14Then the Lordיְהוָ֤הYah.wehH3068raisedH6965upH6965an adversaryשָׂטָן֙sa.TanH7854against Solomonלִשְׁלֹמֹ֔הlish.lo.MohH8010,Hadadהֲדַ֣דha.DadH1908the Edomiteהָאֲדֹמִ֑יha.'a.do.MiH130; he was of theroyalהַמֶּ֛לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428lineמִזֶּ֧רַעmi.Ze.ra'H2233in EdomH112.

15For it cameוַיְהִ֗יvay.HiH1961aboutבִּֽהְי֤וֹתbih.YotH1961,when Davidדָּוִד֙da.VidH1732was in EdomH112and Joabיוֹאָב֙yo.'AvH3097the commanderשַׂ֣רsarH8269of the armyהַצָּבָ֔אha.tza.Va'H6635had goneH5927upH5927to buryלְקַבֵּ֖רle.ka.BerH6912those killedהַחֲלָלִ֑יםha.cha.la.LimH2491in battle, and hadstruckH5221andH5221killedH5221everyכָּל־kol-H3605maleזָכָ֖רza.KharH2145in EdomH112

16(for Joabיוֹאָ֖בyo.'AvH3097and allוְכָל־ve.kholH3605Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לYis.ra.'ElH3478stayedיָֽשַׁב־ya.shav-H3427thereשָׁ֥םshamH8033for sixשֵׁ֧שֶׁתShe.shetH8337monthsחֳדָשִׁ֛יםcho.da.ShimH2320,untilעַד־'ad-H5704he had eliminatedהִכְרִ֥יתhikh.RitH3772everyכָּל־kol-H3605maleזָכָ֖רza.KharH2145in EdomH112),

17that Hadadוַהֲדַ֖דva.ha.DadH1908fledוַיִּבְרַ֣חvai.yiv.RachH1272to Egyptמִצְרָ֑יִםmitz.Ra.yimH4714,he and certainH376Edomitesאֲדֹמִיִּ֜ים'a.do.mi.YimH130of his father’sאָבִ֛יו'a.VivH1servantsמֵעַבְדֵ֥יme.'av.DeiH5650with him, while HadadH1908wasa youngקָטָֽן׃ka.TanH6996boyנַ֥עַרNa.'arH5288.

18They setH6965outH6965from Midianמִמִּדְיָ֔ןmi.mid.YanH4080and cameוַיָּבֹ֖אוּvai.ya.Vo.'uH935toParanפָּארָ֑ןpa.RanH6290;and they tookוַיִּקְחוּ֩vai.yik.ChuH3947menH376with them from Paranמִפָּארָ֗ןmi.pa.RanH6290and cameוַיָּבֹ֤אוּvai.ya.Vo.'uH935to Egyptמִצְרַ֙יִם֙mitz.Ra.yimH4714,to Pharaohפַּרְעֹ֣הpar.'OhH6547kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Egyptמִצְרַ֔יִםmitz.Ra.yimH4714,who gaveוַיִּתֶּן־vai.yi.ten-H5414him a houseבַ֗יִתVa.yitH1004and assignedאָ֣מַר'A.marH559him foodוְלֶ֙חֶם֙ve.Le.chemH3899and gaveנָ֥תַןNa.tanH5414him landוְאֶ֖רֶץve.'E.retzH776.

19Now Hadadהֲדַ֥דha.DadH1908foundוַיִּמְצָא֙vai.yim.Tza'H4672greatמְאֹ֑דme.'OdH3966favorחֵ֛ןchenH2580in the sightבְּעֵינֵ֥יbe.'ei.NeiH5869of Pharaohפַרְעֹ֖הfar.'OhH6547,so that he gaveוַיִּתֶּן־vai.yi.ten-H5414him in marriageאִשָּׁה֙'i.ShahH802the sisterאֲח֣וֹת'a.ChotH269of his own wifeאִשְׁתּ֔וֹ'ish.ToH802,the sisterאֲח֖וֹת'a.ChotH269of Tahpenesתַּחְפְּנֵ֥יסtach.pe.NeisH8472the queenהַגְּבִירָֽה׃ha.ge.vi.RahH1377.

20And the sisterאֲח֣וֹת'a.ChotH269of Tahpenesתַּחְפְּנֵ֗יסtach.pe.NeisH8472gaveH3205birthH3205to his sonבְּנ֔וֹbe.NoH1121Genubathגְּנֻבַ֣תge.nu.VatH1592,whom Tahpenesתַחְפְּנֵ֔סtach.pe.NesH8472weanedוַתִּגְמְלֵ֣הוּva.tig.me.Le.huH1580in Pharaoh’sפַּרְעֹ֑הpar.'OhH6547houseבֵּ֣יתbeitH1004;and Genubathגְנֻבַת֙ge.nu.VatH1592was in Pharaoh’sפַּרְעֹ֔הpar.'OhH6547houseבֵּ֣יתbeitH1004amongH8432the sonsבְּנֵ֥יbe.NeiH1121of Pharaohפַרְעֹֽה׃far.'OhH6547.

