13Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֜לYis.ra.'ElH3478saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559toאֶל־'el-H413himיוֹסֵ֗ףyo.SefH3130, “Are notהֲל֤וֹאha.Lo'H3808your brothersאַחֶ֙יךָ֙'a.Chei.khaH251pasturingרֹעִ֣יםro.'ImH7462the flocks at Shechemבִּשְׁכֶ֔םbish.KhemH7927?Get readyלְכָ֖הle.KhahH1980;I am sendingוְאֶשְׁלָחֲךָ֣ve.'esh.la.cha.KhaH7971you to themאֲלֵיהֶ֑ם'a.lei.HemH413.” “I am readyהִנֵּֽנִי׃hi.Ne.niH2009,”Joseph repliedוַיֹּ֥אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559.

14Then Israel toldוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559him, “Goלֶךְ־lekh-H1980nowנָ֨אna'H4994and seeרְאֵ֜הre.'EhH7200אֶת־'et-H853שְׁל֤וֹםshe.LomH7965how your brothersאַחֶ֙יךָ֙'a.Chei.khaH251וְאֶת־ve.'EtH853and the flocksהַצֹּ֔אןha.TzonH6629are faringשְׁל֣וֹםshe.LomH7965,and bring wordדָּבָ֑רda.VarH1697back to meוַהֲשִׁבֵ֖נִיva.ha.shi.Ve.niH7725.”So he sent him offוַיִּשְׁלָחֵ֙הוּ֙vai.yish.la.Che.huH7971from the Valleyמֵעֵ֣מֶקme.'E.mekH6010of Hebronחֶבְר֔וֹןchev.RonH2275.And when Joseph arrivedוַיָּבֹ֖אvai.ya.Vo'H935in Shechemשְׁכֶֽמָה׃she.Khe.mahH7927,

15וְהִנֵּ֥הve.hi.NehH2009a manאִ֔ישׁ'IshH376found himוַיִּמְצָאֵ֣הוּvai.yim.tza.'E.huH4672wanderingתֹעֶ֖הto.'EhH8582in the fieldבַּשָּׂדֶ֑הba.sa.DehH7704and askedוַיִּשְׁאָלֵ֧הוּ הָאִ֛ישׁ לֵאמֹ֖רvai.yish.'a.Le.hu ha.'Ish le.MorH7592 H376 H559, “Whatמַה־mah-H4100are you looking forתְּבַקֵּֽשׁ׃te.va.KeshH1245?”

16“I amאָנֹכִ֣י'a.no.KhiH595looking forמְבַקֵּ֑שׁme.va.KeshH1245my brothersאַחַ֖י'a.ChaiH251,”Joseph repliedוַיֹּ֕אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559אֶת־'et-H853. “Can you please tellהַגִּֽידָה־ נָּ֣אha.gi.dah- na'H5046 H4994mewhereאֵיפֹ֖ה'ei.FohH375theyהֵ֥םhemH1992are pasturing their flocksרֹעִֽים׃ro.'ImH7462?”

17“They have moved onנָסְע֣וּna.se.'UH5265from hereמִזֶּ֔ה כִּ֤יmi.Zeh kiH2088 H3588,”the manהָאִישׁ֙ha.'IshH376answeredוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559. “I heard themשָׁמַ֙עְתִּי֙sha.Ma'.tiH8085sayאֹֽמְרִ֔ים'o.me.RimH559, ‘Let us goנֵלְכָ֖הne.le.KhahH1980to Dothanדֹּתָ֑יְנָהdo.Ta.ye.nahH1886.’”So Josephיוֹסֵף֙yo.SefH3130set outוַיֵּ֤לֶךְvai.Ye.lekhH1980afterאַחַ֣ר'a.CharH310his brothersאֶחָ֔יו'e.ChavH251and found themוַיִּמְצָאֵ֖םvai.yim.tza.'EmH4672at Dothanבְּדֹתָֽן׃be.do.TanH1886.

