1 Kings 8:22-53

22And SolomonH8010 stoodH5975 before the altarH4196 of Jehovah in the presenceH6440 of all the assemblyH6951 of IsraelH3478, and spreadH6566 forth his handsH3709 toward heavenH8064; 23and he saidH559, O Jehovah, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, there is no GodH430 like thee, in heavenH8064 above, or on earthH776 beneath; who keepest covenantH1285 and lovingkindness with thy servantsH5650, that walkH1980 before thee with all their heartH3820; 24who hast keptH8104 with thy servantH5650 DavidH1732 my fatherH1 that which thou didst promise him: yea, thou spakest with thy mouthH6310, and hast fulfilled it with thy handH3027, as it is this dayH3117. 25NowH6258 thereforeH6258, O Jehovah, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, keepH8104 with thy servantH5650 DavidH1732 my fatherH1 that which thou hast promised him, sayingH559, There shall not fail thee a manH376 in my sight to sitH3427 on the throneH3678 of IsraelH3478, if onlyH7535 thy children takeH8104 heedH8104 to their wayH1870, to walkH1980 before me as thou hast walkedH1980 before me. 26NowH6258 thereforeH6258, O GodH430 of IsraelH3478, let thy wordH1697, I pray thee, be verified, which thou spakest unto thy servantH5650 DavidH1732 my fatherH1.

27But will GodH430 in very deed dwellH3427 on the earthH776? behold, heavenH8064 and the heavenH8064 of heavensH8064 cannot containH3557 thee; how much less this houseH1004 that I have builded! 28Yet have thou respect unto the prayerH8605 of thy servantH5650, and to his supplicationH8467, O Jehovah my GodH430, to hearken unto the cryH7440 and to the prayerH8605 which thy servantH5650 prayeth before thee this dayH3117; 29that thine eyesH5869 may beH1961 openH6605 toward this houseH1004 nightH3915 and dayH3117, even toward the placeH4725 whereof thou hast saidH559, My nameH8034 shall beH1961 there; to hearken unto the prayerH8605 which thy servantH5650 shall prayH6419 toward this placeH4725. 30And hearken thou to the supplicationH8467 of thy servantH5650, and of thy peopleH5971 IsraelH3478, whenH834 they shall prayH6419 toward this placeH4725: yea, hearH8085 thou in heavenH8064 thy dwelling-place; and whenH834 thou hearest, forgiveH5545.

31If a manH376 sinH2398 against his neighborH7453, and an oathH423 be laid upon him to cause him to swear, and he comeH935 and swear before thine altarH4196 in this houseH1004; 32then hearH8085 thou in heavenH8064, and do, and judgeH8199 thy servantsH5650, condemningH7561 the wickedH7563, to bring his wayH1870 upon his own headH7218, and justifyingH6663 the righteousH6662, to giveH5414 him according to his righteousnessH6666.

33WhenH834 thy peopleH5971 IsraelH3478 are smitten down before the enemyH341, because they have sinnedH2398 against thee; if they turnH7725 again to thee, and confessH3034 thy nameH8034, and prayH6419 and make supplication unto thee in this houseH1004: 34then hearH8085 thou in heavenH8064, and forgiveH5545 the sinH2403 of thy peopleH5971 IsraelH3478, and bringH7725 them again unto the landH127 which thou gavest unto their fathersH1.

35When heavenH8064 is shutH6113 up, and there is no rainH4306, because they have sinnedH2398 against thee; if they prayH6419 toward this placeH4725, and confessH3034 thy nameH8034, and turnH7725 from their sinH2398, when thou dost afflictH6031 them: 36then hearH8085 thou in heavenH8064, and forgiveH5545 the sinH2403 of thy servantsH5650, and of thy peopleH5971 IsraelH3478, when thou teachest them the goodH2896 wayH1870 wherein they should walk; and send rainH4306 upon thy landH776, which thou hast givenH5414 to thy peopleH5971 for an inheritanceH5159.

