2Elijahאֵלִיָּ֨הוּ'e.li.Ya.huH452saidוַיֹּאמֶר֩vai.yo.MerH559to Elishaאֱלִישָׁ֜ע'e.li.Sha'H477, “Stayשֵֽׁב־shev-H3427hereפֹ֗הFohH6311pleaseנָ֣אna'H4994,for the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068has sentשְׁלָחַ֣נִיshe.la.Cha.niH7971me as farעַד־'ad-H5704asBethelH1008.”But Elishaאֱלִישָׁ֔ע'e.li.Sha'H477saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “As the Lordיְהוָ֥הYah.wehH3068livesחַי־chai-H2416and as you yourselfנַפְשְׁךָ֖naf.she.KhaH5315liveוְחֵֽי־ve.chei-H2416,I will not leaveאֶעֶזְבֶ֑ךָּ'e.'ez.Ve.kaH5800you.” So they wentH3381downוַיֵּרְד֖וּvai.ye.re.DuH3381to BethelH1008.
3Thenthe sonsבְנֵֽי־ve.nei-H1121of the prophetsהַנְּבִיאִ֥יםha.ne.vi.'ImH5030whoאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834were atBethelH1008cameוַיֵּצְא֨וּvai.ye.tze.'UH3318out to Elishaאֱלִישָׁע֒'e.li.Sha'H477and saidוַיֹּאמְר֣וּvai.yo.me.RuH559to him, “Do you knowהֲיָדַ֕עְתָּha.ya.Da'.taH3045that the Lordיְהוָ֛הYah.wehH3068will takeלֹקֵ֥חַlo.Ke.achH3947away your masterאֲדֹנֶ֖יךָ'a.do.Nei.khaH113from overמֵעַ֣לme.'AlH5921you todayהַיּ֗וֹםhai.YomH3117?”And he saidוַיֹּ֛אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Yesגַּם־gam-H1571,I knowיָדַ֖עְתִּיya.Da'.tiH3045;be stillהֶחֱשֽׁוּ׃he.che.ShuH2814.”
4Elijahאֵלִיָּ֜הוּ'e.li.Ya.huH452saidוַיֹּאמֶר֩vai.yo.MerH559to him, “Elishaאֱלִישָׁ֣ע׀'e.li.Sha'H477,pleaseנָ֣אna'H4994stayשֵֽׁב־shev-H3427hereפֹ֗הFohH6311,for the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068has sentשְׁלָחַ֣נִיshe.la.Cha.niH7971me toJerichoיְרִיח֔וֹye.ri.ChoH3405.”But he saidוַיֹּ֕אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “As the Lordיְהוָ֥הYah.wehH3068livesחַי־chai-H2416,and as you yourselfנַפְשְׁךָ֖naf.she.KhaH5315liveוְחֵֽי־ve.chei-H2416,I will not leaveאֶעֶזְבֶ֑ךָּ'e.'ez.Ve.kaH5800you.” So they cameוַיָּבֹ֖אוּvai.ya.Vo.'uH935to Jerichoיְרִיחֽוֹ׃ye.ri.ChoH3405.
5The sonsבְנֵֽי־ve.nei-H1121of the prophetsהַנְּבִיאִ֥יםha.ne.vi.'ImH5030whoאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834wereat Jerichoבִּֽירִיחוֹ֮bi.ri.ChoH3405approachedוַיִּגְּשׁ֨וּvai.yi.ge.ShuH5066Elishaאֱלִישָׁע֒'e.li.Sha'H477and saidוַיֹּאמְר֣וּvai.yo.me.RuH559to him, “Do you knowהֲיָדַ֕עְתָּha.ya.Da'.taH3045that the Lordיְהוָ֛הYah.wehH3068will takeלֹקֵ֥חַlo.Ke.achH3947away your masterאֲדֹנֶ֖יךָ'a.do.Nei.khaH113from overמֵעַ֣לme.'AlH5921you todayהַיּ֗וֹםhai.YomH3117?” And heansweredוַיֹּ֛אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Yesגַּם־gam-H1571,I knowיָדַ֖עְתִּיya.Da'.tiH3045;be stillהֶחֱשֽׁוּ׃he.che.ShuH2814.”