18Now Joseph’s brothers sawוַיִּרְא֥וּvai.yir.'UH7200himאֹת֖וֹ'o.ToH853in the distanceמֵרָחֹ֑קme.ra.ChokH7350,and beforeוּבְטֶ֙רֶם֙u.ve.Te.remH2962he arrivedיִקְרַ֣ב אֲלֵיהֶ֔םyik.Rav 'a.lei.HemH7126 H413,they plottedוַיִּֽתְנַכְּל֥וּvai.yit.na.ke.LuH5230אֹת֖וֹ'o.ToH853to kill himלַהֲמִיתֽוֹ׃la.ha.mi.ToH4191.

19“Hereהִנֵּ֗הhi.NehH2009comesבָּֽא׃Ba'H935thatהַלָּזֶ֖הha.la.ZehH1976dreamerבַּ֛עַל הַחֲלֹמ֥וֹתBa.'al ha.cha.lo.MotH1167 H2472!”they saidוַיֹּאמְר֖וּvai.yo.me.RuH559toאֶל־'el-H413oneאִ֣ישׁ'ishH376anotherאָחִ֑יו'a.ChivH251.

20“Comeלְכ֣וּle.KhuH1980nowוְעַתָּ֣ה׀ve.'a.TahH6258,let us kill himוְנַֽהַרְגֵ֗הוּve.na.har.Ge.huH2026and throw himוְנַשְׁלִכֵ֙הוּ֙ve.nash.li.Khe.huH7993into oneבְּאַחַ֣דbe.'a.ChadH259of the pitsהַבֹּר֔וֹתha.bo.RotH953.We can sayוְאָמַ֕רְנוּve.'a.Mar.nuH559that a viciousרָעָ֖הra.'AhH7451animalחַיָּ֥הchai.YahH2416has devoured himאֲכָלָ֑תְהוּ'a.kha.La.te.huH398.Then we shall seeוְנִרְאֶ֕הve.nir.'EhH7200whatמַה־mah-H4100becomesיִּהְי֖וּyih.YuH1961of his dreamsחֲלֹמֹתָֽיו׃cha.lo.mo.TavH2472!”

21When Reubenרְאוּבֵ֔ןre.'u.VenH7205heardוַיִּשְׁמַ֣עvai.yish.Ma'H8085this,he tried to rescueוַיַּצִּלֵ֖הוּvai.ya.tzi.Le.huH5337Josephfrom their handsמִיָּדָ֑םmi.ya.DamH3027. “Let us notלֹ֥אlo'H3808takeנַכֶּ֖נּוּna.Ke.nuH5221his lifeנָֽפֶשׁ׃Na.feshH5315,”he saidוַיֹּ֕אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559.

22“Do not shedתִּשְׁפְּכוּ־tish.pe.khu-H8210hisbloodדָם֒damH1818.Throwהַשְׁלִ֣יכוּhash.Li.khuH7993himאֹת֗וֹ'o.ToH853intoאֲלֵהֶ֣ם׀'a.le.HemH413thisהַזֶּה֙ha.ZehH2088אֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834pitהַבּ֤וֹרha.BorH953in the wildernessבַּמִּדְבָּ֔רba.mid.BarH4057,but do notאַל־'al-H408layתִּשְׁלְחוּ־tish.le.chu-H7971a handוְיָ֖דve.YadH3027on him.”Reubenרְאוּבֵן֮ אַל־re.'u.Ven 'al-H7205 H408said thisוַיֹּ֨אמֶר אֶל־vai.Yo.mer 'el-H559 H413so thatלְמַ֗עַןle.Ma.'anH4616he could rescueהַצִּ֤ילha.TzilH5337Josephאֹתוֹ֙'o.ToH853from their handsמִיָּדָ֔םmi.ya.DamH3027and return himלַהֲשִׁיב֖וֹla.ha.shi.VoH7725toאֶל־'el-H413his fatherאָבִֽיו׃'a.VivH1.