37If there beH1961 in the landH776 famineH7458, if there beH1961 pestilenceH1698, if there beH1961 blasting or mildewH3420, locustH697 or caterpillar; if their enemyH341 besiege them in the landH776 of their cities; whatsoever plagueH1698, whatsoever sicknessH4245 there beH1961; 38what prayerH8605 and supplicationH8467 soever beH1961 madeH3045 by any manH376, or by all thy peopleH5971 IsraelH3478, who shall knowH3045 every manH376 the plagueH5061 of his own heartH3824, and spreadH6566 forth his handsH3709 toward this houseH1004: 39then hearH8085 thou in heavenH8064 thy dwelling-place, and forgiveH5545, and do, and render unto every manH376 according to all his waysH1870, whose heartH3824 thou knowest; (for thou, even thou onlyH905, knowest the heartsH3824 of all the children of menH376;) 40that they may fearH3372 thee all the daysH3117 that they live in the landH127 which thou gavest unto our fathersH1.

41Moreover concerningH413 the foreignerH5237, that is not of thy peopleH5971 IsraelH3478, whenH834 he shall comeH935 out of a farH7350 country for thy name’sH8034 sakeH4616 42(for they shall hearH8085 of thy greatH1419 nameH8034, and of thy mightyH2389 handH3027, and of thine outstretchedH5186 armH2220); when he shall comeH935 and prayH6419 toward this houseH1004; 43hearH8085 thou in heavenH8064 thy dwelling-place, and do according to all that the foreignerH5237 calleth to thee for; that all the peoplesH5971 of the earthH776 may knowH3045 thy nameH8034, to fearH3372 thee, as doth thy peopleH5971 IsraelH3478, and that they may knowH3045 that this houseH1004 which I have builtH1129 is calledH7121 by thy nameH8034.

44If thy peopleH5971 goH3318 out to battleH4421 against their enemyH341, by whatsoever wayH1870 thou shalt sendH7971 them, and they prayH6419 unto Jehovah toward the cityH5892 which thou hast chosenH977, and toward the houseH1004 which I have builtH1129 for thy nameH8034; 45then hearH8085 thou in heavenH8064 their prayerH8605 and their supplicationH8467, and maintain their cause.

46If they sinH2398 against thee (for there is no manH120 that sinneth not), and thou be angryH599 with them, and deliver them to the enemyH341, so that they carry them away captiveH7617 unto the landH776 of the enemyH341, farH7350 off or near; 47yet if they shall bethink themselves in the landH776 whither they are carried captiveH7617, and turnH7725 again, and make supplication unto thee in the landH776 of them that carried them captiveH7617, sayingH559, We have sinnedH2398, and have done perversely, we have dealt wickedlyH7561; 48if they returnH7725 unto thee with all their heartH3824 and with all their soulH5315 in the landH776 of their enemiesH341, who carried them captiveH7617, and prayH6419 unto thee toward their landH776, which thou gavest unto their fathersH1, the cityH5892 which thou hast chosenH977, and the houseH1004 which I have builtH1129 for thy nameH8034: 49then hearH8085 thou their prayerH8605 and their supplicationH8467 in heavenH8064 thy dwelling-place, and maintain their cause; 50and forgiveH5545 thy peopleH5971 who have sinnedH2398 against thee, and all their transgressionsH6588 wherein they have transgressedH6586 against thee; and giveH5414 them compassionH7355 before those who carried them captiveH7617, that they may have compassionH7355 on them 51(for they are thy peopleH5971, and thine inheritanceH5159, which thou broughtest forthH3318 out of EgyptH4714, from the midstH8432 of the furnaceH3564 of ironH1270); 52that thine eyesH5869 may beH1961 openH6605 unto the supplicationH8467 of thy servantH5650, and unto the supplicationH8467 of thy peopleH5971 IsraelH3478, to hearken unto them whensoever they cry unto thee. 53For thou didst separateH914 them from among all the peoplesH5971 of the earthH776, to be thine inheritanceH5159, as thou spakest by MosesH4872 thy servantH5650, when thou broughtest our fathersH1 out of EgyptH4714, O LordH136 Jehovah.
