Vision of Abominations in Jerusalem

1It cameוַיְהִ֣י׀vay.HiH1961about in the sixthהַשִּׁשִּׁ֗יתha.shi.ShitH8345yearבַּשָּׁנָ֣הba.sha.NahH8141,on the fifthבַּחֲמִשָּׁ֣הba.cha.mi.ShahH2568dayof the sixthבַּשִּׁשִּׁי֙ba.shi.ShiH8345monthלַחֹ֔דֶשׁla.Cho.deshH2320,as I was sittingיוֹשֵׁ֣בyo.ShevH3427in my houseבְּבֵיתִ֔יbe.vei.TiH1004with the eldersוְזִקְנֵ֥יve.zik.NeiH2205of Judahיְהוּדָ֖הye.hu.DahH3063sittingיוֹשְׁבִ֣יםyo.she.VimH3427beforeלְפָנָ֑יle.fa.NaiH6440me, that the handיַ֖דyadH3027of the Lordאֲדֹנָ֥י'a.do.NaiH136GodH3068fellוַתִּפֹּ֤לva.ti.PolH5307on me thereשָׁ֔םShamH8033.

2Then I lookedוָאֶרְאֶ֗הva.'er.'EhH7200,and beholdוְהִנֵּ֤הve.hi.NehH2009,a likenessדְמוּת֙de.MutH1823as the appearanceכְּמַרְאֵה־ke.mar.'eh-H4758ofa manאֵ֔שׁ'EshH784;from His loinsמָתְנָ֛יוma.te.NavH4975and downwardוּלְמַ֖טָּהu.le.Ma.tahH4295there was theappearanceמִמַּרְאֵ֥הmi.mar.'EhH4758of fireאֵ֑שׁ'EshH784,and from His loinsוּמִמָּתְנָ֣יוu.mi.ma.te.NavH4975and upwardוּלְמַ֔עְלָהu.le.Ma'.lahH4605the appearanceכְּמַרְאֵה־ke.mar.'eh-H4758of brightnessזֹ֖הַרZo.harH2096,like the appearanceכְּעֵ֥יןke.'EinH5869ofglowingH2830metalH2830.

3He stretchedוַיִּשְׁלַח֙vai.yish.LachH7971out the formתַּבְנִ֣יתtav.NitH8403of a handיָ֔דYadH3027and caughtוַיִּקָּחֵ֖נִיvai.yi.ka.Che.niH3947me by a lockבְּצִיצִ֣תbe.tzi.TzitH6734of my headרֹאשִׁ֑יro.ShiH7218; and theSpiritר֣וּחַ׀Ru.achH7307liftedוַתִּשָּׂ֣אva.ti.Sa'H5375me up betweenH996earthהָאָ֣רֶץha.'A.retzH776and heavenהַשָּׁמַ֡יִםha.sha.Ma.yimH8064and broughtוַתָּבֵא֩va.ta.Ve'H935me in the visionsבְּמַרְא֣וֹתbe.mar.'otH4759of Godאֱלֹהִ֗ים'E.lo.HimH430to Jerusalemיְרוּשָׁלְַ֜מָהye.ru.sha.Le.mahH3389,to the entranceפֶּ֜תַחPe.tachH6607of thenorthצָפ֔וֹנָהtza.Fo.nahH6828gateשַׁ֤עַרSha.'arH8179of the innerהַפְּנִימִית֙ha.pe.ni.MitH6442court,whereאֲשֶׁר־ שָׁ֣ם'a.Sher- shamH834 H8033the seatמוֹשַׁ֔בmo.ShavH4186of the idolסֵ֖מֶלSe.melH5566of jealousyהַקִּנְאָ֥הha.kin.'AhH7068,whichH834provokesH7065to jealousyH7065, was located.

4And beholdוְהִ֨נֵּה־ve.Hi.neh-H2009, thegloryכְּב֖וֹדke.VodH3519of the Godאֱלֹהֵ֣י'e.lo.HeiH430of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לYis.ra.'ElH3478wasthereשָׁ֔םShamH8033,like the appearanceכַּמַּרְאֶ֕הka.mar.'EhH4758whichאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834I sawרָאִ֖יתִיra.'I.tiH7200in the plainבַּבִּקְעָֽה׃ba.bik.'AhH1237.

