1Now the serpentוְהַנָּחָשׁ֙ve.ha.na.ChashH5175wasהָיָ֣הha.YahH1961more craftyעָר֔וּם'a.RumH6175than anyמִכֹּל֙mi.KolH3605beastחַיַּ֣תchai.YatH2416of the fieldהַשָּׂדֶ֔הha.sa.DehH7704thatאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834the LORDיְהוָ֣הYah.wehH3068Godאֱלֹהִ֑ים'E.lo.HimH430had madeעָשָׂ֖ה'a.SahH6213.And he saidוַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙vai.Yo.merH559toאֶל־'el-H413the womanהָ֣אִשָּׁ֔הha.'i.ShahH802, “Did Godאֱלֹהִ֔ים'E.lo.HimH430reallyאַ֚ף כִּֽי־'af ki-H3588 H637sayאָמַ֣ר'a.MarH559, ‘You must notלֹ֣אlo'H3808eatתֹֽאכְל֔וּto.khe.LuH398from anyמִכֹּ֖לmi.KolH3605treeעֵ֥ץ'etzH6086in the gardenהַגָּֽן׃ha.GANH1588?’”

2The womanהָֽאִשָּׁ֖הha.'i.ShahH802answeredוַתֹּ֥אמֶר אֶל־va.To.mer 'el-H559 H413the serpentהַנָּחָ֑שׁha.na.ChashH5175, “We may eatנֹאכֵֽל׃no.KhelH398the fruitמִפְּרִ֥יmi.pe.RiH6529of the treesעֵֽץ־'etz-H6086of the gardenהַגָּ֖ןha.GanH1588,

3but about the fruitוּמִפְּרִ֣יu.mi.pe.RiH6529of the treeהָעֵץ֮ha.'EtzH6086אֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834in the middleבְּתוֹךְ־be.tokh-H8432of the gardenהַגָּן֒ha.GanH1588,Godאֱלֹהִ֗ים'E.lo.HimH430has saidאָמַ֣ר'a.MarH559, ‘You must notלֹ֤אlo'H3808eatתֹֽאכְלוּ֙to.khe.LuH398of itמִמֶּ֔נּוּmi.Me.nuH4480orוְלֹ֥אve.Lo'H3808touchתִגְּע֖וּti.ge.'UH5060it, orפֶּן־pen-H6435you will dieתְּמֻתֽוּן׃te.mu.TunH4191.’”

4“You will notלֹֽא־lo'-H3808surely dieH4191,”the serpentהַנָּחָ֖שׁha.na.ChashH5175toldוַיֹּ֥אמֶר אֶל־vai.Yo.mer 'el-H559 H413the womanהָֽאִשָּׁ֑הha.'i.ShahH802.

5“Forכִּ֚יkiH3588Godאֱלֹהִ֔ים'E.lo.HimH430knowsיֹדֵ֣עַyo.De.a'H3045thatכִּ֗יKiH3588in the dayבְּיוֹם֙be.yOmH3117you eatאֲכָלְכֶ֣ם'a.khal.KhemH398of itמִמֶּ֔נּוּmi.Me.nuH4480,your eyesעֵֽינֵיכֶ֑ם'ei.nei.KhemH5869will beוִהְיִיתֶם֙vih.yi.TemH1961openedוְנִפְקְח֖וּve.nif.ke.ChuH6491and you will be like Godכֵּֽאלֹהִ֔יםke.lo.HimH430,knowingיֹדְעֵ֖יyo.de.'EiH3045goodט֥וֹבTovH2896and evilוָרָֽע׃va.Ra'H7451.”

