17So Joseph imprisoned themוַיֶּאֱסֹ֥ףvai.ye.'e.SofH622אֹתָ֛ם'o.TamH853אֶל־'el-H413מִשְׁמָ֖רmish.MarH4929for threeשְׁלֹ֥שֶׁתshe.Lo.shetH7969daysיָמִֽים׃ya.MimH3117,

18and on the thirdהַשְּׁלִישִׁ֔יha.she.li.ShiH7992dayבַּיּ֣וֹםbai.YomH3117heיוֹסֵף֙yo.SefH3130saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to themאֲלֵהֶ֤ם'a.le.HemH413אֶת־'et-H853, “Iאֲנִ֥י'a.NiH589fearיָרֵֽא׃ya.Re'H3373Godהָאֱלֹהִ֖יםha.'E.lo.HimH430.So doעֲשׂ֖וּ'a.SuH6213thisזֹ֥אתzotH2063and you will liveוִֽחְי֑וּvich.YuH2421:

19Ifאִם־'im-H518youאַתֶּ֔ם אֲחִיכֶ֣ם'a.Tem 'a.chi.KhemH859 H251are honestכֵּנִ֣יםke.NimH3651,leave oneאֶחָ֔ד'e.ChadH259of your brothers in custodyיֵאָסֵ֖ר בְּבֵ֣ית מִשְׁמַרְכֶ֑םye.'a.Ser be.Veit mish.mar.KhemH631 H1004 H4929while the rest of youוְאַתֶּם֙ve.'a.TemH859goלְכ֣וּle.KhuH1980and take backהָבִ֔יאוּha.Vi.'uH935grainשֶׁ֖בֶרShe.verH7668to relieve the hungerרַעֲב֥וֹןra.'a.VonH7459of your householdsבָּתֵּיכֶֽם׃ba.tei.KhemH1004.

20Thenוְאֶת־ve.'EtH853bringתָּבִ֣יאוּta.Vi.'uH935your youngestהַקָּטֹן֙ha.ka.TonH6996brotherאֲחִיכֶ֤ם'a.chi.KhemH251to meאֵלַ֔י'e.LaiH413so that your wordsדִבְרֵיכֶ֖םdiv.rei.KhemH1697can be verifiedוְיֵאָמְנ֥וּve.ye.'a.me.NuH539,that you may notוְלֹ֣אve.Lo'H3808dieתָמ֑וּתוּta.Mu.tuH4191.”And to thisכֵֽן׃KhenH3651they consentedוַיַּעֲשׂוּ־vai.ya.'a.su-H6213.

21Then they saidוַיֹּאמְר֞וּvai.yo.me.RuH559toאֶל־'el-H413oneאִ֣ישׁ'ishH376anotherאָחִ֗יו'a.ChivH251, “Surelyאֲבָל֮'a.ValH61weאֲנַחְנוּ֮'a.nach.NuH587are being punishedאֲשֵׁמִ֣ים׀'a.she.MimH818because ofעַל־'al-H5921our brotherאָחִינוּ֒'a.chi.NuH251אֲשֶׁ֨ר'a.SherH834.We sawרָאִ֜ינוּra.'I.nuH7200hisנַפְשׁ֛וֹnaf.ShoH5315anguishצָרַ֥תtza.RatH6869when he pleadedבְּהִתְחַֽנְנ֥וֹbe.hit.cha.NoH2603with usאֵלֵ֖ינוּ'e.Lei.nuH413,but we would notוְלֹ֣אve.Lo'H3808listenשָׁמָ֑עְנוּsha.Ma.'e.nuH8085.That is whyעַל־ כֵּן֙'al- kenH5921 H3651thisהַזֹּֽאת׃ha.ZotH2063distressהַצָּרָ֖הha.tza.RahH6869has comeבָּ֣אָהBa.'ahH935upon usאֵלֵ֔ינוּ'e.Lei.nuH413.”

22And Reubenרְאוּבֵ֨ןre.'u.VenH7205אֹתָ֜ם'o.TamH853respondedוַיַּעַן֩vai.ya.'AnH6030, “Didn’tהֲלוֹא֩ אֲלֵיכֶ֧ם׀ha.lO' 'a.lei.KhemH3808 H559 H413I tellH559you notאַל־'al-H408to sin againstתֶּחֶטְא֥וּte.chet.'UH2398the boyבַיֶּ֖לֶדvai.Ye.ledH3206?But you would notוְלֹ֣אve.Lo'H3808listenשְׁמַעְתֶּ֑ם וְגַם־she.ma'.Tem ve.gam-H8085 H1571.Nowהִנֵּ֥הhi.NehH2009we must account forנִדְרָֽשׁ׃nid.RashH1875his bloodדָּמ֖וֹda.MoH1818!”