5Then He saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to me, “Sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of manאָדָ֕ם'a.DamH120,raiseשָׂא־sa'-H5375your eyesעֵינֶ֖יךָ'ei.Nei.khaH5869nowנָ֥אna'H4994towardדֶּ֣רֶךְDe.rekhH1870the northצָפ֑וֹנָהtza.Fo.nahH6828.”So I raisedוָאֶשָּׂ֤אva.'e.Sa'H5375my eyesעֵינַי֙'ei.NaiH5869towardדֶּ֣רֶךְDe.rekhH1870the northצָפ֔וֹנָהtza.Fo.nahH6828,and beholdוְהִנֵּ֤הve.hi.NehH2009,to the northמִצָּפוֹן֙mi.tza.fOnH6828of the altarהַמִּזְבֵּ֔חַha.miz.Be.achH4196gateלְשַׁ֣עַרle.Sha.'arH8179wasthisהַזֶּ֖הha.ZehH2088idolסֵ֛מֶלSe.melH5566of jealousyהַקִּנְאָ֥הha.kin.'AhH7068at the entranceבַּבִּאָֽה׃ba.bi.'AhH872.

6And He saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to me, “Sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of manאָדָ֕ם'a.DamH120,doH6213you seeהֲרֹאֶ֥הha.ro.'EhH7200whatמָ֣ההֵ֣םme.hemH4100they are doingH6213,the greatגְּדֹל֜וֹתge.do.LotH1419abominationsתּוֹעֵב֨וֹתto.'e.VotH8441whichאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834the houseבֵּֽית־beit-H1004of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֣ל׀Yis.ra.'ElH3478are committingH6213hereפֹּ֗הPohH6311,so that I would be farלְרָֽחֳקָה֙le.ro.cho.KahH7368from My sanctuaryמִקְדָּשִׁ֔יmik.da.ShiH4720?But yetוְעוֹד֙ve.'OdH5750you will seeתִּרְאֶ֔הtir.'EhH7200stillתָּשׁ֣וּבta.ShuvH7725greaterגְּדֹלֽוֹת׃ סge.do.LotH1419abominationsתּוֹעֵב֖וֹתto.'e.VotH8441.”

7Then He broughtוַיָּבֵ֥אvai.ya.Ve'H935me to the entranceפֶּ֣תַחPe.tachH6607of the courtהֶֽחָצֵ֑רhe.cha.TzerH2691,and when I lookedוָאֶרְאֶ֕הva.'er.'EhH7200,beholdוְהִנֵּ֥הve.hi.NehH2009,a holeחֹר־chor-H2356in the wallבַּקִּֽיר׃ba.KirH7023.

8He saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to me, “Sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of manאָדָ֖ם'a.DamH120,nowנָ֣אna'H4994digחֲתָר־cha.tor-H2864through the wallבַקִּ֑ירva.KirH7023.”So I dugוָאֶחְתֹּ֣רva.'ech.TorH2864through the wallבַּקִּ֔ירba.KirH7023,and beholdוְהִנֵּ֖הve.hi.NehH2009,an entranceפֶּ֥תַחPe.tachH6607.

9And He saidוַיֹּ֖אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to me, “Goבֹּ֤אbo'H935in and seeוּרְאֵה֙u.re.'EhH7200the wickedהָרָע֔וֹתha.ra.'otH7451abominationsהַתּוֹעֵב֣וֹתha.to.'e.VotH8441that they are committingעֹשִׂ֖ים'o.SimH6213hereפֹּֽה׃PohH6311.”

