7All this happenedוַיְהִ֗יvay.HiH1961becauseכִּֽי־ki-H3588the peopleבְנֵֽי־ve.nei-H1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵל֙Yis.ra.'ElH3478had sinnedחָטְא֤וּcha.te.'UH2398against the LORDלַיהוָ֣הla.Yah.wehH3068their Godאֱלֹהֵיהֶ֔ם'e.lo.hei.HemH430,who had broughtהַמַּעֲלֶ֤הha.ma.'a.LehH5927themאֹתָם֙'o.TamH853out of the landמֵאֶ֣רֶץme.'E.retzH776of Egyptמִצְרַ֔יִםmitz.Ra.yimH4714from underמִתַּ֕חַתmi.Ta.chatH8478the handיַ֖דyadH3027of Pharaohפַּרְעֹ֣הpar.'OhH6547kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Egyptמִצְרָ֑יִםmitz.Ra.yimH4714.They had worshipedוַיִּֽירְא֖וּvai.yi.re.'UH3372otherאֲחֵרִֽים׃'a.che.RimH312godsאֱלֹהִ֥ים'E.lo.HimH430

8and walkedוַיֵּֽלְכוּ֙vai.ye.le.KhuH1980in the customsבְּחֻקּ֣וֹתbe.chu.KotH2708of the nationsהַגּוֹיִ֔םha.go.YimH1471thatאֲשֶׁר֙'a.SherH834the LORDיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068had driven outהוֹרִ֣ישׁho.RishH3423beforeמִפְּנֵ֖יmi.pe.NeiH6440the Israelitesבְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑לbe.Nei Yis.ra.'ElH1121 H3478,as well as in the practicesאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834introducedעָשֽׂוּ׃'a.SuH6213by the kingsוּמַלְכֵ֥יu.mal.KheiH4428of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478.

10They set upוַיַּצִּ֧בוּvai.ya.Tzi.vuH5324for themselves sacredpillarsמַצֵּב֖וֹתma.tze.VotH4676and Asherah polesוַאֲשֵׁרִ֑יםva.'a.she.RimH842onעַ֚ל'alH5921everyכָּל־kol-H3605highגְבֹהָ֔הge.vo.HahH1364hillגִּבְעָ֣הgiv.'AhH1389and underוְתַ֖חַתve.Ta.chatH8478everyכָּל־kol-H3605greenרַעֲנָֽן׃ra.'a.NanH7488treeעֵ֥ץ'etzH6086.

11They burned incenseוַיְקַטְּרוּ־ שָׁם֙vay.ka.te.ru- shamH6999 H8033on allבְּכָל־be.kholH3605the high placesבָּמ֔וֹתba.MotH1116like the nationsכַּגּוֹיִ֕םka.go.YimH1471thatאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834the LORDיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068had driven outהֶגְלָ֥הheg.LahH1540before themמִפְּנֵיהֶ֑םmi.pe.nei.HemH6440.They didוַֽיַּעֲשׂוּ֙vai.ya.'a.SuH6213wickedרָעִ֔יםra.'ImH7451thingsדְּבָרִ֣יםde.va.RimH1697,provokingלְהַכְעִ֖יסle.hakh.'IsH3707אֶת־'et-H853the LORD to angerיְהוָֽה׃Yah.wehH3068.

12They servedוַיַּֽעַבְד֖וּvai.ya.'av.DuH5647idolsהַגִּלֻּלִ֑יםha.gi.lu.LimH1544אֲשֶׁ֨ר'a.SherH834,although the LORDיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068had toldאָמַ֤ר'a.MarH559them, “You shall notלֹ֥אlo'H3808doתַעֲשׂ֖וּta.'a.SuH6213אֶת־'et-H853thisהַזֶּֽה׃ha.ZehH2088thingהַדָּבָ֥רha.da.VarH1697.”

13Yet throughבְּיַד֩be.YadH3027allכָּל־kol-H3605His prophetsנְבִיאֵ֨יne.vi.'ovH5030andכָל־khol-H3605seersחֹזֶ֜הcho.ZehH2374,the LORDיְהוָ֡הYah.wehH3068warnedוַיָּ֣עַדvai.Ya.'adH5749Israelבְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֣לbe.Yis.ra.'ElH3478and Judahוּבִיהוּדָ֡הu.vi.hu.DahH3063,sayingלֵאמֹ֗רle.MorH559, “Turnשֻׁ֝֠בוּShu.vuH7725from your wickedהָֽרָעִים֙ha.ra.'ImH7451waysמִדַּרְכֵיכֶ֤םmi.dar.khei.KhemH1870and keepוְשִׁמְרוּ֙ve.shim.RuH8104My commandmentsמִצְוֹתַ֣יmitz.vo.TaiH4687and statutesחֻקּוֹתַ֔יchu.ko.TaiH2708,according to the entireכְּכָ֨ל־ke.Khal-H3605Lawהַתּוֹרָ֔הha.to.RahH8451thatאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834I commandedצִוִּ֖יתִיtzi.Vi.tiH6680אֶת־'et-H853your fathersאֲבֹֽתֵיכֶ֑ם'a.vo.tei.KhemH1וַֽאֲשֶׁר֙va.'a.SherH834and deliveredשָׁלַ֣חְתִּיsha.Lach.tiH7971to youאֲלֵיכֶ֔ם'a.lei.KhemH413throughבְּיַ֖דbe.YadH3027My servantsעֲבָדַ֥י'a.va.DaiH5650the prophetsהַנְּבִיאִֽים׃ha.ne.vi.'ImH5030.”

