Ephraim’s Inheritance
1The allotmentH1486 for the descendantsH1121 of JosephH3130 extendedH3318 from the JordanH3383 at JerichoH3405 to the watersH4325 of JerichoH3405 on the eastH4217, through the wildernessH4057 that goes upH5927 from JerichoH3405 into the hill countryH2022 of BethelH1008. 2It went onH3318 fromH1008 BethelH1008 (that is, LuzH3870)1 and proceededH5674 toH413 the borderH1366 of the ArchitesH757 in AtarothH5852. 3Then it descendedH3381 westwardH3220 toH413 the borderH1366 of the JaphletitesH3311 asH5704 far as the borderH1366 ofH1032 LowerH8481 Beth-horonH1032 and on toH5704 GezerH1507, and it endedH1961H8444 at the SeaH3220.2
4So EphraimH669 and ManassehH4519, the sonsH1121 of JosephH3130, received their inheritanceH5157. 5This wasH1961 the territoryH1366 of the descendantsH1121 of EphraimH669 by their clansH4940H1961:
The borderH1366 of their inheritanceH5159 went from Ataroth-addarH5853H5704 in the eastH4217 to UpperH5945 Beth-horonH1032 6and out towardH3318 the SeaH3220. From MichmethathH4366 on the northH6828 itH1366 turnedH5437 eastwardH4217 toward Taanath-shilohH8387 and passed byH5674 itH853 to JanoahH3239 on the eastH4217. 7From JanoahH3239 it went downH3381 to AtarothH5852 and NaarahH5292, and then reachedH6293 JerichoH3405 and came outH3318 at the JordanH3383. 8From TappuahH8599 the borderH1366 wentH1980 westwardH3220 to the BrookH5158 of KanahH7071 and endedH1961H8444 at the SeaH3220.
ThisH2063 was the inheritanceH5159 of the clansH4940 of the tribeH4294 of EphraimH1121H669, 9along with allH3605 the citiesH5892 and villagesH2691 set apartH3995 for the descendantsH1121 of EphraimH669 withinH8432 the inheritanceH5159 of ManassehH1121H4519. 10But they did notH3808 drive outH3423 the CanaanitesH3669 who livedH3427 in GezerH1507. So the CanaanitesH3669 dwellH3427 amongH7130 the EphraimitesH669 toH5704 thisH2088 dayH3117, but they areH1961 forcedH4522 laborersH5647.