10So I enteredוָאָבוֹא֮va.'a.Vo'H935and lookedוָֽאֶרְאֶה֒va.'er.'EhH7200,and beholdוְהִנֵּ֨הve.hi.NehH2009,everyכָל־khol-H3605formתַּבְנִ֜יתtav.NitH8403of creepingH7431thingsרֶ֤מֶשׂRe.mesH7431and beastsוּבְהֵמָה֙u.ve.he.MahH929anddetestableשֶׁ֔קֶץShe.ketzH8263thingsH8263,with allוְכָל־ve.kholH3605the idolsגִּלּוּלֵ֖יgi.lu.LeiH1544of the houseבֵּ֣יתbeitH1004of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לYis.ra.'ElH3478,were carvedמְחֻקֶּ֥הme.chu.KehH2707on the wallהַקִּ֖ירha.KirH7023allסָבִ֥יב׀sa.VivH5439aroundסָבִֽיב׃sa.VivH5439.

11Standingעֹמֵ֤ד'o.MedH5975in frontלִפְנֵיהֶ֔םlif.nei.HemH6440of them wereseventyוְשִׁבְעִ֣יםve.shiv.'ImH7657eldersמִזִּקְנֵ֣יmi.zik.NeiH2205of the houseבֵֽית־veit-H1004of Israelיִ֠שְׂרָאֵלYis.ra.'elH3478,with Jaazaniahוְיַאֲזַנְיָ֨הוּve.ya.'a.zan.Ya.huH2970the sonבֶן־ven-H1121of Shaphanשָׁפָ֜ןsha.FanH8227standingעֹמְדִ֣ים'o.me.DimH5975amongבְּתוֹכָם֙be.to.KhamH8432them, eachאִ֣ישׁ'ishH376manוְאִ֥ישׁve.'IshH376with hiscenserמִקְטַרְתּ֖וֹmik.tar.ToH4730in his handבְּיָד֑וֹbe.ya.DoH3027and the fragranceוַעֲתַ֥רva.'a.TarH6282of the cloudעֲנַֽן־'a.nan-H6051of incenseהַקְּטֹ֖רֶתha.ke.To.retH7004risingעֹלֶֽה׃'o.LehH5927.

12Then He saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to me, “Sonבֶן־ven-H1121of manאָדָם֒'a.DamH120,do you seeהֲרָאִ֣יתָha.ra.'I.taH7200whatאֲשֶׁ֨ר'a.SherH834the eldersזִקְנֵ֤יzik.NeiH2205of the houseבֵֽית־veit-H1004of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵל֙Yis.ra.'ElH3478are committingעֹשִׂ֣ים'o.SimH6213in the darkבַּחֹ֔שֶׁךְba.Cho.shekhH2822,eachH376manH376in the roomבְּחַדְרֵ֣יbe.chad.ReiH2315of his carvedH4906imagesמַשְׂכִּית֑וֹmas.ki.ToH4906?For they sayאֹמְרִ֗ים'o.me.RimH559, ‘The Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068does not seeרֹאֶ֣הro.'EhH7200us; the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068hasforsakenעָזַ֥ב'a.ZavH5800the landהָאָֽרֶץ׃ha.'A.retzH776.’”

13And He saidוַיֹּ֖אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to me, “Yetע֣וֹדodH5750you will seeתִּרְאֶ֛הtir.'EhH7200stillתָּשׁ֥וּבta.ShuvH7725greaterגְּדֹל֖וֹתge.do.LotH1419abominationsתּוֹעֵב֥וֹתto.'e.VotH8441whichאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834they are committingעֹשִֽׂים׃'o.SimH6213.”

14Then He broughtוַיָּבֵ֣אvai.ya.Ve'H935me to the entranceפֶּ֙תַח֙pe.tachH6607of thegateשַׁ֣עַרSha.'arH8179of the Lord’sיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068houseבֵּית־beit-H1004whichאֲשֶׁ֖ר'a.SherH834wastowardH413the northהַצָּפ֑וֹנָהha.tza.Fo.nahH6828;and beholdוְהִנֵּה־ve.hi.neh-H2009,womenהַנָּשִׁ֣יםha.na.ShimH802were sittingיֹֽשְׁב֔וֹתyo.she.VotH3427thereשָׁם֙shamH8033weepingמְבַכּ֖וֹתme.va.KotH1058for Tammuzהַתַּמּֽוּז׃ סha.ta.MuzH8542.

