2 Samuel 13:20-38

20Then AbsalomH53 her brotherH251 saidH559 to her, “Has AmnonH550 your brotherH251 beenH1961 with you? But nowH6258 keepH2790 silentH2790, my sisterH269, he is your brotherH251; do not takeH7896 thisH2088 matterH1697 to heartH3820.” So TamarH8559 remainedH3427 and wasH8074 isolatedH8074 in her brotherH251 Absalom’sH53 houseH1004. 21Now when KingH4428 DavidH1732 heardH8085 about allH3605 theseH428 mattersH1697, he becameH2734 veryH3966 angryH2734. 22But AbsalomH53 did not speakH1696 with AmnonH550 1eitherH5704 goodH2896 orH4480 badH7451; for 2AbsalomH53 hatedH8130 AmnonH550 becauseH5921H1697H834 he had violatedH6031 his sisterH269 TamarH8559.

23Now it cameH1961 aboutH1961 after two fullH3117 yearsH8141 that AbsalomH53 3hadH1961 sheepshearersH1494 in Baal-hazorH1178, whichH834 is nearH5973 EphraimH669, and AbsalomH53 invitedH7121 allH3605 the king’sH4428 sonsH1121 to celebrate. 24And AbsalomH53 cameH935 to the kingH4428 and saidH559, “BeholdH2009 nowH4994, your servantH5650 has sheepshearersH1494; may the kingH4428 and his servantsH5650 pleaseH4994 goH1980 with your servantH5650.” 25But the kingH4428 saidH559 to AbsalomH53, “NoH408, my sonH1121, we should not allH3605 goH1980, so that we will not beH3513 aH3513 burdenH3513 to you.” Though he urgedH6555 him, he wouldH14 not goH1980; but he blessedH1288 him. 26Then 4AbsalomH53 saidH559, “If not, pleaseH4994 have my brotherH251 AmnonH550 goH1980 with us.” But the kingH4428 saidH559 to him, “WhyH4100 should he goH1980 with you?” 27Nevertheless AbsalomH53 urgedH6555 him, so he letH7971 AmnonH550 and allH3605 the king’sH4428 sonsH1121 goH7971 with him.

28Then AbsalomH53 commandedH6680 his servantsH5288, sayingH559, “SeeH7200 nowH4994, 5when Amnon’sH550 heartH3820 is cheerfulH2895 with wineH3196, and I sayH559 to you, ‘StrikeH5221 AmnonH550,’ then putH4191 him toH4191 deathH4191. Do not fearH3372; have I not commandedH6680 you myselfH595? BeH2388 courageousH2388 and be 6valiantH1121H2428.” 29And the servantsH5288 of AbsalomH53 didH6213 to AmnonH550 justH3512 asH3512 AbsalomH53 had commandedH6680. Then allH3605 the king’sH4428 sonsH1121 gotH6965 upH6965 and eachH376 mountedH7392 7his muleH6505 and fledH5127.

30Now it was while they were on the wayH1870 that the reportH8052 cameH935 to DavidH1732, sayingH559, “AbsalomH53 has struckH5221 andH5221 killedH5221 allH3605 the king’sH4428 sonsH1121, and not oneH259 of them is leftH3498.” 31Then the kingH4428 stoodH6965 upH6965, 8toreH7167 his clothesH899, and 9layH7901 on the groundH776; and allH3605 his servantsH5650 were standingH5324 by with clothesH899 tornH7167. 3210And JonadabH3082, the sonH1121 of ShimeahH8093, David’sH1732 brotherH251, 11respondedH6030H559, “Let my lordH113 not 12assumeH559 that they have putH4191 toH4191 deathH4191 allH3605 the youngH5288 menH5288, the king’sH4428 sonsH1121, for onlyH905 AmnonH550 is deadH4191; becauseH3588 this has beenH1961 setH7760 upH7760 by the 13intentH6310 of AbsalomH53 sinceH4480 the dayH3117 that he violatedH6031 his sisterH269 TamarH8559. 33So nowH6258, may my lordH113 the kingH4428 not 14takeH7760 the reportH1697 to 15heartH3820, 16claimingH559, ‘allH3605 the king’sH4428 sonsH1121 are deadH4191’; but onlyH905 AmnonH550 is deadH4191.”

34Now 17AbsalomH53 had fledH1272. And 18the youngH5288 manH5288 who was the watchmanH6822 raisedH5375 his eyesH5869 and lookedH7200, and beholdH2009, manyH7227 peopleH5971 were comingH1980 from the roadH1870 behindH310 him by the sideH6654 of the mountainH2022. 35And JonadabH3082 saidH559 to the kingH4428, “BeholdH2009, the king’sH4428 sonsH1121 have comeH935; soH3651 it has happenedH1961 according to your servant’sH5650 wordH1697.” 36As soon as he had finishedH3615 speakingH1696, beholdH2009, the king’sH4428 sonsH1121 cameH935 and raisedH5375 their voicesH6963 and weptH1058; and the kingH4428 and allH3605 his servantsH5650 alsoH1571 weptH1058 19veryH3966 profuselyH1419H1065.

37Now 20AbsalomH53 had fledH1272 and goneH1980 to 21TalmaiH8526 the sonH1121 of AmmihudH5989, the kingH4428 of 22GeshurH1650. And David mournedH56 for his sonH1121 everyH3605 dayH3117. 3823So AbsalomH53 had fledH1272 and goneH1980 to GeshurH1650, and was thereH8033 for threeH7969 yearsH8141.
