1 Kings 11:13-36
13YetH7534 1I will not tearH7167 awayH7167 allH3605 the kingdomH4467, but 2I will giveH5414 oneH259 tribeH7626 to your sonH1121 for the sakeH4616 of My servantH5650 DavidH1732, and 3for the sakeH4616 of JerusalemH3389, whichH834 I have chosenH977.”
14Then the LordH3068 raisedH6965 upH6965 an adversaryH7854 against SolomonH8010, HadadH1908 the EdomiteH130; he was of the 4royalH4428 lineH2233 in EdomH112. 15For it cameH1961 aboutH1961, 5when DavidH1732 was in EdomH112 and JoabH3097 the commanderH8269 of the armyH6635 had goneH5927 upH5927 to buryH6912 those killedH2491 in battle, and had 6struckH5221 andH5221 killedH5221 everyH3605 maleH2145 in EdomH112 16(for JoabH3097 and allH3605 IsraelH3478 stayedH3427 thereH8033 for sixH8337 monthsH2320, untilH5704 he had eliminatedH3772 everyH3605 maleH2145 in EdomH112), 17that HadadH1908 fledH1272 7to EgyptH4714, he and certainH376 EdomitesH130 of his father’sH1 servantsH5650 with him, while HadadH1908 was a youngH6996 boyH5288. 18They setH6965 outH6965 from MidianH4080 and cameH935 to 8ParanH6290; and they tookH3947 menH376 with them from ParanH6290 and cameH935 to EgyptH4714, to PharaohH6547 kingH4428 of EgyptH4714, who gaveH5414 him a houseH1004 and assignedH559 him foodH3899 and gaveH5414 him landH776. 19Now HadadH1908 foundH4672 greatH3966 favorH2580 in the sightH5869 of PharaohH6547, so that he gaveH5414 him in marriageH802 the sisterH269 of his own wifeH802, the sisterH269 of TahpenesH8472 the queenH1377. 20And the sisterH269 of TahpenesH8472 gaveH3205 birthH3205 to his sonH1121 GenubathH1592, whom TahpenesH8472 weanedH1580 in Pharaoh’sH6547 houseH1004; and GenubathH1592 was in Pharaoh’sH6547 houseH1004 amongH8432 the sonsH1121 of PharaohH6547. 21But 9when HadadH1908 heardH8085 in EgyptH4714 that DavidH1732 10layH7901 downH7901 with his fathersH1 and that JoabH3097 the commanderH8269 of the armyH6635 was deadH4191, HadadH1908 saidH559 to PharaohH6547, “LetH7971 me goH7971, so that I may goH1980 to my own countryH776.” 22However, PharaohH6547 saidH559 to him, “But whatH4100 have you lackedH2638 with me that you are hereH2009, requestingH1245 to goH1980 to your own countryH776?” And he answeredH559, “NothingH3808; neverthelessH3588 you mustH7971 letH7971 me goH7971.”
2311GodH430 also raisedH6965 upH6965 another adversaryH7854 against him, RezonH7331 the sonH1121 of EliadaH450, whoH834 had fledH1272 from his masterH113 12HadadezerH1909, kingH4428 of ZobahH6678. 24And he gatheredH6908 menH376 to himself and becameH1961 leaderH8269 of a maraudingH1416 bandH1416, 13after DavidH1732 killedH2026 those of Zobah; and they wentH1980 to DamascusH1834 and stayedH3427 14there, and reignedH4427 in DamascusH1834. 25So he was an adversaryH7854 to IsraelH3478 allH3605 the daysH3117 of SolomonH8010, along with the harmH7463 that HadadH1908 inflicted; and he feltH6973 disgustH6973 for IsraelH3478 and reignedH4427 overH5921 AramH758.
26Then 15JeroboamH3379 the sonH1121 of NebatH5028, an EphraimiteH673 of ZeredahH6868, Solomon’sH8010 servantH5650, whose mother’sH517 nameH8034 was ZeruahH6871, a widowH490, 16also 17rebelledH7311H3027 against the kingH4428. 27Now thisH2088 was the reasonH1697 whyH834 he 18rebelledH7311H3027 against the kingH4428: 19SolomonH8010 builtH1129 the 20MilloH4407, and closedH5462 upH5462 the breachH6556 of the cityH5892 of his fatherH1 DavidH1732. 28Now the manH376 JeroboamH3379 was a valiantH2428 warriorH1368, and when 21SolomonH8010 sawH7200 that the youngH5288 manH5288 was 22industriousH4399H6213, he appointedH6485 him over allH3605 the 23forcedH5447 laborH5447 of the houseH1004 of JosephH3130. 29And it cameH1961 aboutH1961 at that timeH6256, when JeroboamH3379 wentH3318 outH3318 of JerusalemH3389, that 24the prophetH5030 AhijahH281 the ShiloniteH7888 foundH4672 him on the roadH1870. Now 25Ahijah had clothedH3680 himself with a newH2319 cloakH8008; and bothH8147 of them were aloneH905 in the fieldH7704. 30Then 26AhijahH281 tookH8610 holdH8610 of the newH2319 cloakH8008 whichH834 was on him and toreH7167 it into twelveH8147H6240 piecesH7168. 31And he saidH559 to JeroboamH3379, “TakeH3947 for yourself tenH6235 piecesH7168; for thisH3541 isH3541 whatH3541 the LordH3068, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478 saysH559: ‘BeholdH2009, 27I am going to tearH7167 the kingdomH4467 awayH7167 from the handH3027 of SolomonH8010 and giveH5414 you tenH6235 tribesH7626 32(28but he shall haveH1961 oneH259 tribeH7626, for the sakeH4616 of My servantH5650 DavidH1732 and for the sakeH4616 of JerusalemH3389, 29the cityH5892 whichH834 I have chosenH977 from allH3605 the tribesH7626 of IsraelH3478), 33becauseH3282H834 they have abandonedH5800 Me, and 30have worshipedH2331 AshtorethH6252 the goddessH430 of the SidoniansH6722, 31ChemoshH3645 the godH430 of MoabH4124, and MilcomH4445 the godH430 of the sonsH1121 of AmmonH5983; and they have not walkedH1980 in My waysH1870, doingH6213 whatH3477 isH3477 rightH3477 in My sightH5869 and keeping My statutesH2708 and My ordinancesH4941, as his fatherH1 DavidH1732 did. 34Nevertheless I will not takeH3947 the wholeH3605 kingdomH4467 out of his handH3027, but I will makeH7896 him rulerH5387 allH3605 the daysH3117 of his lifeH2425, for the sakeH4616 of My servantH5650 DavidH1732 whomH834 I choseH977, whoH834 keptH8104 My commandmentsH4687 and My statutesH2708; 35but 32I will takeH3947 the kingdomH4410 from his son’sH1121 handH3027 and giveH5414 it to you; that is, tenH6235 tribesH7626. 36But 33to his sonH1121 I will giveH5414 oneH259 tribeH7626, 34soH4616 thatH4616 My servantH5650 DavidH1732 may alwaysH3605H3117 haveH1961 a lampH5215 beforeH6440 Me in JerusalemH3389, 35the cityH5892 whereH834H8033 I have chosenH977 for Myself to putH7760 My nameH8034.
