Context of Song of Songs 4:8
6Until the cool of the day When the shadows flee, I will go my way to the mountain of myrrh And to the hill of frankincense. 7“You are altogether beautiful, my darling, And there is no blemish on you. Come with me from Lebanon, my bride, You shall come with me from Lebanon. You shall come down from the summit of Amana, From the summit of Senir and Hermon, From the dens of lions, From the mountains of leopards. 9You have enchanted my heart, my sister, my bride; You have enchanted my heart with a single glance of your eyes, With a single strand of your necklace. 10How beautiful is your love, my sister, my bride! How much sweeter is your love than wine, And the fragrance of your oils Than that of all kinds of balsam oils!

Commentaries on Song of Songs 4:8
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 8My spouse - The כלה callah which we translate spouse, seems to have a peculiar meaning. Mr. Harmer thinks the Jewish princess is intended by it; and this seems to receive confirmation from the bridegroom calling her sister, Song of Solomon 4:9, that is, one of the same stock and country; and thus different from the Egyptian bride. Mr. Harmer's opinion is very probable, that Two Queens are mentioned in this song: one Pharaoh's daughter, the other a Jewess…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 8-15Verses 8-15 Observe the gracious call Christ gives to the church. It is, 1. A precept; so this is Christ's call to his church to come off from the world. These hills seem pleasant, but there are in them lions' dens; they are mountains of the leopards. 2. As a promise; many shall be brought as members of the church, from every point. The church shall be delivered from her persecutors in due time, though now she dwells among lions, Ps. 57:4. Christ's heart…Read the comment
