Romans 11:25
25My Christian friends, I want to help you to understand about Israel's people. It is a secret that God has shown to us. If you really understand it, you will not be proud that you are so clever. Many of Israel's people have refused to believe in Christ. They will continue to refuse him until the complete number of Gentiles have believed.

Context of Romans 11:25
23God is able to accept Israel's people back again. If they come to believe in Christ, God will put them back as part of the tree. He is able to make them become branches of the tree again. 24God cut you like branches from a wild olive tree. Then he put you into the farmer's olive tree so that you became part of it. He could do that even though that was not your own tree before. So God will be able to do that for Israel's people. He can easily put them back into their own tree, that they were part of before. My Christian friends, I want to help you to understand about Israel's people. It is a secret that God has shown to us. If you really understand it, you will not be proud that you are so clever. Many of Israel's people have refused to believe in Christ. They will continue to refuse him until the complete number of Gentiles have believed. 26When that has happened, God will save all Israel's people. This is written in the Bible: ‘The one who rescues will come from Zion. He will turn Jacob's people away from their sins. 27And I will make this agreement with them. I will forgive them for their sins.’

Commentaries on Romans 11:25
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 25I would not - that ye should be ignorant of this mystery - Mystery, , signifies any thing that is hidden or covered, or not fully made manifest. The Greek word seems to have been borrowed from the Hebrew מסתר mistar, from the root סתר sathar, to hide, conceal, etc.; though some derive it from , to be initiated into sacred rites, from , to shut up. In the New Testament it signifies, generally, any thing or doctrine that has not, in former times, been fully…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 25Ignorant of this mystery - The word “mystery” means properly what is “concealed, hidden, or unknown.” And it especially refers, in the New Testament, to the truths or doctrines which God had reserved to himself, or had not before communicated. It does not mean, as with us often, that there was anything unintelligible or inscrutible in the nature of the doctrine itself, for it was commonly perfectly plain when it was made known. Thus, the doctrine, that…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 22-32Verses 22-32 Of all judgments, spiritual judgments are the sorest; of these the apostle is here speaking. The restoration of the Jews is, in the course of things, far less improbable than the call of the Gentiles to be the children of Abraham; and though others now possess these privileges, it will not hinder their being admitted again. By rejecting the gospel, and by their indignation at its being preached to the Gentiles, the Jews were become enemies to…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 25Paul often uses the word mystery to describe an event at the end of history that God has already decided. This mystery exists in heaven and God reveals it to his people during the Christian era (see 16:25; 1 Corinthians 2:1, 7; 4:1; 15:51; Ephesians 1:9; 3:3, 4, 9; 6:19; Colossians 1:26, 27; 2:2; 4:3; 1 Timothy 3:9, 16). Here, the mystery is the relationship of Jews and Gentiles in the plan of salvation, which is central to this passage (Romans 11:11–32).Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 2525. For I would not ... that ye should be ignorant of this mystery--The word "mystery," so often used by our apostle, does not mean (as with us) something incomprehensible, but "something before kept secret, either wholly or for the most part, and now only fully disclosed" (compare Ro 16:25; 1Co 2:7-10; Ep 1:9, 10; 3:3-6, 9, 10). lest ye should be wise in your own conceits--as if ye alone were in all time coming to be the family of God. that…Read the comment