6Then Elijahאֵלִיָּ֜הוּ'e.li.Ya.huH452saidוַיֹּאמֶר֩vai.yo.MerH559to him, “Pleaseנָ֣אna'H4994stayשֵֽׁב־shev-H3427hereפֹ֗הFohH6311,for the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068has sentשְׁלָחַ֣נִיshe.la.Cha.niH7971me tothe Jordanהַיַּרְדֵּ֔נָהhai.yar.De.nahH3383.”And he saidוַיֹּ֕אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “As the Lordיְהוָ֥הYah.wehH3068livesחַי־chai-H2416,and as you yourselfנַפְשְׁךָ֖naf.she.KhaH5315liveוְחֵֽי־ve.chei-H2416,I will not leaveאֶעֶזְבֶ֑ךָּ'e.'ez.Ve.kaH5800you.” So the twoשְׁנֵיהֶֽם׃she.nei.HemH8147of them wentוַיֵּלְכ֖וּvai.ye.le.KhuH1980on.
7Nowfiftyוַחֲמִשִּׁ֨יםva.cha.mi.ShimH2572menאִ֜ישׁ'ishH376of the sonsמִבְּנֵ֤יmi.be.NeiH1121of the prophetsהַנְּבִיאִים֙ha.ne.vi.'ImH5030wentהָֽלְכ֔וּha.le.KhuH1980and stoodוַיַּעַמְד֥וּvai.ya.'am.DuH5975oppositeמִנֶּ֖גֶדmi.Ne.gedH4480H5048themat a distanceמֵרָח֑וֹקme.ra.ChokH7350,while the twoוּשְׁנֵיהֶ֖םu.she.nei.HemH8147of them stoodעָמְד֥וּ'a.me.DuH5975by the Jordanהַיַּרְדֵּֽן׃hai.yar.DenH3383.
8Elijahאֵלִיָּ֨הוּ'e.li.Ya.huH452tookוַיִּקַּח֩vai.yi.KachH3947his mantleאַדַּרְתּ֤וֹ'a.dar.ToH155and foldedH1563it togetherH1563andstruckוַיַּכֶּ֣הvai.ya.KehH5221the watersהַמַּ֔יִםha.Ma.yimH4325,and they were dividedוַיֵּחָצ֖וּvai.ye.cha.TzuH2673hereהֵ֣נָּהHe.nahH2008and thereוָהֵ֑נָּהva.He.nahH2008,so that the twoשְׁנֵיהֶ֖םshe.nei.HemH8147of them crossedH5674overH5674on dryבֶּחָרָבָֽה׃be.cha.ra.VahH2724groundH2724.
9When they had crossedH5674overH5674,Elijahוְאֵ֨לִיָּ֜הוּve.'E.li.Ya.huH452saidאָמַ֤ר'a.MarH559to Elishaאֱלִישָׁע֙'e.li.Sha'H477, “Askשְׁאַל֙she.'AlH7592whatמָ֣הmahH4100I shall doאֶֽעֱשֶׂה־'e.'e.seh-H6213for you beforeבְּטֶ֖רֶםbe.Te.remH2962I am takenאֶלָּקַ֣ח'e.la.KachH3947from you.” And Elishaאֱלִישָׁ֔ע'e.li.Sha'H477saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Pleaseנָ֛אna'H4994, let adoubleשְׁנַ֥יִםshe.Na.yimH8147portionפִּֽי־pi-H6310of your spiritבְּרוּחֲךָ֖be.ru.cha.KhaH7307be upon me.”
10He saidוַיֹּ֖אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “You have askedלִשְׁא֑וֹלlish.'olH7592a hardH7185thingH7185. Nevertheless,ifאִם־'im-H518youseeתִּרְאֶ֨הtir.'EhH7200me when I am takenלֻקָּ֤חlu.KachH3947from you, it shall be soכֵ֔ןKhenH3651for you; but ifוְאִם־ve.'im-H518not, it shall not be so.”