21Butwhen Hadadוַהֲדַ֞דva.ha.DadH1908heardשָׁמַ֣עsha.Ma'H8085in Egyptבְּמִצְרַ֗יִםbe.mitz.Ra.yimH4714that Davidדָּוִד֙da.VidH1732layH7901downשָׁכַ֤בsha.KhavH7901with his fathersאֲבֹתָ֔יו'a.vo.TavH1and that Joabיוֹאָ֣בyo.'AvH3097the commanderשַֽׂר־sar-H8269of the armyהַצָּבָ֑אha.tza.Va'H6635was deadמֵ֖תmetH4191,Hadadהֲדַד֙ha.DadH1908saidוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Pharaohפַּרְעֹ֔הpar.'OhH6547, “LetH7971me goשַׁלְּחֵ֖נִיsha.le.Che.niH7971,so that I may goוְאֵלֵ֥ךְve.'e.LekhH1980to my own countryאַרְצִֽי׃'ar.TziH776.”

22However, Pharaohפַרְעֹ֗הfar.'OhH6547saidוַיֹּ֧אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to him, “But whatמָה־mah-H4100have you lackedחָסֵר֙cha.SerH2638with me that you are hereH2009,requestingמְבַקֵּ֖שׁme.va.KeshH1245to goלָלֶ֣כֶתla.Le.khetH1980to your own countryאַרְצֶ֑ךָ'ar.Tze.khaH776?”And he answeredוַיֹּ֣אמֶר׀vai.Yo.merH559, “Nothingלֹ֔אLo'H3808;neverthelessH3588you mustH7971letH7971me goH7971.”

23Godאֱלֹהִ֥ים'E.lo.HimH430also raisedH6965upH6965anotheradversaryשָׂטָ֔ןsa.TanH7854against him, Rezonרְז֖וֹןre.ZonH7331the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Eliadaאֶלְיָדָ֑ע'el.ya.Da'H450,whoאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834had fledבָּרַ֗חba.RachH1272from his masterאֲדֹנָֽיו׃'a.do.NavH113Hadadezerהֲדַדְעֶ֥זֶרha.dad.'E.zerH1909,kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Zobahצוֹבָ֖הtzo.VahH6678.

24And he gatheredוַיִּקְבֹּ֤ץvai.yik.BotzH6908menH376to himself and becameוַיְהִ֣יvay.HiH1961leaderשַׂר־sar-H8269of a maraudingגְּד֔וּדge.DudH1416bandH1416,after Davidדָּוִ֖דda.VidH1732killedבַּהֲרֹ֥גba.ha.RogH2026those of Zobah;and they wentוַיֵּלְכ֤וּvai.ye.le.KhuH1980to Damascusדַמֶּ֙שֶׂק֙da.Me.sekH1834and stayedוַיֵּ֣שְׁבוּvai.Ye.she.vuH3427there, and reignedוַֽיִּמְלְכ֖וּvai.yim.le.KhuH4427in Damascusבְּדַמָּֽשֶׂק׃be.da.Ma.sekH1834.

25So he was an adversaryשָׂטָ֤ןsa.TanH7854to Israelלְיִשְׂרָאֵל֙le.Yis.ra.'ElH3478allכָּל־kol-H3605the daysיְמֵ֣יye.MeiH3117of Solomonשְׁלֹמֹ֔הshe.lo.MohH8010,along with the harmH7463that Hadadהֲדָ֑דha.DadH1908inflicted;and he feltH6973disgustH6973for Israelבְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לbe.Yis.ra.'ElH3478and reignedוַיִּמְלֹ֖ךְvai.yim.LokhH4427overעַל־'al-H5921Aramאֲרָֽם׃ פ'a.RamH758.

26ThenJeroboamוְיָרָבְעָם֩ve.ya.ra.ve.'AmH3379the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Nebatנְבָ֨טne.VatH5028,an Ephraimiteאֶפְרָתִ֜י'ef.ra.TiH673of Zeredahהַצְּרֵדָ֗הha.tze.re.DahH6868,Solomon’sלִשְׁלֹמֹ֑הlish.lo.MohH8010servantעֶ֖בֶד'E.vedH5650,whose mother’sאִמּוֹ֙'i.MoH517nameוְשֵׁ֤םve.ShemH8034was Zeruahצְרוּעָה֙tze.ru.'AhH6871,a widowאַלְמָנָ֔ה'al.ma.NahH490, alsorebelledוַיָּ֥רֶם יָ֖דvai.Ya.rem yadH7311 H3027against the kingבַּמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ba.Me.lekhH4428.

28Now the manוְהָאִ֥ישׁve.ha.'IshH376Jeroboamיָרָבְעָ֖םya.ra.ve.'AmH3379was a valiantחָ֑יִלCha.yilH2428warriorגִּבּ֣וֹרgi.BorH1368, and whenSolomonשְׁלֹמֹ֜הshe.lo.MohH8010sawוַיַּ֨רְאvai.Yar'H7200that the youngהַנַּ֗עַרha.Na.'arH5288manH5288wasindustriousעֹשֵׂ֤ה מְלָאכָה֙'o.Seh me.la.KhahH4399 H6213,he appointedוַיַּפְקֵ֣דvai.yaf.KedH6485him over allלְכָל־le.kholH3605theforcedH5447laborH5447of the houseבֵּ֥יתbeitH1004of Josephיוֹסֵֽף׃ סyo.SefH3130.
