 the kingH4428. 25The kingH4428 saidH559, “DivideH1504 the livingH2416 childH3206 in twoH8147, and giveH5414 halfH2677 to the oneH259 and halfH2677 to the otherH259.” 26Then the womanH802 whoseH834 childH1121 was the livingH2416 oneH2416 spokeH559 to the kingH4428, for 2122she was deeplyH7356H3648 stirredH3648 overH5921 her sonH1121 and saidH559, “OhH994, my lordH113, giveH5414 her the livingH2416 childH3205, and by noH408 meansH4191 killH4191 him.” But the otherH2088 saidH559, “He shall be neitherH1571H3808 mine norH3808 yours; divideH1504 him!” 27Then the kingH4428 saidH559, “GiveH5414 23the first woman the livingH2416 childH3205, and by noH3808 meansH4191 killH4191 him. She is his motherH517.” 28When allH3605 IsraelH3478 heardH8085 of the judgmentH4941 whichH834 the kingH4428 had 24handedH8199 downH8199, they fearedH3372 the kingH4428, for 25they sawH7200 that the wisdomH2451 of GodH430 was in him to 26administerH6213 justiceH4941.