14But they would notוְלֹ֖אve.Lo'H3808listenשָׁמֵ֑עוּsha.Me.'uH8085,and they stiffenedוַיַּקְשׁ֤וּvai.yak.ShuH7185אֶת־'et-H853their necksH6203like their fathersאֲבוֹתָ֔ם'a.vo.TamH1,whoאֲשֶׁר֙'a.SherH834did notלֹ֣אlo'H3808believeהֶאֱמִ֔ינוּhe.'e.Mi.nuH539the LORDבַּֽיהוָ֖הba.Yah.wehH3068their Godאֱלֹהֵיהֶֽם׃'e.lo.hei.HemH430.

15They rejectedוַיִּמְאֲס֣וּvai.yim.'a.SuH3988אֶת־'et-H853His statutesחֻקָּ֗יוchu.KavH2706וְאֶת־ve.'EtH853and the covenantבְּרִיתוֹ֙be.ri.ToH1285אֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834He had madeכָּרַ֣תka.RatH3772withאֶת־'et-H854their fathersאֲבוֹתָ֔ם'a.vo.TamH1וְאֵת֙ve.'EtH853,as well as the decreesעֵֽדְוֹתָ֔יו'e.de.vo.TavH5715אֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834He had givenהֵעִ֖ידhe.'IdH5749them.They pursuedוַיֵּ֨לְכ֜וּ אַחֲרֵ֤יvai.Ye.le.khu 'a.cha.ReiH1980 H310worthless idolsהַהֶ֙בֶל֙ha.He.velH1892and became worthless themselvesוַיֶּהְבָּ֔לוּvai.yeh.Ba.luH1891,going afterוְאַחֲרֵ֤יve.'a.cha.ReiH310the surroundingסְבִֽיבֹתָ֔םse.vi.vo.TamH5439אֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834nationsהַגּוֹיִם֙ha.go.YimH1471thatאֲשֶׁ֨ר'a.SherH834the LORDיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068אֹתָ֔ם'o.TamH853had commanded themצִוָּ֤הtzi.VahH6680notלְבִלְתִּ֖יle.vil.TiH1115to imitateעֲשׂ֥וֹתa.SotH6213.

16They abandonedוַיַּעַזְב֗וּvai.ya.'az.VuH5800אֶת־'et-H853allכָּל־kol-H3605the commandmentsמִצְוֹת֙mitz.VotH4687of the LORDיְהוָ֣הYah.wehH3068their Godאֱלֹהֵיהֶ֔ם'e.lo.hei.HemH430and madeוַיַּעֲשׂ֥וּvai.ya.'a.SuH6213for themselvestwoשְׁנֵ֣יshe.neimH8147cast idolsמַסֵּכָ֖הma.se.KhahH4541of calvesעֲגָלִ֑ים וַיַּעֲשׂ֣וּ'a.ga.Lim vai.ya.'a.SuH5695 H6213and an Asherah poleאֲשֵׁירָ֗ה'a.shei.RahH842.They bowed down toוַיִּֽשְׁתַּחֲווּ֙vai.yish.ta.cha.VuH7812allלְכָל־le.kholH3605the hostצְבָ֣אtze.Va'H6635of heavenהַשָּׁמַ֔יִםha.sha.Ma.yimH8064and servedוַיַּעַבְד֖וּvai.ya.'av.DuH5647אֶת־'et-H853Baalהַבָּֽעַל׃ha.Ba.'alH1168.

17They sacrificedוַֽ֠יַּעֲבִירוּVai.ya.'a.vi.ruH5674their sonsבְּנֵיהֶ֤םbe.nei.HemH1121אֶת־'et-H853and daughtersבְּנֽוֹתֵיהֶם֙be.no.tei.HemH1323וְאֶת־ve.'EtH853in the fireבָּאֵ֔שׁba.'EshH784and practicedוַיִּקְסְמ֥וּvai.yik.se.MuH7080divinationקְסָמִ֖יםke.sa.MimH7081and soothsayingוַיְנַחֵ֑שׁוּvay.na.Che.shuH5172.They devoted themselvesוַיִּֽתְמַכְּר֗וּvai.yit.ma.ke.RuH4376to doingלַעֲשׂ֥וֹתla.'a.SotH6213evilהָרַ֛עha.Ra'H7451in the sightבְּעֵינֵ֥יbe.'ei.NeiH5869of the LORDיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068,provoking Him to angerלְהַכְעִיסֽוֹ׃le.hakh.'i.SoH3707.

18So the LORDיְהוָ֤הYah.wehH3068was veryמְאֹד֙me.'OdH3966angryוַיִּתְאַנַּ֨ףvai.yit.'a.NafH599with Israelבְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לbe.Yis.ra.'ElH3478,and He removed themוַיְסִרֵ֖םvay.si.RemH5493fromמֵעַ֣לme.'AlH5921His presenceפָּנָ֑יו לֹ֣אpa.Nav lo'H6440 H3808.Onlyרַ֛קrakH7535the tribeשֵׁ֥בֶטShe.vetH7626of Judahיְהוּדָ֖ה לְבַדּֽוֹ׃ye.hu.Dah le.va.DoH3063 H905remainedנִשְׁאַ֔רnish.'ArH7604,