11As they were goingH1980along and talkingוְדַבֵּ֔רve.da.BerH1696,beholdוְהִנֵּ֤הve.hi.NehH2009, there appeareda chariotרֶֽכֶב־re.khev-H7393of fireאֵשׁ֙'eshH784and horsesוְס֣וּסֵיve.Su.seiH5483of fireאֵ֔שׁ'EshH784which separatedוַיַּפְרִ֖דוּvai.yaf.Ri.duH6504the twoשְׁנֵיהֶ֑םshe.nei.HemH8147of them. And Elijahאֵ֣לִיָּ֔הוּ'e.li.Ya.huH452wentוַיַּ֙עַל֙vai.Ya.'alH5927up by awhirlwindבַּֽסְעָרָ֖הba.se.'a.RahH5591to heavenהַשָּׁמָֽיִם׃ha.sha.Ma.yimH8064.
12Elishaוֶאֱלִישָׁ֣עve.'e.li.Sha'H477sawרֹאֶ֗הro.'EhH7200itand criedמְצַעֵק֙me.tza.'EkH6817out, “My fatherאָבִ֣י׀'a.ViH1,my fatherאָבִ֗י'a.ViH1, thechariotsרֶ֤כֶבRe.khevH7393of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵל֙Yis.ra.'ElH3478and its horsemenוּפָ֣רָשָׁ֔יוu.Fa.ra.ShavH6571!”And he sawרָאָ֖הוּra.'A.huH7200Elijah noוְלֹ֥אve.Lo'H3808moreע֑וֹדodH5750. Thenhe tookH2388holdוַֽיַּחֲזֵק֙vai.ya.cha.ZekH2388of his own clothesבִּבְגָדָ֔יוbiv.ga.DavH899and toreוַיִּקְרָעֵ֖םvai.yik.ra.'EmH7167them in twoלִשְׁנַ֥יִםlish.Na.yimH8147piecesקְרָעִֽים׃ke.ra.'ImH7168.
13He also tookוַיָּ֙רֶם֙vai.Ya.remH7311up the mantleאַדֶּ֣רֶת'a.De.retH155of Elijahאֵלִיָּ֔הוּ'e.li.Ya.huH452that fellנָפְלָ֖הna.fe.LahH5307from him and returnedוַיָּ֥שָׁבvai.Ya.shovH7725and stoodוַֽיַּעֲמֹ֖דvai.ya.'a.ModH5975by the bankשְׂפַ֥תse.FatH8193of the Jordanהַיַּרְדֵּֽן׃hai.yar.DenH3383.
14He tookוַיִּקַּח֩vai.yi.KachH3947the mantleאַדֶּ֨רֶת'a.De.retH155of Elijahאֵלִיָּ֜הוּ'e.li.Ya.huH452that fellנָפְלָ֤הna.fe.LahH5307from him and struckוַיַּכֶּ֣הvai.ya.KehH5221the watersהַמַּ֔יִםha.Ma.yimH4325and saidוַיֹּאמַ֕רvai.yo.MarH559, “Whereאַיֵּ֕ה'ai.YehH346is the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068,the Godאֱלֹהֵ֣י'e.lo.HeiH430of Elijahאֵלִיָּ֑הוּ'e.li.Ya.huH452?”And when he alsoאַף־'af-H637hadstruckוַיַּכֶּ֣הvai.ya.KehH5221the watersהַמַּ֗יִםha.Ma.yimH4325,they were dividedוַיֵּֽחָצוּ֙vai.ye.cha.TzuH2673hereהֵ֣נָּהHe.nahH2008and thereוָהֵ֔נָּהva.He.nahH2008;and Elishaאֱלִישָֽׁע׃'e.li.Sha'H477crossedH5674overH5674.

Elisha Succeeds Elijah

15Now whenthe sonsבְנֵֽי־ve.nei-H1121of the prophetsהַנְּבִיאִ֤יםha.ne.vi.'ImH5030whoאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834wereat Jerichoבִּֽירִיחוֹ֙bi.ri.ChoH3405oppositeמִנֶּ֔גֶדmi.Ne.gedH4480H5048himsawוַיִּרְאֻ֨הוּvai.yir.'U.huH7200him, they saidוַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּvai.Yo.me.RuH559, “The spiritר֥וּחַRu.achH7307of Elijahאֵלִיָּ֖הוּ'e.li.Ya.huH452restsנָ֛חָהNa.chahH5117on Elishaאֱלִישָׁ֑ע'e.li.Sha'H477.”And they cameוַיָּבֹ֙אוּ֙vai.ya.Vo.'uH935to meetלִקְרָאת֔וֹlik.ra.ToH7122him and bowedוַיִּשְׁתַּחֲווּ־vai.yish.ta.cha.vu-H7812themselves to the groundאָֽרְצָה׃'A.re.tzahH776before him.
