1Now Ahabוּלְאַחְאָ֛בu.le.'ach.'AvH256had seventyשִׁבְעִ֥יםshiv.'ImH7657sonsבָּנִ֖יםba.NimH1121in Samariaבְּשֹׁמְר֑וֹןbe.sho.me.RonH8111.So Jehuיֵה֨וּאye.Hu'H3058wroteוַיִּכְתֹּב֩vai.yikh.ToH3789lettersסְפָרִ֜יםse.fa.RimH5612and sent themוַיִּשְׁלַ֣חvai.yish.LachH7971to Samariaשֹׁמְר֗וֹןsho.me.RonH8111toאֶל־'el-H413the officialsשָׂרֵ֤יsa.ReiH8269of Jezreelיִזְרְעֶאל֙yiz.re.'eLH3157,to the eldersהַזְּקֵנִ֔יםha.ze.ke.NimH2205,and toוְאֶל־ve.'el-H413the guardiansהָאֹמְנִ֥יםha.'o.me.NimH539of the sonsof Ahabאַחְאָ֖ב'ach.'AvH256,sayingלֵאמֹֽר׃le.MorH559:

2“When thisהַזֶּה֙ אֲלֵיכֶ֔םha.Zeh 'a.lei.KhemH2088 H413letterהַסֵּ֤פֶרha.Se.ferH5612arrivesבְּבֹ֨אbe.Vo'H935,sinceוְעַתָּ֗הve.'a.TahH6258your master’sאֲדֹנֵיכֶ֑ם'a.do.nei.KhemH113sonsבְּנֵ֣יbe.NeiH1121are with youוְאִתְּכֶ֖םve.'i.te.KhemH854and you haveוְאִתְּכֶם֙ve.'i.te.KhemH854chariotsהָרֶ֣כֶבha.Re.khevH7393and horsesוְהַסּוּסִ֔יםve.ha.su.SimH5483,a fortifiedמִבְצָ֖רmiv.TzarH4013cityוְעִ֥ירve.'IrH5892and weaponryוְהַנָּֽשֶׁק׃ve.ha.Na.shekH5402,

3selectוּרְאִיתֶ֞םu.re.'i.TemH7200the bestהַטּ֤וֹבha.TovH2896and most worthyוְהַיָּשָׁר֙ve.hai.ya.SharH3477sonמִבְּנֵ֣יmi.be.NeiH1121of your masterאֲדֹנֵיכֶ֔ם'a.do.nei.KhemH113,set himוְשַׂמְתֶּ֖םve.sam.TemH7760onעַל־'al-H5921his father’sאָבִ֑יו'a.VivH1throneכִּסֵּ֣אki.Se'H3678,and fightוְהִֽלָּחֲמ֖וּve.hi.la.cha.MuH3898forעַל־'al-H5921your master’sאֲדֹנֵיכֶֽם׃'a.do.nei.KhemH113houseבֵּ֥יתbeitH1004.”

4But they were terrifiedוַיִּֽרְאוּ֙vai.yir.'UH3372 H3966and reasonedוַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּvai.Yo.me.RuH559, “Ifהִנֵּה֙hi.NehH2009twoשְׁנֵ֣יshe.NeiH8147kingsהַמְּלָכִ֔יםha.me.la.KhimH4428could notלֹ֥אlo'H3808standעָמְד֖וּ'a.me.DuH5975against himלְפָנָ֑יוle.fa.NavH6440,howוְאֵ֖יךְ נַעֲמֹ֥דve.'Eikh na.'a.ModH349 H5975can weאֲנָֽחְנוּ׃'a.Na.che.nuH587?”