6When the womanהָֽאִשָּׁ֡הha.'i.ShahH802sawוַתֵּ֣רֶאva.Te.re'H7200thatכִּ֣יkiH3588the treeהָעֵ֨ץha.'EtzH6086wasgoodטוֹב֩tOvH2896for foodלְמַאֲכָ֜לle.ma.'a.KhalH3978andוְכִ֧יve.KhiH3588ה֣וּאhu'H1931pleasingתַֽאֲוָה־ta.'a.vah-H8378to the eyesלָעֵינַ֗יִםla.'ei.Na.yimH5869, and that it wasהָעֵץ֙ha.'EtzH6086desirableוְנֶחְמָ֤דve.nech.MadH2530for obtaining wisdomלְהַשְׂכִּ֔ילle.has.KilH7919,she tookוַתִּקַּ֥חva.ti.KachH3947the fruitמִפִּרְי֖וֹmi.pir.YoH6529and ate itוַתֹּאכַ֑לva.to.KhalH398.She also gaveוַתִּתֵּ֧ן גַּם־va.ti.Ten gam-H5414 H1571someto her husbandלְאִישָׁ֛הּle.'i.ShahH376who waswith herעִמָּ֖הּ'i.MahH5973,and he ate itוַיֹּאכַֽל׃vai.yo.KhalH398.

7And the eyesעֵינֵ֣י'ei.NeiH5869of both of themשְׁנֵיהֶ֔םshe.nei.HemH8147were openedוַתִּפָּקַ֙חְנָה֙va.ti.pa.Kach.nahH6491,and theyהֵ֑םHemH1992knewוַיֵּ֣דְע֔וּvai.Ye.de.'UH3045thatכִּ֥יkiH3588they were nakedעֵֽירֻמִּ֖ם'ei.ru.MimH5903;so they sewed togetherוַֽיִּתְפְּרוּ֙vai.yit.pe.RuH8609figתְאֵנָ֔הte.'e.NahH8384leavesעֲלֵ֣ה'a.LehH5929and madeוַיַּעֲשׂ֥וּvai.ya.'a.SuH6213coveringsחֲגֹרֹֽת׃cha.go.RotH2290for themselves.

8Then the manהָֽאָדָ֜םha.'a.DamH120and his wifeוְאִשְׁתּ֗וֹve.'ish.ToH802heardוַֽיִּשְׁמְע֞וּvai.yish.me.'UH8085אֶת־'et-H853the voiceק֨וֹלKolH6963of the LORDיְהוָ֧הYah.wehH3068Godאֱלֹהִ֛ים'E.lo.HimH430walkingמִתְהַלֵּ֥ךְmit.ha.LekhH1980in the gardenבַּגָּ֖ןba.GanH1588in the breezeלְר֣וּחַle.Ru.achH7307of the dayהַיּ֑וֹםhai.YomH3117,and they hid themselvesוַיִּתְחַבֵּ֨אvai.yit.cha.Be'H2244from the presenceמִפְּנֵי֙mi.pe.NeiH6440of the LORDיְהוָ֣הYah.wehH3068Godאֱלֹהִ֔ים'E.lo.HimH430amongבְּת֖וֹךְbe.TokhH8432the treesעֵ֥ץ'etzH6086of the gardenהַגָּֽן׃ha.GanH1588.

9But the LORDיְהוָ֥הYah.wehH3068Godאֱלֹהִ֖ים'E.lo.HimH430called outוַיִּקְרָ֛אvai.yik.Ra'H7121toאֶל־'el-H413the manהָֽאָדָ֑םha.'a.DamH120וַיֹּ֥אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Where are youאַיֶּֽכָּה׃'ai.Ye.kahH335?”

10“I heardשָׁמַ֖עְתִּיsha.Ma'.tiH8085Your voiceקֹלְךָ֥ko.le.ChaH6963in the gardenבַּגָּ֑ןba.GanH1588,”he repliedוַיֹּ֕אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559אֶת־'et-H853, “and I was afraidוָאִירָ֛אva.'i.Ra'H3372becauseכִּֽי־ki-H3588Iאָנֹ֖כִי'a.No.khiH595wasnakedעֵירֹ֥ם'ei.RomH5903;so I hid myselfוָאֵחָבֵֽא׃va.'e.cha.Ve'H2244.”

