8Theyזִקְנֵ֨י גִלְעָ֜דzik.Nei gil.'AdH2205 H1568answeredוַיֹּאמְרוּ֩vai.yo.me.RuH559Jephthahיִפְתָּ֗חyif.TachH3316, “This is whyלָכֵן֙la.KhenH3651we nowעַתָּה֙'a.TahH6258turnאֶל־ שַׁ֣בְנוּ'el- Shav.nuH7725 H413to youאֵלֶ֔יךָ'e.Lei.khaH413,that you may goוְהָלַכְתָּ֣ve.ha.lakh.TaH1980with usעִמָּ֔נוּ'i.Ma.nuH5973,fightוְנִלְחַמְתָּ֖ve.nil.cham.TaH3898the Ammonitesבִּבְנֵ֣י עַמּ֑וֹןbiv.Nei a.MonH1121 H5983,and becomeוְהָיִ֤יתָve.ha.Yi.taH1961leaderלְרֹ֔אשׁle.RoshH7218over allלְכֹ֖לle.KholH3605of uswho liveיֹשְׁבֵ֥יyo.she.VeiH3427in Gileadגִלְעָֽד׃gil.'AdH1568.”

9But Jephthahיִפְתָּ֜חyif.TachH3316askedוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559themאֶל־ זִקְנֵ֣י גִלְעָ֗ד'el- zik.Nei gil.'AdH413 H2205 H1568, “Ifאִם־'im-H518youאַתֶּ֤ם'a.TemH859אוֹתִי֙'o.TiH853take me backמְשִׁיבִ֨יםme.shi.VimH7725to fightלְהִלָּחֵם֙le.hi.la.ChemH3898the Ammonitesבִּבְנֵ֣י עַמּ֔וֹןbiv.Nei a.MonH1121 H5983and the LORDיְהוָ֛הYah.wehH3068אוֹתָ֖ם'o.TamH853gives themוְנָתַ֧ןve.na.TanH5414to meלְפָנָ֑יle.fa.NaiH6440,will Iאָנֹכִ֕י'a.no.KhiH595really beאֶהְיֶ֥ה'eh.YehH1961yourleaderלְרֹֽאשׁ׃le.RoshH7218?”

10And the eldersזִקְנֵֽי־zik.nei-H2205of Gileadגִלְעָ֖דgil.'AdH1568saidוַיֹּאמְר֥וּvai.yo.me.RuH559toאֶל־'el-H413Jephthahיִפְתָּ֑חyif.TachH3316, “The LORDיְהוָ֗הYah.wehH3068isיִהְיֶ֤הyih.YehH1961our witnessשֹׁמֵ֙עַ֙ בֵּֽינוֹתֵ֔ינוּsho.Me.a' bei.no.Tei.nuH8085 H996ifאִם־'im-H518we do notלֹ֥אlo'H3808doנַעֲשֶֽׂה׃na.'a.SehH6213as you sayכִדְבָרְךָ֖ כֵּ֥ןkhid.va.re.Kha kenH1697 H3651.”

12Then Jephthahיִפְתָּח֙yif.TachH3316sentוַיִּשְׁלַ֤חvai.yish.LachH7971messengersמַלְאָכִ֔יםmal.'a.KhimH4397toאֶל־'el-H413the kingמֶ֥לֶךְMe.lekhH4428of the Ammonitesבְּנֵֽי־ עַמּ֖וֹןbe.nei- a.MonH1121 H5983,sayingלֵאמֹ֑רle.MorH559, “Whatמַה־mah-H4100do you have against methatכִּֽי־ki-H3588you have comeבָ֥אתָVa.taH935to fightלְהִלָּחֵ֥םle.hi.la.ChemH3898againstאֵלַ֖י'e.LaiH413my landבְּאַרְצִֽי׃be.'ar.TziH776?”

16Butכִּ֖יkiH3588when Israel came upבַּעֲלוֹתָ֣םba.'a.lo.TamH5927out of Egyptמִמִּצְרָ֑יִםmi.mitz.Ra.yimH4714, theyיִשְׂרָאֵ֤לYis.ra.'ElH3478traveledוַיֵּ֨לֶךְvai.Ye.lekhH1980through the wildernessבַּמִּדְבָּר֙ba.mid.BarH4057toעַד־'ad-H5704the Redס֔וּףSufH5488Seaיַם־yam-H3220and cameוַיָּבֹ֖אvai.ya.Vo'H935to Kadeshקָדֵֽשָׁה׃ka.De.shahH6946.

17Then Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֣לYis.ra.'ElH3478sentוַיִּשְׁלַ֣חvai.yish.LachH7971messengersמַלְאָכִ֣ים׀mal.'a.KhimH4397toאֶל־'el-H413the kingמֶלֶךְ֩me.leKhH4428of Edomאֱד֨וֹם׀'e.DomH123,sayingלֵאמֹ֜רle.MorH559, ‘Pleaseנָּ֣אna'H4994let us passאֶעְבְּרָה־'e'.be.rah-H5674through your landבְאַרְצֶ֗ךָve.'ar.Tze.khaH776,’but the kingמֶ֣לֶךְMe.lekhH4428of Edomאֱד֔וֹם'e.DomH123would notוְלֹ֤אve.Lo'H3808listenשָׁמַע֙sha.Ma'H8085.They alsoוְגַ֨םve.GamH1571sentשָׁלַ֖חsha.LachH7971messengers toאֶל־'el-H413the kingמֶ֧לֶךְMe.lekhH4428of Moabמוֹאָ֛בmo.'AvH4124,but he would notוְלֹ֣אve.Lo'H3808consentאָבָ֑ה'a.VahH14.So Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478stayedוַיֵּ֥שֶׁבvai.Ye.shevH3427in Kadeshבְּקָדֵֽשׁ׃be.ka.DeshH6946.
