Genesis 20
Revised Version 1895
1And AbrahamH85 journeyedH5265 from thence toward the landH776 of the SouthH5045, and dweltH3427 betweenH996 KadeshH6946 and ShurH7793; and he sojourned in GerarH1642. 2And AbrahamH85 saidH559 of SarahH8283 his wifeH802, SheH1931 is my sisterH269: and AbimelechH40 kingH4428 of GerarH1642 sentH7971, and tookH3947 SarahH8283. 3But GodH430 cameH935 to AbimelechH40 in a dreamH2472 of the nightH3915, and saidH559 to him, BeholdH2009, thou art but a deadH4191 manH1167, becauseH5921 of the womanH802 whichH834 thou hast takenH3947; for sheH1931 is a man’sH802 wifeH802. 4NowH1571 AbimelechH40 had notH3808 comeH7126 nearH7126 herH413: and he saidH559, LordH136, wilt thou slayH2026 evenH1571 a righteousH6662 nationH1471? 5SaidH559 he notH3808 himselfH1931 unto meH3808, SheH1931 is my sisterH269? and sheH1931, evenH1571 sheH1931 herselfH1931 saidH559, He is my brotherH251: in the integrityH8537 of my heartH3824 and the innocency of my handsH3709 have I doneH6213 this. 6And GodH430 saidH559 unto him in the dreamH2472, YeaH3588, I knowH3045 that in the integrityH8537 of thy heartH3824 thou hast doneH6213 this, and I also withheldH2820 thee from sinningH2398 againstH5921 meH413: therefore suffered I thee notH3808 to touchH5060 herH413. 7NowH6258 therefore restoreH7725 the man’sH376 wifeH802; for he is a prophetH5030, and he shall prayH6419 for thee, and thou shalt liveH2421: and ifH518 thou restoreH7725 herH3605 notH369, knowH3045 thou that thou shalt surelyH3588 dieH4191, thou, and allH3605 that are thine. 8And AbimelechH40 roseH7925 earlyH7925 in the morningH1242, and calledH7121 allH3605 his servantsH5650, and toldH1696 allH3605 theseH428 things in their earsH241: and the menH376 were sore afraidH3372. 9Then AbimelechH40 calledH7121 AbrahamH85, and saidH559 unto him, WhatH4100 hast thou doneH6213 unto usH5921? and whereinH834 have I sinnedH2398 againstH5921 thee, that thou hast broughtH935 on meH5921 and on my kingdomH4467 a greatH1419 sinH2398? thou hast doneH6213 deedsH4639 unto meH5921 that ought notH3808 to be doneH6213. 10And AbimelechH40 saidH559 unto AbrahamH85, WhatH4100 sawest thou, that thou hast doneH6213 this thingH1697? 11And AbrahamH85 saidH559, BecauseH3588 I thoughtH559, SurelyH3588 the fearH3374 of GodH430 is notH369 in this placeH4725; and they will slayH2026 meH5921 for my wife’sH802 sakeH5921. 12And moreoverH1571 sheH1931 is indeedH1571 my sisterH269, the daughterH1323 of my fatherH1, but notH3808 the daughterH1323 of my motherH517; and sheH1931 becameH1961 my wifeH802: 13and it cameH935 to passH935, when GodH430 causedH1961 meH413 to wanderH8582 from my father’sH1 houseH1004, that I saidH559 unto herH3605, This is thy kindnessH2617 whichH834 thou shalt shew unto meH413; at everyH3605 placeH4725 whither weH834 shall comeH935, sayH559 of meH413, He is my brotherH251. 14And AbimelechH40 tookH3947 sheepH6629 and oxenH1241, and menservants and womenservants, and gaveH5414 them unto AbrahamH85, and restoredH7725 him SarahH8283 his wifeH802. 15And AbimelechH40 saidH559, BeholdH2009, my landH776 is beforeH6440 thee: dwellH3427 whereH2009 it pleaseth thee. 16And unto SarahH8283 he saidH559, BeholdH2009, I have givenH5414 thy brotherH251 a thousandH505 pieces of silverH3701: beholdH2009, it is for thee a coveringH3682 of the eyesH5869 to allH3605 that are with thee; and in respect of allH3605 thou art righted. 17And AbrahamH85 prayedH6419 unto GodH430: and GodH430 healedH7495 AbimelechH40, and his wifeH802, and his maidservants; and they bare childrenH3205. 18For the LORDH3068 had fastH6113 closedH6113 upH5921 allH3605 the wombsH7358 of the houseH1004 of AbimelechH40, becauseH3588 of SarahH8283 Abraham’sH85 wifeH802.