5So the palaceהַבַּ֣יִתha.Ba.yitH1004administratorאֲשֶׁר־ עַל־'a.Sher- 'al-H834 H5921,the overseerוַאֲשֶׁ֪ר עַל־va.'a.Sher 'al-H834 H5921of the cityהָעִ֟ירha.'IrH5892,the eldersוְהַזְּקֵנִים֩ve.ha.ze.ke.NimH2205,and the guardiansוְהָאֹמְנִ֨יםve.ha.'o.me.NimH539sentוַיִּשְׁלַ֣חvai.yish.LachH7971a message toאֶל־'el-H413Jehuיֵה֤וּא׀ye.Hu'H3058לֵאמֹר֙le.MorH559: “Weאֲנַ֔חְנוּ'a.Nach.nuH587are your servantsעֲבָדֶ֣יךָ'a.va.Dei.khaH5650,and we will doנַעֲשֶׂ֑הna.'a.SehH6213whateverוְכֹ֛לve.KholH3605אֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834you sayתֹּאמַ֥ר אֵלֵ֖ינוּto.Mar 'e.Lei.nuH559 H413.We will notלֹֽא־lo'-H3808make anyoneאִ֔ישׁ'IshH376kingנַמְלִ֣יךְnam.LikhH4427.Doעֲשֵֽׂה׃'a.SehH6213whatever isgoodהַטּ֥וֹבha.TovH2896in your sightבְּעֵינֶ֖יךָbe.'ei.Nei.khaH5869.”

6Then Jehu wroteוַיִּכְתֹּ֣בvai.yikh.ToH3789themאֲלֵיהֶם֩'a.lei.HemH413a secondשֵׁנִ֜יתshe.NitH8145letterסֵ֨פֶר׀Se.ferH5612and saidלֵאמֹ֗רle.MorH559: “Ifאִם־'im-H518you are on my sideאַתֶּ֜ם'a.TemH859וּלְקֹלִ֣י׀u.le.ko.LiH6963,and if youאַתֶּ֣ם'a.TemH859will obey meשֹׁמְעִ֗יםsho.me.'ImH8085,then bringקְחוּ֙ke.ChuH3947the headsרָאשֵׁי֙ אַנְשֵׁ֣יra.Shei 'an.SheiH7218 H582of your master’sאֲדֹנֵיכֶ֔ם וּבֹ֧אוּ אֵלַ֛י'a.do.nei.Khem u.Vo.'u 'e.LaiH113 H935 H413sonsבְנֵֽי־ve.nei-H1121to meאֶת־'et-H853at Jezreelיִזְרְעֶ֑אלָהyiz.re.'E.lahH3157by this timeכָּעֵ֥תka.'EtH6256tomorrowמָחָ֖רma.CharH4279.”Now the sonsוּבְנֵ֤יu.ve.NeiH1121of the kingהַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ha.Me.lekhH4428,seventyשִׁבְעִ֣יםshiv.'ImH7657in allאִ֔ישׁ אֶת־'Ish 'et-H376 H854,were being brought upמְגַדְּלִ֥יםme.ga.de.LimH1431אוֹתָֽם׃'o.TamH853by the leading menגְּדֹלֵ֥יge.do.LeiH1419of the cityהָעִ֖ירha.'IrH5892.

7Andוַיְהִ֗יvay.HiH1961when the letterהַסֵּ֙פֶר֙ha.Se.ferH5612arrivedכְּבֹ֤א אֲלֵיהֶ֔םke.Vo' 'a.lei.HemH935 H413,they tookוַיִּקְחוּ֙vai.yik.ChuH3947אֶת־'et-H853the sonsבְּנֵ֣יbe.NeiH1121of the kingהַמֶּ֔לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428and slaughteredוַֽיִּשְׁחֲט֖וּvai.yish.cha.TuH7819all seventyשִׁבְעִ֣יםshiv.'ImH7657of themאִ֑ישׁ'IshH376.They putוַיָּשִׂ֤ימוּvai.ya.Si.muH7760אֶת־'et-H853their headsרָֽאשֵׁיהֶם֙ra.shei.HemH7218in basketsבַּדּוּדִ֔יםba.du.DimH1731and sent themוַיִּשְׁלְח֥וּvai.yish.le.ChuH7971to Jehuאֵלָ֖יו'e.LavH413at Jezreelיִזְרְעֶֽאלָה׃yiz.re.'E.lahH3157.