11“Whoמִ֚יmiH4310toldהִגִּ֣ידhi.GidH5046youאָ֑תָּה'A.tahH859thatכִּ֥יkiH3588you were nakedעֵירֹ֖ם'ei.RomH5903?”askedוַיֹּ֕אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559the LORD God. “Have you eatenאֲכָל־'a.khol-H398fromהֲמִן־ha.min-H4480the treeהָעֵ֗ץha.'EtzH6086of whichאֲשֶׁ֧ר'a.SherH834I commanded youצִוִּיתִ֛יךָtzi.vi.Ti.khaH6680not toלְבִלְתִּ֥יle.vil.TiH1115eatאָכָֽלְתָּ׃'a.Khal.taH398מִמֶּ֖נּוּmi.Me.nuH4480?”

12And the manהָֽאָדָ֑םha.'a.DamH120answeredוַיֹּ֖אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “The womanהָֽאִשָּׁה֙ha.'i.ShahH802whomאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834You gaveנָתַ֣תָּהna.Ta.tahH5414meעִמָּדִ֔י'i.ma.DiH5978,sheהִ֛ואhi'H1931gaveנָֽתְנָה־na.te.nah-H5414me fruitfromמִן־min-H4480the treeהָעֵ֖ץha.'EtzH6086,and I ate itוָאֹכֵֽל׃va.'o.KhelH398.”

13Then the LORDיְהוָ֧הYah.wehH3068Godאֱלֹהִ֛ים'E.lo.HimH430saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to the womanלָאִשָּׁ֖הla.'i.ShahH802, “Whatמַה־mah-H4100isthisזֹּ֣אתzotH2063you have doneעָשִׂ֑ית'a.SitH6213?” “The serpentהַנָּחָ֥שׁha.na.ChashH5175deceived meהִשִּׁיאַ֖נִיhi.shi.'A.niH5377,” sheהָֽאִשָּׁ֔הha.'i.ShahH802repliedוַתֹּ֙אמֶר֙va.To.merH559, “and I ateוָאֹכֵֽל׃va.'o.KhelH398.”

14So the LORDיְהֹוָ֨הYah.wehH3068Godאֱלֹהִ֥ים׀'E.lo.HimH430saidוַיֹּאמֶר֩vai.yo.MerH559toאֶֽל־'el-H413the serpentהַנָּחָשׁ֮ha.na.ChashH5175: “Becauseכִּ֣יkiH3588you have doneעָשִׂ֣יתָ'a.Si.taH6213thisזֹּאת֒zoTH2063,cursedאָר֤וּר'a.RurH779are youאַתָּה֙'a.TahH859above allמִכָּל־mi.kolH3605livestockהַבְּהֵמָ֔הha.be.he.MahH929and everyוּמִכֹּ֖לu.mi.KolH3605beastחַיַּ֣תchai.YatH2416of the fieldהַשָּׂדֶ֑הha.sa.DehH7704!Onעַל־'al-H5921your bellyגְּחֹנְךָ֣ge.cho.ne.KhaH1512will you goתֵלֵ֔ךְte.LekhH1980,and dustוְעָפָ֥רve.'a.FarH6083you will eatתֹּאכַ֖לto.KhalH398,allכָּל־kol-H3605the daysיְמֵ֥יye.MeiH3117of your lifeחַיֶּֽיךָ׃chai.Yei.khaH2416.

15Andבֵּֽינְךָ֙bei.ne.KhaH996I will putאָשִׁ֗ית'a.ShitH7896enmityוְאֵיבָ֣ה׀ve.'ei.VahH342betweenוּבֵ֣יןu.VeinH996youand the womanהָֽאִשָּׁ֔הha.'i.ShahH802,and betweenוּבֵ֥יןu.VeinH996your seedזַרְעֲךָ֖ וּבֵ֣יןzar.'a.Kha u.VeinH2233 H996and her seedזַרְעָ֑הּzar.'AhH2233.Heה֚וּאhu'H1931will crushיְשׁוּפְךָ֣ye.shu.fe.KhaH7779your headרֹ֔אשׁRoshH7218,and youוְאַתָּ֖הve.'a.TahH859will strikeתְּשׁוּפֶ֥נּוּte.shu.Fe.nuH7779his heelעָקֵֽב׃ ס'a.KevH6119.”