15He saidוַיֹּ֥אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to me, “Do you seeהֲרָאִ֣יתָha.ra.'I.taH7200this,sonבֶן־ven-H1121of manאָדָ֑ם'a.DamH120?Yetע֣וֹדodH5750you will seeתִּרְאֶ֛הtir.'EhH7200stillתָּשׁ֥וּבta.ShuvH7725greaterגְּדֹל֖וֹתge.do.LotH1419abominationsתּוֹעֵב֥וֹתto.'e.VotH8441thanH4480theseמֵאֵֽלֶּה׃me.'E.lehH428.”

16Then He broughtוַיָּבֵ֣אvai.ya.Ve'H935me into the innerהַפְּנִימִית֒ha.pe.ni.MitH6442courtחֲצַ֣רcha.TzarH2691of the Lord’sיְהוָה֮Yah.wehH3068houseבֵּית־beit-H1004.And beholdוְהִנֵּה־ve.hi.neh-H2009,at the entranceפֶ֜תַחFe.tachH6607to the templeהֵיכַ֣לhei.KhalH1964of the Lordיְהוָ֗הYah.wehH3068,betweenH996the porchהָֽאוּלָם֙ha.'u.LamH197and the altarהַמִּזְבֵּ֔חַha.miz.Be.achH4196, wereabout twenty-fiveכְּעֶשְׂרִ֥ים וַחֲמִשָּׁ֖הke.'es.Rim va.cha.mi.ShahH6242 H2568menאִ֑ישׁ'IshH376with theirbacksאֲחֹ֨רֵיהֶ֜ם'a.Cho.rei.HemH268to the templeהֵיכַ֤לhei.KhalH1964of the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068and their facesוּפְנֵיהֶ֣םu.fe.nei.HemH6440toward the eastקֵ֔דְמָהKe.de.mahH6924; and they wereprostratingמִשְׁתַּחֲוִיתֶ֥םmish.ta.cha.vi.TemH7812themselves eastwardקֵ֖דְמָהKe.de.mahH6924toward the sunלַשָּֽׁמֶשׁ׃la.Sha.meshH8121.

17He saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to me, “Do you seeהֲרָאִ֣יתָha.ra.'I.taH7200this,sonבֶן־ven-H1121of manאָדָם֒'a.DamH120?Is it too lightH7043a thingH7043for the houseלְבֵ֣יתle.VeitH1004of Judahיְהוּדָ֔הye.hu.DahH3063to commitמֵעֲשׂ֕וֹתme.'a.SotH6213the abominationsהַתּוֹעֵב֖וֹתha.to.'e.VotH8441whichאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834they have committedעָֽשׂוּ־'a.su-H6213hereפֹ֑הFohH6311, that they havefilledמָלְא֨וּmal.'UH4390the landהָאָ֜רֶץha.'A.retzH776with violenceחָמָ֗סcha.MasH2555andprovokedלְהַכְעִיסֵ֔נִיle.hakh.'i.Se.niH3707Me repeatedlyוַיָּשֻׁ֙בוּ֙vai.ya.Shu.vuH7725?For beholdH2009,they are puttingשֹׁלְחִ֥יםsho.le.ChimH7971the twigהַזְּמוֹרָ֖הha.ze.mo.RahH2156to their noseאַפָּֽם׃'a.PamH639.

18Therefore, I indeedוְגַם־ve.gam-H1571will dealאֶעֱשֶׂ֣ה'e.'e.SehH6213in wrathבְחֵמָ֔הve.che.MahH2534.My eyeעֵינִ֖י'ei.NiH5869will haveH2347noH3808pityH2347norH3808will I spareאֶחְמֹ֑ל'ech.MolH2550; andthough they cryוְקָרְא֤וּve.ka.re.'UH7121in My earsבְאָזְנַי֙ve.'a.ze.NaiH241with a loudגָּד֔וֹלga.DolH1419voiceק֣וֹלKolH6963,yet I will not listenאֶשְׁמַ֖ע'esh.Ma'H8085to them.”