23Soוַֽיְהִ֕יvay.HiH1961whenכַּֽאֲשֶׁר־ka.'a.Sher-H834Josephיוֹסֵ֖ףyo.SefH3130cameבָּ֥אba'H935toאֶל־'el-H413his brothersאֶחָ֑יו'e.ChavH251,they strippedוַיַּפְשִׁ֤יטוּvai.yaf.Shi.tuH6584אֶת־'et-H853himיוֹסֵף֙yo.SefH3130אֶת־'et-H853of his robeכֻּתָּנְתּ֔וֹku.ta.ne.ToH3801אֶת־'et-H853—the robeכְּתֹ֥נֶתke.To.netH3801of many colorsהַפַּסִּ֖יםha.pa.SimH6446אֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834he was wearingעָלָֽיו׃'a.LavH5921—

24and they took himוַיִּ֨קָּחֻ֔הוּvai.Yi.ka.Chu.huH3947and threwוַיַּשְׁלִ֥כוּvai.yash.Li.khuH7993himאֹת֖וֹ'o.ToH853into the pitהַבֹּ֑רָהha.Bo.rahH953.Now the pitוְהַבּ֣וֹרve.ha.BorH953was emptyרֵ֔קRekH7386,with noאֵ֥ין'einH369waterמָֽיִם׃Ma.yimH4325in it.

25And as they sat downוַיֵּשְׁבוּ֮vai.ye.she.VuH3427to eatלֶֽאֱכָל־le.'e.khol-H398a mealלֶחֶם֒le.ChemH3899,they looked upוַיִּשְׂא֤וּ עֵֽינֵיהֶם֙ וַיִּרְא֔וּvai.yis.'U 'ei.nei.Hem vai.yir.'UH5375 H5869 H7200and sawוְהִנֵּה֙ve.hi.NehH2009a caravanאֹרְחַ֣ת'o.re.ChatH736of Ishmaelitesיִשְׁמְעֵאלִ֔יםyish.me.'e.LimH3459comingבָּאָ֖הba.'AhH935from Gileadמִגִּלְעָ֑דmi.gil.'AdH1568.Their camelsוּגְמַלֵּיהֶ֣םu.ge.ma.lei.HemH1581were carryingנֹֽשְׂאִ֗יםno.se.'ImH5375spicesנְכֹאת֙ne.khoTH5219,balmוּצְרִ֣יu.tze.RiH6875,and myrrhוָלֹ֔טva.LotH3910on their wayהוֹלְכִ֖יםhol.KhimH1980downלְהוֹרִ֥ידle.ho.RidH3381to Egyptמִצְרָֽיְמָה׃mitz.Ra.ye.mahH4714.

26Then Judahיְהוּדָ֖הye.hu.DahH3063saidוַיֹּ֥אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559toאֶל־'el-H413his brothersאֶחָ֑יו'e.ChavH251, “Whatמַה־mah-H4100profit will we gainבֶּ֗צַעBe.tza'H1215ifכִּ֤יkiH3588we killנַהֲרֹג֙na.ha.RogH2026אֶת־'et-H853our brotherאָחִ֔ינוּ'a.Chi.nuH251and cover upוְכִסִּ֖ינוּve.khi.Si.nuH3680אֶת־'et-H853his bloodדָּמֽוֹ׃da.MoH1818?

27Comeלְכ֞וּle.KhuH1980,let us sell himוְנִמְכְּרֶ֣נּוּve.nim.ke.Re.nuH4376to the Ishmaelitesלַיִּשְׁמְעֵאלִ֗יםlai.yish.me.'e.LimH3459and notאַל־'al-H408layתְּהִי־te.hi-H1961a handוְיָדֵ֙נוּ֙ve.ya.De.nuH3027on him;forכִּֽי־ki-H3588heה֑וּאHu'H1931is our brotherאָחִ֥ינוּ'a.Chi.nuH251,our own fleshבְשָׂרֵ֖נוּve.sa.Re.nuH1320.”And theyאֶחָֽיו׃'e.ChavH251agreedוַֽיִּשְׁמְע֖וּvai.yish.me.'UH8085.

30returnedוַיָּ֥שָׁבvai.Ya.shovH7725toאֶל־'el-H413his brothersאֶחָ֖יו'e.ChavH251,and saidוַיֹּאמַ֑רvai.yo.MarH559, “The boyהַיֶּ֣לֶדhai.Ye.ledH3206is goneאֵינֶ֔נּוּ'ei.Ne.nuH369!What am I going to doאָ֥נָה בָֽא׃'A.nah Va'H589 H575 H935?”