16They saidוַיֹּאמְר֣וּvai.yo.me.RuH559to him, “Beholdהִנֵּה־hi.neh-H2009nowנָ֣אna'H4994,thereיֵֽשׁ־yesh-H3426are with your servantsעֲבָדֶיךָ֩'a.va.dei.KhaH5650fiftyחֲמִשִּׁ֨יםcha.mi.ShimH2572strongחַ֗יִלCha.yilH2428menH376,pleaseנָא֮na'H4994let them goיֵ֣לְכוּYe.le.khuH1980and searchוִיבַקְשׁ֣וּvi.vak.ShuH1245for your masterאֲדֹנֶיךָ֒'a.do.nei.KhaH113;perhapsפֶּן־pen-H6435the Spiritר֣וּחַRu.achH7307of the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068has takenנְשָׂאוֹ֙ne.sa.'OH5375him up and castוַיַּשְׁלִכֵ֙הוּ֙vai.yash.li.Khe.huH7993him on someבְּאַחַ֣דbe.'a.ChadH259mountainהֶהָרִ֔יםhe.ha.RimH2022orא֖וֹ'oH176into someבְּאַחַ֣תbe.'a.ChatH259valleyהַגֵּאָי֑וֹתha.ge.ya.'otH1516.”And he saidוַיֹּ֖אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “You shall not sendתִשְׁלָֽחוּ׃tish.La.chuH7971.”
17But whenthey urgedוַיִּפְצְרוּ־vai.yif.tze.ru-H6484him untilעַד־'ad-H5704he was ashamedבֹּ֖שׁboshH954,he saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Sendשְׁלָ֑חוּshe.La.chuH7971.”They sentוַֽיִּשְׁלְחוּ֙vai.yish.le.ChuH7971therefore fiftyחֲמִשִּׁ֣יםcha.mi.ShimH2572menאִ֔ישׁ'IshH376;and they searchedוַיְבַקְשׁ֥וּvay.vak.ShuH1245threeשְׁלֹשָֽׁה־she.lo.shah-H7969daysיָמִ֖יםya.MimH3117but did not findמְצָאֻֽהוּ׃me.tza.'U.huH4672him.
18They returnedוַיָּשֻׁ֣בוּvai.ya.Shu.vuH7725to him while he was stayingיֹשֵׁ֣בyo.ShevH3427at Jerichoבִּירִיח֑וֹbi.ri.ChoH3405;and he saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to them, “Did I not sayאָמַ֥רְתִּי'a.Mar.tiH559to you, ‘Do not goתֵּלֵֽכוּ׃te.Le.khuH1980’?”
19Then the menH376of the cityהָעִיר֙ha.'IrH5892saidוַיֹּ֨אמְר֜וּvai.Yo.me.RuH559to Elishaאֱלִישָׁ֔ע'e.li.Sha'H477, “Beholdהִנֵּה־hi.neh-H2009now, the situationמוֹשַׁ֤בmo.ShavH4186of this cityהָעִיר֙ha.'IrH5892is pleasantט֔וֹבTovH2896,as my lordאֲדֹנִ֖י'a.do.NiH113seesרֹאֶ֑הro.'EhH7200;but the waterוְהַמַּ֥יִםve.ha.Ma.yimH4325is badרָעִ֖יםra.'ImH7451and the landוְהָאָ֥רֶץve.ha.'A.retzH776is unfruitfulמְשַׁכָּֽלֶת׃me.sha.Ka.letH7921.”
