Judah’s Inheritance
1Now the allotmentH1486 for the clansH4940 of the tribeH4294 of JudahH1121H3063 extendedH1961 toH413 the borderH1366 of EdomH123, to the WildernessH4057 of ZinH6790 at the extremeH5045H7097 southern boundaryH8486:
2Their southernH5045 borderH1366 startedH1961 at the bayH3956H6437 onH4480 the southernH5045 tipH7097 of the Salt SeaH3220H4417,1 3proceededH3318H413 southH5045 of the AscentH4610 of AkrabbimH4610,2 continued onH5674 to ZinH6790, went overH5927 to the southH5045H6947 of Kadesh-barneaH6947, ran pastH5674 HezronH2696 up toH5927 AddarH146, and curvedH5437 toward KarkaH7173. 4It proceededH5674 to AzmonH6111H3318, joined the BrookH5158 of EgyptH4714, and endedH8444H1366 at the SeaH3220.3 ThisH2088 wasH1961 their4 southernH5045 borderH1366. 5The easternH6924 borderH1366 was the Salt SeaH3220H4417 as far asH5704 the mouthH7097 of the JordanH3383. 6The northernH6828 borderH1366 started fromH6285 the bayH3956 of the seaH3220 at the mouthH7097 of the JordanH3383, went upH5927 to Beth-hoglahH1031, proceededH5674 northH6828 of Beth-arabahH1026, and went upH5927H1366 to the StoneH68 of BohanH932 sonH1121 of ReubenH7205. 7ThenH1366 the border went upH5927 to DebirH1688 from the ValleyH6010 of AchorH5911, turningH6437 northH6828 toH413 GilgalH1537, whichH834 facesH5227 the AscentH4608 of AdummimH131 southH5045 of the ravineH5158. It continuedH5674 alongH413 the watersH4325 of En-shemeshH5885 and came outH1961H8444 atH413 En-rogelH5883. 8From there the borderH1366 went upH5927 the Valley of Ben-hinnomH1516H1121H2011 alongH413 the southernH5045 slopeH3802 of the JebusitesH2983 (that isH1931, JerusalemH3389) and ascendedH5927H1366 toH413 the topH7218 of the hillH2022 thatH834 facesH5921H6440 the Valley of HinnomH1516H2011 on the westH3220, at the northernH6828 endH7097 of the ValleyH6010 of RephaimH7497. 9From the hilltopH7218H2022 the borderH1366 curvedH8388 toH413 the springH4599 of the WatersH4325 of NephtoahH5318, proceededH3318 toH413 the citiesH5892 of MountH2022 EphronH6085, and then bent aroundH8388H1366 toward BaalahH1173 (that isH1931, Kiriath-jearimH7157). 10The borderH1366 curledH5437 westwardH3220 from BaalahH1173 toH413 MountH2022 SeirH8165, ranH5674 alongH413 the northernH6828 slopeH3802 of MountH2022 JearimH3297 (that isH1931, ChesalonH3693), went downH3381 to Beth-shemeshH1053, and crossedH5674 to TimnahH8553. 11ThenH1366 it went outH3318 toH413 the northernH6828 slopeH3802 of EkronH6138, curvedH8388H1366 toward ShikkeronH7942, proceededH5674 to MountH2022 BaalahH1173, went onH3318 to JabneelH2995, and endedH1961H8444H1366 at the SeaH3220. 12And the westernH3220 borderH1366 was the coastlineH1366 of the GreatH1419 SeaH3220.
TheseH2088 are the boundariesH1366 aroundH5439 the clansH4940 of the descendantsH1121 of JudahH3063.
Caleb’s Portion and Conquest
(Judges 1:8–26)
13AccordingH413 to the LORD’sH3068 commandH6310 toH3091 him, Joshua gaveH5414 CalebH3612 sonH1121 of JephunnehH3312 a portionH2506 amongH8432 the sonsH1121 of JudahH3063—Kiriath-arbaH7153, thatH1931 is, HebronH2275. (Arba was the forefatherH1 of AnakH6061.) 14And CalebH3612 drove outH3423 from thereH8033 the threeH7969 sonsH1121 of AnakH6061—the descendants ofH853 SheshaiH8344, AhimanH289, and TalmaiH8526, the childrenH3211 of AnakH6061.
15From thereH8033 he marchedH5927 againstH413 the inhabitantsH3427 of DebirH1688 (formerlyH6440 known asH8034 Kiriath-sepherH7158). 16And CalebH3612 saidH559, “To the man whoH834 strikes downH5221 Kiriath-sepherH7158 and captures itH3920, I will giveH5414 my daughterH1323 AcsahH5915 in marriageH802.” 17So OthnielH6274 sonH1121 of Caleb’sH3612 brotherH251 KenazH7073 capturedH3920 the city, and Caleb gaveH5414 his daughterH1323 AcsahH5915 to him in marriageH802.
18One dayH1961 Acsah cameH935 to Othniel and urged himH54965 to askH7592 her fatherH1 forH854 a fieldH7704. When she got offH6795H5921 her donkeyH2543, CalebH3612 askedH559 her, “WhatH4100 do you desire?”
19“GiveH5414 me a blessingH1293,” she answeredH559. “SinceH3588 you have given meH5414 landH776 in the NegevH5045, give meH5414 springsH1543 of waterH4325 as well.”
So Caleb gaveH5414 her both the upperH5942 and lowerH8482 springsH1543.