16Toאֶֽל־'el-H413the womanהָאִשָּׁ֣הha.'i.ShahH802He saidאָמַ֗ר'a.MarH559: “I will sharply increaseH7235your painעִצְּבוֹנֵ֣ךְi.tze.vo.NekhH6093in childbirthוְהֵֽרֹנֵ֔ךְve.he.ro.NekhH2032;in painבְּעֶ֖צֶבbe.'E.tzevH6089you will bring forthתֵּֽלְדִ֣יte.le.DiH3205childrenבָנִ֑יםva.NimH1121.Your desireתְּשׁ֣וּקָתֵ֔ךְte.Shu.ka.TekhH8669will beforוְאֶל־ve.'el-H413your husbandאִישֵׁךְ֙'i.sheKhH376,and heוְה֖וּאve.Hu'H1931will ruleיִמְשָׁל־yim.shol-H4910over you.”

17And to Adamוּלְאָדָ֣םul.'a.DamH121He saidאָמַ֗ר'a.MarH559: “Becauseכִּֽי־ki-H3588you have listenedשָׁמַעְתָּ֮sha.ma'.TaH8085to the voiceלְק֣וֹלle.KolH6963ofמִן־min-H4480your wifeאִשְׁתֶּךָ֒'ish.te.KhaH802and have eatenוַתֹּ֙אכַל֙va.To.khalH398from the treeהָעֵ֔ץha.'EtzH6086of whichאֲשֶׁ֤ר'a.SherH834I commandedצִוִּיתִ֙יךָ֙ לֵאמֹ֔רtzi.vi.Ti.kha le.MorH6680 H559you notלֹ֥אlo'H3808to eatתֹאכַ֖לto.KhalH398מִמֶּ֑נּוּmi.Me.nuH4480,cursedאֲרוּרָ֤ה'a.ru.RahH779isthe groundהָֽאֲדָמָה֙ha.'a.da.MahH127because of youבַּֽעֲבוּרֶ֔ךָba.'a.vu.Re.khaH5668;through toilבְּעִצָּבוֹן֙be.'i.tza.VonH6093you will eat of itתֹּֽאכֲלֶ֔נָּהto.kha.Le.nahH398allכֹּ֖לkolH3605the daysיְמֵ֥יye.MeiH3117of your lifeחַיֶּֽיךָ׃chai.Yei.khaH2416.

18Both thornsוְק֥וֹץve.KotzH6975and thistlesוְדַרְדַּ֖רve.dar.DarH1863it will yieldתַּצְמִ֣יחַֽtatz.Mi.achH6779for you,and you will eatוְאָכַלְתָּ֖ve.'a.khal.TaH398אֶת־'et-H853the plantsעֵ֥שֶׂב'E.sevH6212of the fieldהַשָּׂדֶֽה׃ha.sa.DehH7704.

19By the sweatבְּזֵעַ֤תbe.ze.'AtH2188of your browאַפֶּ֙יךָ֙'a.Pei.khaH639you will eatתֹּ֣אכַלTo.khalH398yourbreadלֶ֔חֶםLe.chemH3899,untilעַ֤ד'adH5704you returnשֽׁוּבְךָ֙shu.ve.KhaH7725toאֶל־'el-H413the groundהָ֣אֲדָמָ֔הha.'a.da.MahH127—becauseכִּ֥יkiH3588out of itמִמֶּ֖נָּהmi.Me.nahH4480were you takenלֻקָּ֑חְתָּlu.Ka.che.taH3947.Forכִּֽי־ki-H3588dustעָפָ֣רa.FarH6083youאַ֔תָּה'A.tahH859are,and toוְאֶל־ve.'el-H413dustעָפָ֖ר'a.FarH6083you shall returnתָּשֽׁוּב׃ta.ShuvH7725.”
