Context of Isaiah 50:9

7For the Lord God helps Me, Therefore, I am not disgraced; Therefore, I have made My face like flint, And I know that I will not be ashamed. 8He who vindicates Me is near; Who will contend with Me? Let us stand up to each other. Who has a case against Me? Let him approach Me. Behold, the Lord God helps Me; Who is he who condemns Me? Behold, they will all wear out like a garment; A moth will eat them. 10Who is among you who fears the Lord, Who obeys the voice of His servant, Who walks in darkness and has no light? Let him trust in the name of the Lord and rely on his God. 11Behold, all you who kindle a fire, Who encircle yourselves with flaming arrows, Walk in the light of your fire And among the flaming arrows you have set ablaze. This you will have from My hand: You will lie down in torment.

• Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 9The Lord God will help me - (See Isaiah 50:7). In the Hebrew this is, The Lord Jehovah,‘ as it is in Isaiah 50:7 also, and these are among the places where our translators have improperly rendered the word יהוה yehovâh (Jehovah) by the word God.‘ Who is he that shall condemn me? - If Yahweh is my advocate and friend, my cause must be right. Similar language is used by the apostle Paul: If God be for us, who can be against us?‘ Romans 8:31; and in Psalm…Read the comment
• Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 4-9Verses 4-9 As Jesus was God and man in one person, we find him sometimes speaking, or spoken of, as the Lord God; at other times, as man and the servant of Jehovah. He was to declare the truths which comfort the broken, contrite heart, those weary of sin, harassed with afflictions. And as the Holy Spirit was upon him, that he might speak as never man spake; so the same Divine influence daily wakened him to pray, to preach the gospel, and to receive and…Read the comment
• Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 9Who is there to condemn Me?: This question expects the answer, “No one!” The servant is confident that no one can prove him guilty. This statement points forward to the New Testament teaching about justification (God declaring a person to be right with him). Paul speaks about this in Romans 8:31–35).Read the comment
