38When Elishaוֶאֱלִישָׁ֞עve.'e.li.Sha'H477returnedשָׁ֤בshavH7725toGilgalהַגִּלְגָּ֙לָה֙ha.gil.Ga.lahH1537, there wasa famineוְהָרָעָ֣בve.ha.ra.'AvH7458in the landבָּאָ֔רֶץba.'A.retzH776. Asthe sonsוּבְנֵי֙u.ve.NeiH1121of the prophetsהַנְּבִיאִ֔יםha.ne.vi.'ImH5030were sittingיֹשְׁבִ֖יםyo.she.VimH3427in frontלְפָנָ֑יוle.fa.NavH6440of him, he saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to his servantלְנַעֲר֗וֹle.na.'a.RoH5288, “Putשְׁפֹת֙she.FotH8239on the largeהַגְּדוֹלָ֔הha.ge.do.LahH1419potהַסִּ֣ירha.SirH5518and boilוּבַשֵּׁ֥לu.va.ShelH1310stewנָזִ֖ידna.ZidH5138for the sonsלִבְנֵ֥יliv.NeiH1121of the prophetsהַנְּבִיאִֽים׃ha.ne.vi.'ImH5030.”

39Then oneאֶחָ֣ד'e.ChadH259wentH3318outH3318into the fieldהַשָּׂדֶה֮ha.sa.DehH7704to gatherלְלַקֵּ֣טle.la.KetH3950mallowאֹרֹת֒'o.RotH219,and foundוַיִּמְצָא֙vai.yim.Tza'H4672a wildשָׂדֶ֔הsa.DehH7704vineגֶּ֣פֶןGe.fenH1612and gatheredוַיְלַקֵּ֥טvay.la.KetH3950from it his lapבִגְד֑וֹvig.DoH899fullמְלֹ֣אme.Lo'H4393of wildשָׂדֶ֖הsa.DehH7704gourdsפַּקֻּעֹ֥תpa.ku.'OtH6498;and he cameוַיָּבֹ֗אvai.ya.Vo'H935and slicedוַיְפַלַּ֛חvay.fa.LachH6398them into the potסִ֥ירsirH5518of stewהַנָּזִ֖ידha.na.ZidH5138,becauseכִּֽי־ki-H3588they did not knowיָדָֽעוּ׃ya.Da.'uH3045what they were.

40So they pouredוַיִּֽצְק֥וּvai.yitz.KuH3332itoutH3332for the menאִ֣ישׁ'ishH376to eatלֶאֱכ֑וֹלle.'e.KholH398.But as they were eatingכְּאָכְלָ֨םke.'a.khe.LamH398the stewמֵהַנָּזִ֜ידme.ha.na.ZidH5138,they criedH6817outH6817and saidוַיֹּֽאמְרוּ֙vai.yo.me.RuH559, “You manH376of Godהָאֱלֹהִ֔יםha.'E.lo.HimH430, there isdeathמָ֤וֶתMa.vetH4194in the potבַּסִּיר֙ba.SirH5518!”And they wereH3201unableוְלֹ֥אve.Lo'H3808 H3201to eatלֶאֱכֹֽל׃le.'e.KholH398.
