2 Samuel 13:20-38

20Then AbsalomH53 her brotherH251 saidH559 to her, “Has AmnonH550 your brotherH251 beenH1961 with you? But nowH6258 keepH2790 silentH2790, my sisterH269, he is your brotherH251; do not takeH7896 thisH2088 matterH1697 to heartH3820.” So TamarH8559 remainedH3427 and was desolateH8074 in her brotherH251 Absalom’sH53 houseH1004. 21Now when KingH4428 DavidH1732 heardH8085 of allH3605 theseH428 mattersH1697, he was veryH3966 angryH2734. 22But AbsalomH53 did not speakH1696 to AmnonH550 1eitherH5704 goodH2896 orH5704 badH7451; for 2AbsalomH53 hatedH8130 AmnonH550 becauseH5921H1697H834 he had violatedH6031 his sisterH269 TamarH8559.

23Now it cameH1961 about after two fullH3117 yearsH8141 that AbsalomH53 3hadH1961 sheepshearersH1494 in Baal-hazorH1178, whichH834 is nearH5973 EphraimH669, and AbsalomH53 invitedH7121 allH3605 the king’sH4428 sonsH1121. 24AbsalomH53 cameH935 to the kingH4428 and saidH559, “BeholdH2009 nowH4994, your servantH5650 has sheepshearersH1494; pleaseH4994 let the kingH4428 and his servantsH5650 goH1980 with your servantH5650.” 25But the kingH4428 saidH559 to AbsalomH53, “NoH408, my sonH1121, we should not allH3605 goH1980, for we will be burdensomeH3513 to you.” Although he 4urgedH6555 him, he wouldH14 not goH1980, but blessedH1288 him. 26Then 5AbsalomH53 saidH559, “If not, pleaseH4994 let my brotherH251 AmnonH550 goH1980 with us.” And the kingH4428 saidH559 to him, “WhyH4100 should he goH1980 with you?” 27But when AbsalomH53 6urgedH6555 him, he letH7971 AmnonH550 and allH3605 the king’sH4428 sonsH1121 goH7971 with him.

28AbsalomH53 commandedH6680 his servantsH5288, sayingH559, “SeeH7200 nowH4994, 7when Amnon’sH550 heartH3820 is merryH2895 with wineH3196, and when I sayH559 to you, ‘StrikeH5221 AmnonH550,’ then putH4191 him to deathH4191. Do not fearH3372; have not I myselfH595 commandedH6680 you? Be courageousH2388 and be 8valiantH1121H2428.” 29The servantsH5288 of AbsalomH53 didH6213 to AmnonH550 justH3512 as AbsalomH53 had commandedH6680. Then allH3605 the king’sH4428 sonsH1121 aroseH6965 and eachH376 mountedH7392 9his muleH6505 and fledH5127.

30Now it was while they were on the wayH1870 that the reportH8052 cameH935 to DavidH1732, sayingH559, “AbsalomH53 has struckH5221 downH5221 allH3605 the king’sH4428 sonsH1121, and not oneH259 of them is leftH3498.” 31Then the kingH4428 aroseH6965, 10toreH7167 his clothesH899 and 11layH7901 on the groundH776; and allH3605 his servantsH5650 were standingH5324 by with clothesH899 tornH7167. 3212JonadabH3082, the sonH1121 of ShimeahH8093, David’sH1732 brotherH251, 13respondedH6030H559, “Do not let my lordH113 14supposeH559 they have putH4191 to deathH4191 allH3605 the youngH5288 menH5288, the king’sH4428 sonsH1121, for AmnonH550 aloneH905 is deadH4191; becauseH3588 by the 15intentH6310 of AbsalomH53 this has beenH1961 determinedH7760 sinceH4480 the dayH3117 that he violatedH6031 his sisterH269 TamarH8559. 33NowH6258 therefore, do not let my lordH113 the kingH4428 16takeH7760 the reportH1697 to 17heartH3820, namelyH559, ‘allH3605 the king’sH4428 sonsH1121 are deadH4191,’ for onlyH905 AmnonH550 is deadH4191.”

34Now 18AbsalomH53 had fledH1272. And 19the youngH5288 manH5288 who was the watchmanH6822 raisedH5375 his eyesH5869 and lookedH7200, and beholdH2009, manyH7227 peopleH5971 were comingH1980 from the roadH1870 behindH310 him by the sideH6654 of the mountainH2022. 35JonadabH3082 saidH559 to the kingH4428, “BeholdH2009, the king’sH4428 sonsH1121 have comeH935; according to your servant’sH5650 wordH1697, soH3651 it happenedH1961.” 36As soon as he had finishedH3615 speakingH1696, beholdH2009, the king’sH4428 sonsH1121 cameH935 and liftedH5375 their voicesH6963 and weptH1058; and alsoH1571 the kingH4428 and allH3605 his servantsH5650 weptH1058 20veryH3966 bitterlyH1419H1065.

37Now 21AbsalomH53 fledH1272 and wentH1980 to 22TalmaiH8526 the sonH1121 of AmmihudH5989, the kingH4428 of 23GeshurH1650. And David mournedH56 for his sonH1121 everyH3605 dayH3117. 3824So AbsalomH53 had fledH1272 and goneH1980 to GeshurH1650, and was thereH8033 threeH7969 yearsH8141.
