1 Samuel 27:2-12

2So DavidH1732 aroseH6965 and crossedH5674 overH5674, he and 1the sixH8337 hundredH3967 menH376 whoH834 were with him, to 2AchishH397 the sonH1121 of MaochH4582, kingH4428 of GathH1661. 3And DavidH1732 livedH3427 with AchishH397 at GathH1661, he and his menH376, 3eachH376 with his householdH1004, even DavidH1732 with 4his twoH8147 wivesH802, AhinoamH293 the JezreelitessH3159, and AbigailH26 the CarmelitessH3761, Nabal’sH5037 5widowH802. 4Now it was toldH5046 SaulH7586 that DavidH1732 had fledH1272 to GathH1661, so he noH3808 longerH3254H5750 searchedH1245 for him.

5Then DavidH1732 saidH559 to AchishH397, “IfH518 nowH4994 I have foundH4672 favorH2580 in your sightH5869, let them giveH5414 me a placeH4725 in oneH259 of the citiesH5892 in the countryH7704, that I may liveH3427 thereH8033; for whyH4100 should your servantH5650 liveH3427 in the royalH4467 cityH5892 with you?” 6So AchishH397 gaveH5414 him ZiklagH6860 that dayH3117; thereforeH3651 6ZiklagH6860 hasH1961 belonged to the kingsH4428 of JudahH3063 to thisH2088 dayH3117. 7The numberH4557 of daysH3117 that DavidH1732 livedH3427 in the countryH7704 of the PhilistinesH6430 was 7a yearH3117 and fourH702 monthsH2320.

8Now DavidH1732 and his menH376 wentH5927 up and raidedH6584 8the GeshuritesH1651 and the GirzitesH1629 and 9the AmalekitesH6003; for they were the inhabitantsH3427 of the landH776 from ancientH5769 timesH5769, as you comeH935 to 10ShurH7793 even as farH5704 as the landH776 of EgyptH4714. 9DavidH1732 11attackedH5221 the landH776 and did not leaveH2421 a manH376 or a womanH802 aliveH2421, and he 12tookH3947 away the sheepH6629, the cattleH1241, the donkeysH2543, the camelsH1581, and the clothingH899. Then he returnedH7725 and cameH935 to AchishH397. 10Now AchishH397 saidH559, “WhereH575 have you 13madeH6584 a raidH6584 todayH3117?” And DavidH1732 saidH559, “AgainstH5921 the 14NegevH5045 of JudahH3063 and againstH5921 the 15NegevH5045 of 16the JerahmeelitesH3397 and againstH413 the 17NegevH5045 of 18the KenitesH7017.” 11DavidH1732 did not leaveH2421 a manH376 or a womanH802 aliveH2421 to bringH935 to GathH1661, sayingH559, “OtherwiseH6435 they will tellH5046 aboutH5921 us, sayingH559, ‘SoH3541 has DavidH1732 doneH6213 and soH3541 has been his practiceH4941 allH3605 the timeH3117 he has livedH3427 in the countryH7704 of the PhilistinesH6430.’” 12So AchishH397 believedH539 DavidH1732, sayingH559, “He has surelyH887 madeH887 himself odiousH887 among his peopleH5971 IsraelH3478; therefore he will becomeH1961 my servantH5650 foreverH5769.”