8When the messengerהַמַּלְאָךְ֙ha.mal.'oKhH4397arrivedוַיָּבֹ֤אvai.ya.Vo'H935,he toldוַיַּגֶּד־vai.ya.ged-H5046Jehu, “They have broughtהֵבִ֖יאוּhe.Vi.'uH935the headsרָאשֵׁ֣יra.SheiH7218of the sonsבְנֵֽי־ve.nei-H1121of the kingלֵאמֹ֔ר הַמֶּ֑לֶךְle.Mor ha.Me.lekhH4428 H559.”And Jehu orderedוַיֹּ֗אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Pileשִׂ֣ימוּSi.muH7760themאֹתָ֞ם'o.TamH853in twoשְׁנֵ֧יshe.NeiH8147heapsצִבֻּרִ֛יםtzi.bu.RimH6652at the entranceפֶּ֥תַחPe.tachH6607of the gateהַשַּׁ֖עַרha.Sha.'arH8179untilעַד־'ad-H5704morningהַבֹּֽקֶר׃ha.Bo.kerH1242.”

9וַיְהִ֤יvay.HiH1961The next morningבַבֹּ֙קֶר֙va.Bo.kerH1242, Jehuwent outוַיֵּצֵ֣אvai.ye.Tze'H3318and stoodוַֽיַּעֲמֹ֔דvai.ya.'a.ModH5975beforeאֶל־'el-H413allכָּל־kol-H3605the peopleהָעָ֔םha.'AmH5971and saidוַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙vai.Yo.merH559, “Youאַתֶּ֑ם הִנֵּ֨ה'a.Tem hi.NehH859 H2009are innocentצַדִּקִ֖יםtza.di.KimH6662.It was Iאֲנִ֜י'a.NiH589who conspiredקָשַׁ֤רְתִּיka.Shar.tiH7194againstעַל־'al-H5921my masterאֲדֹנִי֙'a.do.NiH113and killed himוָאֶהְרְגֵ֔הוּva.'eh.re.Ge.huH2026.But whoוּמִ֥יu.MiH4310killedהִכָּ֖הhi.KahH5221אֶת־'et-H853allכָּל־kol-H3605theseאֵֽלֶּה׃'E.lehH428?

10Knowדְּע֣וּde.'UH3045,thenאֵפ֗וֹא'e.Fo'H645,thatכִּי֩kiH3588notלֹ֨אlo'H3808a wordמִדְּבַ֤רmi.de.VarH1697the LORDיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068אֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834has spokenדִּבֶּ֥רdi.BerH1696יְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068againstעַל־'al-H5921the houseבֵּ֣יתbeitH1004of Ahabאַחְאָ֑ב'ach.'AvH256will failיִפֹּ֜ל אַ֔רְצָהyi.Pol 'Ar.tzahH5307 H776,for the LORDוַיהוָ֣הva.Yah.wehH3068has doneעָשָׂ֔ה'a.SahH6213אֵ֚ת'etH853whatאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834He promisedדִּבֶּ֔רdi.BerH1696throughבְּיַ֖דbe.YadH3027His servantעַבְדּ֥וֹav.DoH5650Elijahאֵלִיָּֽהוּ׃'e.li.Ya.huH452.”

11So Jehuיֵה֗וּאye.Hu'H3058אֵ֣ת'etH853killedוַיַּ֣ךְvai.YakhH5221everyoneכָּל־kol-H3605in Jezreelבְּיִזְרְעֶ֔אלbe.yiz.re.'ElH3157who remainedהַנִּשְׁאָרִ֤יםha.nish.'a.RimH7604of the houseלְבֵית־le.veit-H1004of Ahabאַחְאָב֙'ach.'AvH256,as well as allוְכָל־ve.kholH3605his great menגְּדֹלָ֖יוge.do.LavH1419and close friendsוּמְיֻדָּעָ֣יוu.me.yu.da.'AvH3045and priestsוְכֹהֲנָ֑יו עַד־ve.kho.ha.Nav 'ad-H3548 H5704,leavingהִשְׁאִֽיר־hish.'ir-H7604himwithoutבִּלְתִּ֥יbil.TiH1115a singlesurvivorשָׂרִֽיד׃sa.RidH8300.