20He saidוַיֹּ֗אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Bringקְחוּ־ke.chu-H3947me a newחֲדָשָׁ֔הcha.da.ShahH2319jarצְלֹחִ֣יתtze.lo.ChitH6746,and putוְשִׂ֥ימוּve.Si.muH7760saltמֶ֑לַחMe.lachH4417in it.” So they broughtוַיִּקְח֖וּvai.yik.ChuH3947it to him.
21He wentוַיֵּצֵא֙vai.ye.Tze'H3318out to the springמוֹצָ֣אmo.Tza'H4161of waterהַמַּ֔יִםha.Ma.yimH4325andthrewוַיַּשְׁלֶךְ־vai.yash.lekh-H7993saltמֶ֑לַחMe.lachH4417in it and saidוַיֹּ֜אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Thusכֹּֽה־koh-H3541saysאָמַ֣ר'a.MarH559the Lordיְהוָ֗הYah.wehH3068, ‘I havepurifiedרִפִּ֙אתִי֙ri.Pi.tiH7495theseהָאֵ֔לֶּהha.'E.lehH428watersלַמַּ֣יִםla.Ma.yimH4325;there shall not be from thereH8033deathמָ֥וֶתMa.vetH4194orunfruitfulnessוּמְשַׁכָּֽלֶת׃u.me.sha.Ka.letH7921anyH5750longerH5750.’”
22So the watersהַמַּ֔יִםha.Ma.yimH4325have beenpurifiedוַיֵּרָפ֣וּvai.ye.ra.FuH7495to thisהַזֶּ֑הha.ZehH2088dayהַיּ֣וֹםhai.YomH3117,according to the wordכִּדְבַ֥רkid.VarH1697of Elishaאֱלִישָׁ֖ע'e.li.Sha'H477whichאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834he spokeדִּבֵּֽר׃ פdi.BerH1696.
23Then he wentוַיַּ֥עַלvai.Ya.'alH5927up from thereמִשָּׁ֖םmi.ShamH8033to BethelH1008;and as he was goingעֹלֶ֣ה'o.LehH5927up by the wayבַדֶּ֗רֶךְva.De.rekhH1870,youngקְטַנִּים֙ke.ta.NimH6996ladsוּנְעָרִ֤יםu.ne.'a.RimH5288cameיָצְא֣וּya.tze.'UH3318out from the cityהָעִ֔ירha.'IrH5892andmockedוַיִּתְקַלְּסוּ־vai.yit.ka.le.su-H7046him and saidוַיֹּ֣אמְרוּvai.Yo.me.ruH559to him, “Goעֲלֵ֥ה'a.LehH5927up, you baldheadקֵרֵ֖חַke.Re.achH7142;goעֲלֵ֥ה'a.LehH5927up, you baldheadקֵרֵֽחַ׃ke.Re.achH7142!”
24When he lookedוַיִּ֤פֶןvai.Yi.fenH6437behindאַֽחֲרָיו֙'a.cha.RavH310him and sawוַיִּרְאֵ֔םvai.yir.'EmH7200them, hecursedוַֽיְקַלְלֵ֖םvay.ka.LemH7043them in the nameבְּשֵׁ֣םbe.ShemH8034of the Lordיְהוָ֑הYah.wehH3068.Then twoשְׁתַּ֤יִםshe.Ta.yimH8147female bearsדֻּבִּים֙du.BimH1677cameוַתֵּצֶ֨אנָהva.te.Tze.nahH3318out of the woodsהַיַּ֔עַרhai.Ya.'arH3293and toreוַתְּבַקַּ֣עְנָהva.te.va.Ka'.nahH1234up forty-twoאַרְבָּעִ֥ים וּשְׁנֵ֖י'ar.ba.'Im u.she.NeiH705H8147ladsיְלָדִֽים׃ye.la.DimH3206of their number.
25He wentוַיֵּ֥לֶךְvai.Ye.lekhH1980from thereמִשָּׁ֖םmi.ShamH8033toMountהַ֣רharH2022Carmelהַכַּרְמֶ֑לha.kar.MelH3760,and from thereוּמִשָּׁ֖םu.mi.ShamH8033he returnedשָׁ֥בshavH7725to Samariaשֹׁמְרֽוֹן׃ פsho.me.RonH8111.
