2וַיְהִ֞יvay.HiH1961When Jeroboamיָרָבְעָ֣םya.ra.ve.'AmH3379sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Nebatנְבָ֗טne.VatH5028heard about thisכִּשְׁמֹ֣עַ׀kish.Mo.a'H8085,he wasוְהוּא֙ve.Hu'H1931stillעוֹדֶ֣נּוּo.De.nuH5750in Egyptבְמִצְרַ֔יִםve.mitz.Ra.yimH4714whereאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834he had fledבָּרַ֔חba.RachH1272from Kingהַמֶּ֣לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428Solomonשְׁלֹמֹ֑הshe.lo.MohH8010מִפְּנֵ֖יmi.pe.NeiH6440and had beenיָרָבְעָ֖םya.ra.ve.'AmH3379living ever sinceוַיֵּ֥שֶׁבvai.Ye.shevH3427בְּמִצְרָֽיִם׃be.mitz.Ra.yimH4714.

3So they sent forוַֽיִּשְׁלְחוּ֙ וַיִּקְרְאוּ־vai.yish.le.Chu vai.yik.re.'u-H7971 H7121Jeroboam,andיָרָבְעָ֖םya.ra.ve.'AmH3379heand the wholeוְכָל־ve.kholH3605assemblyקְהַ֣לke.HalH6951of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לYis.ra.'ElH3478cameוַיָּבֹ֥אvai.ya.vo.'u'H935toאֶל־'el-H413Rehoboamרְחַבְעָ֖םre.chav.'AmH7346and saidוַֽיְדַבְּר֔וּ לֵאמֹֽר׃vay.da.be.Ru le.MorH1696 H559,

5Rehoboam answeredוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559אֲלֵיהֶ֗ם'a.lei.HemH413, “Go awayלְכ֥וּle.KhuH1980forעֹ֛ד'odH5750threeשְׁלֹשָׁ֥הshe.lo.ShahH7969daysיָמִ֖יםya.MimH3117and then returnוְשׁ֣וּבוּve.Shu.vuH7725to meאֵלָ֑י'e.LaiH413.”So the peopleהָעָֽם׃ha.'AmH5971departedוַיֵּלְכ֖וּvai.ye.le.KhuH1980.

8But Rehoboam rejectedוַֽיַּעֲזֹ֛בvai.ya.'a.ZoH5800אֶת־'et-H853the adviceעֲצַ֥ת'a.TzatH6098of the eldersהַזְּקֵנִ֖יםha.ze.ke.NimH2205אֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834;instead, he consultedאֶת־'et-H3289 H854the young menהַיְלָדִים֙hay.la.DimH3206whoאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834had grown upגָּדְל֣וּga.de.LuH1431with himאִתּ֔וֹ'i.ToH854אֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834and servedהָעֹמְדִ֖יםha.'o.me.DimH5975himלְפָנָֽיו׃le.fa.NavH6440.

11Whereasוְעַתָּ֗הve.'a.TahH6258my fatherאָבִי֙'a.ViH1burdenedהֶעְמִ֤יסhe'.MisH6006you with a heavyכָּבֵ֔דka.VedH3515yokeעֹ֣ל'olH5923,Iוַאֲנִ֖יva.'a.NiH589will addעֲלֵיכֶם֙ אוֹסִ֣יף'a.lei.Khem 'o.SifH3254 H5921toעַֽל־'al-H5921your yokeעֻלְּכֶ֑ם'u.le.KhemH5923.Whereas my fatherאָבִ֗י'a.ViH1scourgedיִסַּ֤רyi.SarH3256youאֶתְכֶם֙'et.KhemH853with whipsבַּשּׁוֹטִ֔יםba.sho.TimH7752,Iוַאֲנִ֕יva.'a.NiH589will scourgeאֲיַסֵּ֥ר'a.ya.SerH3256youאֶתְכֶ֖ם'et.KhemH853with scorpionsבָּעַקְרַבִּֽים׃ba.'ak.ra.BimH6137.’”

12After threeהַשְּׁלִישִׁ֑יha.she.li.ShiH7992daysבַּיּ֣וֹםbai.YomH3117,Jeroboamיָרָבְעָ֧םya.ra.ve.'AmH3379and allוְכָל־ve.kholH3605the peopleהָעָ֛םha.'AmH5971returnedוַיָּב֨וֹאvai.ya.vov'H935toאֶל־'el-H413Rehoboamרְחַבְעָ֖םre.chav.'AmH7346,sinceכַּאֲשֶׁ֨רka.'a.SherH834the kingהַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ לֵאמֹ֔רha.Me.lekh le.MorH4428 H559had saidדִּבֶּ֤רdi.BerH1696, “Come backשׁ֥וּבוּShu.vuH7725to meאֵלַ֖י'e.LaiH413on the thirdהַשְּׁלִישִֽׁי׃ha.she.li.ShiH7992dayבַּיּ֥וֹםbai.YomH3117.”

Shemaiah’s Prophecy

Jeroboam’s Idolatry