31Then they tookוַיִּקְח֖וּvai.yik.ChuH3947אֶת־'et-H853Joseph’sיוֹסֵ֑ףyo.SefH3130robeכְּתֹ֣נֶתke.To.netH3801,slaughteredוַֽיִּשְׁחֲטוּ֙vai.yish.cha.TuH7819a young goatשְׂעִ֣יר עִזִּ֔יםse.'Ir 'i.ZimH8163 H5795,and dippedוַיִּטְבְּל֥וּvai.yit.be.LuH2881אֶת־'et-H853the robeהַכֻּתֹּ֖נֶתha.ku.To.netH3801in its bloodבַּדָּֽם׃ba.DamH1818.

32They sentוַֽיְשַׁלְּח֞וּvay.sha.le.ChuH7971אֶת־'et-H853the robeכְּתֹ֣נֶתke.To.netH3801of many colorsהַפַּסִּ֗ים וַיָּבִ֙יאוּ֙ha.pa.Sim vai.ya.Vi.'uH6446 H935toאֶל־'el-H413their fatherאֲבִיהֶ֔ם'a.vi.HemH1and saidוַיֹּאמְר֖וּvai.yo.me.RuH559, “We foundמָצָ֑אנוּma.Tza.nuH4672thisזֹ֣אתzotH2063.Examine itהַכֶּר־ha.ker-H5234to see whetherנָ֗אNa'H4994itהִ֖ואhi'H1931isyour son’sבִּנְךָ֛bin.KhaH1121robeהַכְּתֹ֧נֶתha.ke.To.netH3801orאִם־'im-H518notלֹֽא׃Lo'H3808.”

33His father recognized itוַיַּכִּירָ֤הּvai.ya.ki.RahH5234and saidוַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙vai.Yo.merH559, “It is my son’sבְּנִ֔יbe.NiH1121robeכְּתֹ֣נֶתke.To.netH3801!A viciousרָעָ֖הra.'AhH7451animalחַיָּ֥הchai.YahH2416has devoured himאֲכָלָ֑תְהוּ'a.kha.La.te.huH398.Josephיוֹסֵֽף׃yo.SefH3130has surely been torn to piecesH2963!”

34Then Jacobיַעֲקֹב֙ya.'a.KoH3290toreוַיִּקְרַ֤עvai.yik.Ra'H7167his clothesשִׂמְלֹתָ֔יוsim.lo.TavH8071,putוַיָּ֥שֶׂםvai.Ya.semH7760sackclothשַׂ֖קsakH8242around his waistבְּמָתְנָ֑יוbe.ma.te.NavH4975,and mournedוַיִּתְאַבֵּ֥לvai.yit.'a.BelH56forעַל־'al-H5921his sonבְּנ֖וֹbe.NoH1121manyרַבִּֽים׃ra.BimH7227daysיָמִ֥יםya.MimH3117.

35וַיָּקֻמוּ֩vai.ya.ku.MuH6965Allכָל־khol-H3605his sonsבָּנָ֨יו וְכָל־ba.Nav ve.kholH1121 H3605and daughtersבְּנֹתָ֜יוbe.no.TavH1323tried to comfort himלְנַחֲמ֗וֹle.na.cha.MoH5162,but he refusedוַיְמָאֵן֙vay.ma.'EnH3985to be comfortedלְהִתְנַחֵ֔םle.hit.na.ChemH5162. “No,” he saidוַיֹּ֕אמֶר כִּֽי־vai.Yo.mer ki-H559 H3588. “I will go downאֵרֵ֧ד'e.RedH3381to Sheolשְׁאֹ֑לָהshe.'O.lahH7585mourningאָבֵ֖ל'a.VelH57forאֶל־'el-H413my sonבְּנִ֛יbe.NiH1121.”So his fatherאָבִֽיו׃'a.VivH1weptוַיֵּ֥בְךְּvai.Ye.vekH1058for himאֹת֖וֹ'o.ToH853.
