Isaiah 34

God’s Wrath against Nations

1Come near, 1you nations, to hear; and listen, you peoples! 2Let the earth and 3all it contains hear, and the world and all that springs from it.2For the Lord’s 4anger is against all the nations, And His wrath against all their armies. He has 56utterly destroyed them, He has turned them over to 7slaughter.3So their slain will be 8thrown out, And their corpses 9will give off their 10stench, And the mountains will 11be drenched with their 12blood.4And 13all the heavenly 14lights will 15wear away, And the 16sky will be rolled up like a scroll; All its 17lights will also wither away As a leaf withers from the vine, Or as one withers from the fig tree.5For 18My sword has drunk its fill in heaven; Behold it shall descend for judgment upon 19Edom, And upon the people whom I have 20designated for destruction.6The sword of the Lord is filled with blood, It drips with fat, with the blood of lambs and goats, With the fat of the kidneys of rams. For the Lord has a sacrifice in 21Bozrah, And a great slaughter in the land of 22Edom.723Wild oxen will also 24fall with them And 25young bulls with strong ones; So their land will be 26soaked with blood, And their dust 27become greasy with fat.8For the Lord has a day of 28vengeance, A year of retribution for the 29cause of Zion.930Its streams will be turned into pitch, And its loose earth into 31brimstone, And its land will become burning pitch.10It will 32not be extinguished night or day; Its 33smoke will go up forever. From 34generation to generation it will be desolate; 35None will pass through it forever and ever.11But 3637pelican and hedgehog will possess it, And 38owl and raven will dwell in it; And He will stretch over it the 39line of 40desolation And the 41plumb line of emptiness.12Its nobles--there is 42no one there Whom they may proclaim king-- And all its officials will be 43nothing.13Thorns will come up in its 44fortified towers, Weeds and thistles in its fortified cities; It will also be a haunt of 45jackals And a habitat of ostriches.14The desert 46creatures will meet with the 47wolves, The 4849goat also will cry to its kind. Yes, the 50night-bird will settle there And will find herself a resting place.15The tree snake will make its nest and lay eggs there, And it will hatch and gather them under its 51protection. Yes, 52the 53hawks will be gathered there, Every one with its kind.

16Seek from the 54book of the Lord, and read: Not one of these will be missing; None will lack its mate. For 5556His mouth has commanded, And His Spirit has gathered them.17He has cast the 57lot for them, And His hand has divided it to them by the 58measuring line. They shall possess it forever; From 59generation to generation they will dwell in it.
